Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins (Animated Short to Premiere 4/20)

Ok, yeah, now I want a Star Fox anime.

An anime, a line of toys and merchandise, and a game to go with it all could work really well for Nintendo if they did it right. Like, it was cool to watch that short and then watch gameplay of the same thing. Kids would dig that.

That was rad. Mike West and Lyssa Browne really stepped up their game as Fox and Slippy (that was them, right?).

Anyone else catch the Star Fox Super Weekend reference?

Yeah, count me in among those who want a full animated series out of this. I'm not even a big Star Fox fan but this was amazing. Laughed out loud a couple times ("Nothing weird there", Slippy getting blasted right after he got cocky, chuckled at Pepper's hiding spot), and all in all the cast was likable and I was left wanting more. More episodes please!

Also, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who asked what freaking console Falco was playing that let him play the original Star Fox, 'cause it certainly wasn't a SNES. The game finally arriving to the NX VC confirmed?

I wonder if they are going to keep this new style for the next Smash Bros, I kind of dig the more Muppet-y style Zero and this anime short has.

I enjoyed that. Worst bit was Fox's whiskers. I dunno why but they annoyed me, made it look like he had a shitty moustache. I get he's a fox and all, but why does he have shitty whiskers but Peppy doesn't?

Liked it more than I thought I would.

The flight animation was a particular joy when the missiles were trailing Falco. Nothing breath-taking, but far better than I'd expected for a video-game promo tie-in thing.

I enjoyed the writing and comedy aspects too. Not all the delivery was there, but it was packed with little references and gags so when one joke missed there was always something to look out for in the next shot. The entering Arwing sequence was great, with Fox doing his Melee somersault and Slippy doing the fake miss.

Not sure how well it would fill out into a whole series. I'm sure a few more shorts would be fine, but they'd have to start recycling material pretty quickly or bring in original stuff unrelated to the series to keep the jokes coming as thick and fast as they were here.

Also, Nintendo have perfected Google-glass for NX confirmed.

So, I'm guessing this cost like a bajillion yen to make, right? Because this short was super high quality.

I really, really want this to be an actual animated series. Or a movie. I just want MORE.

A simple 13 part OVA would be fine imo. They could keep the quality and high budget that way.

Yes, that sounds heavenly.

Holy shit, that short is good. Just watched it again.

Nintendo, you have a theme park coming, start promoting your IP with more stuff like this.

Need a 13-episode Star Fox OVA of this caliber NOW.

The best thing about this (and the game itself) are the character designs. They really nailed them.

So much better than those abominations used in Commmand.

I think it's true when folks say that the short format works for Nintendo properties. If they're committed to getting these out, I'd say that an anthology for various series would be ideal, though they haven't really dipped into Mario or Zelda. Unfortunately, unless it's a movie it'll hard to make much money off of shorts, which is why this one was mostly cross-promotional.

That was awesome!

Loved all the little references like the "Good Luck," and Sauria of course.

Now I desperately want more.

The visual style is perfect. The animation is fluid and detailed. The character expressions and dogfighting are fantastic.

Man, we need more. Imagine a Star Wolf fight animated this way!

I don't think Mario or Zelda, despite being big dogs, are the best for this type of work. I believe more plot driven series would benefit far more, like Fire Emblem or Xenoblade (especially X, imo) and result in much more interesting shows.
Who doesn't want a whole series akin to Xenoblade X's Chapter 9?

Watching the beginning as I missed it live earlier. Fox's monologue gave me Arrow/Flash/Supergirl/*insert other TV show here* vibes. And I like it!

"My name is Fox McCloud. Five years ago my father passed away protecting the elite squadron that he founded. Now, I've brought his team out of retirement, recruiting the best team mates a squad leader could ask for, to carry on his legacy. We are Star Fox!"

I wish to see more of this. Do it, Nintendo.

Yep. I'd also like them to get the series on more than their YouTube channel too. They could partner with Crunchyroll and get it on there to raise more awareness of their IPs.

Did anyone else want to touch Slippy

I don't mean it in a creepy way, I mean he looks so smooth and solid, like a beach ball

The Pikmin shorts were great and so is this. You know what you need to do Nintendo, lets make better use of that Nintendo Anime channel you have!
