My first run in with a stereotypical gamer.

Eightbitnate has officially been dethroned. Unshits katana is the new green lines represent noises.

I'm going to need to add unshit to my personal lexicon, alongside pisswhistle.

I've also ran into someone like this, I sit next to them in one of my programming classes. All he seems to like are stuff like zombie survival games, and the division. I know he's also into some kind of anime, going by his desktop wallpapers and annoying japanese music he plays so loud you can hear it from his earbuds. I wanna make friends here, but all the people who play games are all just... tools.

I laugh at how much I probably look like some of the more maligned stereotypes on here. I have Fedora I've worn for years though its got sentimental value so I don't really care if anyone thinks when I wear though I do think I pull it off well. Though right now I've got a man bun going on with a beard! Though I work out and I'm in shape so I guess I've got that going for me.
I know when GAFers have said they pull off a fedora well before, it hasn't worked out when pics were posted :P
We've done this in so many threads before. So many gaffers have posted their own pics saying they can pull off fedoras, only to realize they really can't. Just don't open this can of worms. let it go.

I remember my first encounter with a gamer. I was working retail, and he got (legitimately) angry at me because I pronounced Mario's name as "Meh-rio" instead of "Mah-rio". I'm sorry, friends. I was young.

He then proceeded to call me a dumbass American, even though this happened in Canada. Good times.
I'm too lazy to search, but I bet there's a thread on here with that guy complaining about the idiot in retail that didn't know how to pronounce "Mario"

And to be fair, who doesn't know how to pronounce "Mario" :P

See fedora wearers on the tube in London all the time.. Generally in a long black coat and world of warcraft t shirts. Granted they always look like happy people but fedora's always look shit.

lul NeoGAF loosers.

I, for one, enjoy regular classy evenings with gorgeous babes, restaurant quality food prepared by my mom, and Zelda Symphonic Suite (usually gets them - the girls not my mom - in the mood in 12 minutes or so). I mean, I have my limits (only wear the fedora in the bedroom, as that's what they like), but I really feel bad for some of you.

Don't hate. Elevate.

I remember having a somewhat heated argument with someone who was convinced the Dreamcast 2 was coming. In the end I just gave up and responded with "alright man" and "okay" until he left. He also thought CDi was amazing so the man clearly insane.

The thing that shocks me most is that this thread isnt closed. Is it a joke thread OP? Serious question. Despite the fact that I too loathe to come into contact with certain types of hygiene-lacking folks that epitomize one of several stereotypes (not just "gamers"), I don't see how it's ok to create a thread to anonymously bully said people. Being a nurse makes me acutely aware of people's hygiene when I am in public, so I get you and others in that respect, but bullying is never ok.

I mean if he had attacked you verbally or something I could see the discussion. And if he does truly share the views of the more negative "gamer gaters" then maybe there's a discussion there. But hygiene and choice of clothing are not points for discussion, at least not with other people to talk ABOUT the person, rather than TO them, politely.

To OP and everyone else who thinks it's ok to bully any subculture, maybe consider how you felt or would feel when/if you became the target of ridicule.

To OP: If you had created a thread bullying certain other types of people, ones less widely accepted as ok-to-bully, you probably would've been shut down instantly. Maybe next time, if you're serious here, think about what you post before creating a thread just to belittle someone. Your OP was pretty bare bones, but the whole "shut the fuck up" thing gave you away, as did your subsequent posts.

Edit: Just to be clear, I get that most of the posts here are about "obserdly" (smh) and "unshitting katana", but there are plenty of unbelievably inappropriate posts as well.

Agreed, good post.

I knew a kid like that in high school.

Whatever was the current GameFAQs/NeoGAF/internet gaming meme...
He'd just keep parroting them loudly in real life and acting like everybody was just an in-person message board user.

Just imagine a high school kid who's constantly saying things like "8 out of 8? FLOP!"

He was *also* a huge anime moe kawaii waifu otaku.

There are people like that in a linkshell I'm in (FFXIV) nothing but memes...

To be fair, late teen/early 20 something me was everything described minus the fedora. Even I want to punch myself in the face for acting like a obnoxious fanboy gamer in those days.

Oh I'm not saying I'm looking like a model wearing it or anything but I've had it for years, like nearly a decade and its actually starting to fall apart at this point and I think I wear it well enough. I'd take a picture but I can barely wear it I've got so much hair at this point.

I know one who is also a walking stereotype but of a different kind.
He buys FIFA and AC every single year, spends a metric ton of money on Fifa's microtransactions, only buys the games with the biggest marketing campaigns though he's aware of more niche stuff that he admits looks interesting but never gets around to trying.
His favorite game will forever be FF7 and nothing will ever touch that game's story.
He's been gaming more and more on his phone and thinks it's awesome.
PC's are too complicated and not really for gaming.

That feel when you try to use your Heelys to escape your feelies.
You can run but you can't hide.

yooo heely's used to be the shit 11-12 years ago! I remember we had this one kid in school who was the only one having a pair and I swear to you he could have had all the girls in our school. Heelys were what seperated the boys from the men back then.

WOW, first of all he's not even leaning forward enough to reduce air resistance. This is an actual running technique used by ninja for hundreds of years that requires years of training just because you need the posture and balance exactly right, smh you don't just throw your arms out behind you and run.

Acceptable reasons to wear a hat in 2016:

1. You work outdoors and need shade from the sun.
2. It's cold, and you need to cover your head and ears.
3. You're at a sporting event.
4. You're an actual cowboy.

That's it.

or if you feel like wearing a hat. sorry, hitler

The thing you have to realize here is that, by ignoring the very sound fashion advice in this thread, you're the only one who has anything to lose. So while it's totally your prerogative to wear a hat if you don't fall into any of those categories, is that something you really want to do?

i dont wear a hat
but to condemn all hats in the face of one is pretty silly

Good post, sadly it will get overlooked.

Took my girlfriend to see Deadpool, she asked "What's that smell?" as we walked in to take our seat. I said
"Comic book fans and gamers"

Sometimes the stereotype is a stereotype for a reason.

Hat's just don't work at the moment. While the trilby/fedora meme hat is often the most discussed on GAF, that doesn't mean that other hats aren't equally terrible.

For example, but not limited to:

  • Boat hats
  • Straw hats
  • Straw boat hats
  • Dad hats, unless you're attractive and own too many designer streetwear pieces
  • Trucker hats

I'd continue the list, but then I realize that it really is just 99% of existing hat styles right now. You can totally wear a watch cap if it's super cold and paired with a peacoat I guess?

One of the reasons why small video game brick and mortar shops are terrible. The air is moist and disturbing.

You straw-hat hating sumbitch! How dare you! :{{{

(what about ski-masks?)

Lose what exactly? Serious question.

If the guy likes to wear a hat, if anyone stands to lose anything, is the person who has a problem with it.

perharps I'm being baited, cuz this can't be serious
