It means the planet still exists in some shape or form (not unlike how other familiar named planets show up in different forms from the original game to 64). But not much else.
Unless I'm mistaken, Zero is still meant to be the start of a new continuity.

You guys should read that Nintendo universe timeline, everything is connected.
The short was really amazing. Nintendo needs to make a series, the franchise has the potential for that and if it's well done like this short was (no reason to assume it wouldn't be, I.G is awesome), it could also turn into a great way to advertise the series. Star Fox One on the NX would benefit immensely from something like this.
