Transparency for something that may or may not happen at some undefined point in the future.
Right...
Oh I'm sorry did sony release a statement about the new ps4k? Oh right they haven't,,,,, I guess the ps4k still may not happen.

Yea the concept of transparency with your consumers is crazy huh?
This Is just the expected slim with a.boost in specs so if you don't buy slims nothings.changed it's literally only.a.positive imoSo what's the difference with PC gaming then?
I bought a PS4 two years ago before the CAD tanked, Now if I upgrade to the "Neo" it will mean I'll have spent as much money as my gaming PC. This is just stupid. There's just no advantage anymore to owning consoles. Playing with controllers? PC has it. Better prices? PC. Refunds? PC. Games running @ 60FPS? PC (most of the time). It's just ridiculous. And I'm not even talking about late ports and stuff from consoles.
Wake me up from this nightmare.
honestly with this bump I doubt we're gonna suddenly see 60fps for everything. I'm expecting this to mainly be worth it if you have a 4K tv
This is literally the dumbest defense for this situation. The experience will be of inferiority. Within the same generation, this is a slap in the face to early adopters. It's that simple.
But this is a lesson for people like me. Don't buy the next Sony console within the first couple years. Wait it out and a superior version will come along.
The belittling of those who think this is a slap in the face in this tread is actually absurd. I don't know if it's fanboyism or what but the defending going on here is pretty sad.
That's when you know how bad it is lol.
Then don't buy the upgrade? Or just buy a PC? "Nightmare". Jesus people.
Only OG PS4 players will get the true Team Ico experience when they play The Last Guardian at 20fps.
You know something special just happened. WOW that is not a name I expected to see in here
Pretty sure you're getting the complete Sony experience with the original PS4. When the PS4K hits $299 in 2-3 years, think about upgrading then. Or wait for the PS5. You're not getting tricked.Guess I was wrong assuming that console manufacturers would follow past practices! Im not hating man, Im just kinda disappointed. I thought I was getting the complete sony gamming experience with the original PS4.
Fortunately for you, me, and everyone else who doesn't want to upgrade, you don't have to buy a new system.
It is not logical. It's not but it is logical. The only GPU AMD has that was designed for the 14nm finfet process they are using is Polaris / Vega. The only one we know has working silicon is Polaris. Re-designing Tonga or Hawaii for the 14nm finfet node would be very expensive so why bother when an architecturaly improved GPU has already been designed, built and tested on that node. Polaris is the cheaper way to go and you get improvements too.
It also suits AMD to have devs targeting their latest hardware in the PC space for their fight against Pascal so maybe they are offering a relatively low price for it.
I can't help keeping up with the JonesesOne of the few people that stepped out of line when the crazy pills were being handed out.
Nobody HAS to buy this. I don't understand the outrage.
I'll be curious to see which versions of upcoming games Sony uses to market them. Will we see Horizon and The Last Guardian running on OG PS4 at events with lower frame rate and visuals, or will we see the NEO versions and the game running at optimum performance? People bitch when a game is running on PC and gets downgraded at release, so will we see similar outrage when God of War 4 is demonstrated on PS4k and then we get our first-look at GoW PS4 and it is downgraded...
And your source is?
If they are adopting jaguar for compatibility purposes, then they are not going to be using an unproven tech like polaris either. They will stick with Sea islands and use the 16nm finfet silicon to their best abilities.
Always on point.

Pretty much. The people freaking out when everything is demoed on PS4 Neo units should be a fun read as well.
Expect all demos and videos to be showing NEO versions unless outright stated. Similarly to how nearly all multi platform titles are advertised with the PC version
They are still using Jaguar CPU cores. Those don't even have PC equivalents at 14nm finfet. It's not but it is logical. It is worth noting how Sony has shown no updated content for Horizon, Dreams, etc. And also announced nothing else for Q4 this year. Their 1st party studio's likely have been working on launch versions for PS4.5 for a while and will have a blow out at E3.
Exciting times ahead
GiantBomb said:Additionally, games released in the late September window will require a day one patch that updates them to NEO standards.
Polaris will add incompatibility. The only improved cpu from Amd in that space is puma and it is 100% the same architecture. The difference is design and layout to reduce leakage and enable higher clock speeds at the same power consumption. They call it jaguar but if they are re-designing it for 14nm then I guarantee it will have the improvements to leakage puma had.
I bet it is Polaris, simply because it makes no sense to design and build an older GPU tech at 14nm when there is already one available that is a superset of what you currently have. That is to say it does everything GCN 1.1 does and more.
Feel bad for all of you that stick with consoles period.
Really PSPoor ? Thats the best one huh? lol
I don't really see how the 'I could have waited X amount of time and gotten a console X amount better' argument holds up, because that can be said about literally any consumer electronic. It's not the fault of the manufacturer that some consumers buy a few years in, they are going to do what makes financial and strategic sense. Believe me, I'm going to feel pretty burned too if the rumors are true, but you can't deny that there's no possible way for Sony to please its entire audience.
And fortunately I never have to buy a Sony gaming device again, if I don't want to. That will show them.
Wait, would this make me part of the Master Console Race? I might be back in.
Um what?!?! What's the problem with wanting this and not being interested in PC gaming?
I'm also very curious to see the design of this NEO PS4.
because my og ps1/ps2/ps3 still play games as well as the later models? Yes electronics like phones or pc parts get yearly updates. And if sony releases a ps4.75 then i wont be saying anything because they've clearly decided to follow a model they set forth with the ps4.5. To say that I should have seen this coming because other electronics do it though isn't exactly a valid argument. After all I'm following the rules the industry itself made standard. Yes I can keep my ps4 and still play games but honestly I'd rather get the most money out of it now and wait to see what happens and possibly pick up a ps4kv1/2/3? in the future for a chance to also play 4k blu rays.

like I said a few pages back, I hope it's very similar to the PSPoor so my wife won't notice when I buy one

What if the PS5 will be able to play PS4 games in Neo mode? How many people will hold out and see?

No, what you're saying doesn't make sense. If they didn't care about compatibility they'd at least go for Puma cores on the CPU side (even there they'd have to make a custom 14nm design).
This is a "custom" design. They are probably using 14nm,but the fact that Polaris is at 14nm also doesn't make that likely.
I mean, I could understand if this really was them trying to push towards a phone-esque model, where you are basically releasing a completely new model of PS4 every year, and banking people upgrading every couple of years and leaving prior models obsolete, but that doesn't appear to be what is happening here. The PS4 is still the PS4 and I think Sony wants to keep it that way. This is probably less about existing users upgrading (though I'm sure a portion of the base will) and more about keeping the platform attractive and relevant for new buyers as the years go buy. I just bought a HORI fight stick. It has better buttons than the model released last year. Is that a "slap in the face' to people that bought that fight stick? Or is that just how a majority of consumer products work nowadays? TV models get refreshed with better features every year. Some people just need to be dragged kicking and screaming towards any sort of change though.
It is not Polaris.
It is Jaguar cores with enhanced GCN... I believe it will use 1.2 CUs instead 1.1 used in PS4.
Makes no sense to change the arch in PS4k.
And direct comparison with AMD cards are reasonable.
So that's why FFXV is releasing on September 30th.
PSPoor? That's a thing or is this new?
There's always new thing. Nearly every other industry subscribes to yearly new thing x. If anything, people should be happy that this is a mid-generation new thing, that does not make old thing obsolete.
I don't think consoles would work very well with a yearly upgrade the way phones do, so I wouldn't think it's warranted to get worked up over something like that. The way development cycles on console games work, versus how apps/mobile games are developed, are completely different. Flappy Bird wasn't pushing your iPhone to the theoretical limit, and therefore a new iteration won't send future development into a tailspin (even assuming the development on something like that took long enough to outlive a phone cycle.
This is a mid-generation (relatively) incremental upgrade that will likely have no major impact on people on either side of the fence. I don't see this being a yearly thing (or even bi-yearly) so I don't see any problem with it.
In short, I agree with you.
To be fair I don't believe PS4k will use Polaris.
I guess Sony/AMD will use the same APU's arch used in PS4 with increased CUs and clock using 14nm.
Something like..,
APU 14nm
8 Jaguar cores @ 1.8Ghz
32 CUs @ 900Mhz
That will up actual PS4 performance from 1.84TF to 3.68TF.
That exactly twice power... I guess that will be a combination of CU/clock near this config I posted... maybe 30CUs @ 1Ghz.
