My first run in with a stereotypical gamer.

I've had an encounter with a gentleman wearing a fedora. He was nice enough. At least he liked Zelda.

To be fair I really don't give a shit about what people wear. This thread is still fucking killing me however. Oh, and sue me for wearing a red Sox cap!! It was windy!

Lose what exactly? Serious question.

If the guy likes to wear a hat, if anyone stands to lose anything, is the person who has a problem with it.

perharps I'm being baited, cuz this can't be serious

However disagreeable it may be, society bases a lot of it's first impression (read: almost all) on appearance. Is that a good thing? Probably not. I'm not arguing that. All I'm saying is that I recognize that our world does indeed function this way, and you probably don't want to walk around projecting "I like bad hats and graphic tees!" as a professional adult.

If someone wants to wear a hat, that's totally fine. I'm not going to say anything to them, it's not offensive or "wrong". But they probably shouldn't wear it to a job interview, and people inevitably are going to perceive you differently.

TL;DR the world is super shallow and that's not going to change. Also, hats aren't aesthetically pleasing.

So the person who wears the hat loses nothing but the company of shallow people?

I think I'm gonna start wearing hats from now on :P

Everyone on earth is shallow and petty, some people are just self-aware enough to be okay with it.

*judges you*

GAFashion Police is getting rediculous.

Hot tip: Wear whatever makes you feel good. Nobody cares what you're wearing. And if they do, congratulations, you just filtered an asshole out of your life.

Corgis can pull any look off.
You lucky dog, you.

It's a gift and a curse.

hahaha. damn you all. there's too many quotable posts in this thread already. just know that Wednesday has never been the same. *unshits marker to mark 'X' on calendar

I've actually had a run in with the people you think are trolling on GAF or just talk in insane hyperbole. We were talking about Bloodborne and he was seriously offended I played games on PS4 because of lower framerates and that kind of shit. Guy turned into a full on unhinged psycho that night who threatened to kill us in the woods. I'd be afraid to run into most internet nerds in real life after that.

The birth of new memes is the only thing keeping this thing alive isn't it?

Since we've moved on to fashion, what's up with grown men having their feet out in public all the time? Rain or shine, 30-90 degrees, it doesn't matter, sandals. We're 300 miles from the beach, guy.

My goodness. What trick weapon did he have?

I went to a relatively "nerdy" college (RIT, I'm sure there are others here) and that's the only place so far I've really seen this stereotype proliferated. But it's definitely real.

*snip*

Lol fashiongaf out in full force on this thread I see.

I think I'm gonna start rocking a top hat from now on. Gotta start working on that curly mustache first though.

The thing is literally every person that has vision does this. Clothing and appearance choices are one of the biggest signifiers about ourselves that we present to the world. We won't be getting around that in our lifetimes, or perhaps ever.

I don't think I'm shallow or petty :P. I legitimately don't care what people wear or how they present themselves, and yes I have asked myself this question and deeply thought about it, and I can't think of an instance where I subconsciously judged someone for what they were wearing.

Hmmm....

:P

It's not a big deal, if you want to believe you aren't influenced by initial appearance then don't let a bitter fuck on the internet stop you.

Have you ever been at a store and identified an employee based on a uniform?

Actually scratch that, I'm buying myself a kentucky derby hat. Chicks be flocking to me in droves. It needs a thorny rose on top for when I need to put it in my mouth and start speaking spanish.

Real talk though, what's the name of the kind of hat GRRMartin wears? I gotta know for when I get old and start balding and can pull off pretty much anything since people won't give a shit.

All right then, but you should understand you are in an extremely small minority of people.

I don't go to stores much, I identify employees by whether they're working behind the counter or not.

Oh, well see often at larger stores people will have a question and seek out someone that works for the store to answer it. Often this involved looking for someone in the store's uniform, in fact it's one of the reasons uniforms exist.

There's always a curve with extremely rare cases on either end.

Thing is it seems everyone I interact with on the internet is extremely rare and special.

Is this Fedora thing a US thang?, don't think I've ever seen anyone wearing one in the UK, a Bowler or Stovepipe hat maybe, but never a Fedora.

Buddhist monks? Your next door neighbour? The guy just off his psych meds? Me?

You must reincarnation of L.Ron Hubbard to have such confidence in you apprehension of ultimate reality.

A little critical thought and self understanding as well as exposure to a variety of people is the cure, BTW.

And like I said, if a person is shallow enough to let a hat be such a strong accessory :D, enough to become some sort of barrier between them and other people, I think that a hat keeping a shallow person from wanting to socialize with a hat wearing one is not a bad thing.
