Grasshopper Manufacture remaking The Silver Case for PC in Unity 5

I am relieved on many many levels. That game would have been hell to translate.

I can only imagine. Those puzzles would have been tough to deal with for translating into English, eh?

Huh, well this is very unexpected. Isn't this game meant to follow on from Twilight Syndrome (that game referenced in Danganronpa 2) and then leads into Killer7 or something like that?

Twilight Syndrome is its own series, which was Suda's directorial debut (he made those at Human Entertainment) and Moonlight Syndrome established the themes of the "Kill The Past" series after he made that he left Human and formed Grasshopper Manufacture with other former members of Human Entertainment then made The Silver Case which carries on the themes of Moonlight Syndrome then made Flower, Sun & Rain which is a sequel to The Silver Case and also made a direct sequel for mobile called The Silver Case: Ward 25.

killer7 carries on the same themes established in earlier games and references those games in certain ways (Edo McAllister the Hotel Manager from FS&R makes a cameo appearance, for example). Kill The Past is more of a series of themes than a series with direct ties, it's more loose then that. Things like the art and music (the whole aesthetics side of these games) definitely carries over. As does the crazy, fucked up storylines which emphasise the psychological and weird characters. Suda is one crazy messed up bastard, must be said, these games are dark.
 
Don't bring up Twilight Syndrome. ;3; As a horror enthusiast the fact none of the games have an English translation (except for a half-finished fan translations for Moonlight Syndrome) always bums me out, and it seems most people have never heard of the series despite it being Suda51's first original series and having several games spanning two decades now.
 
^Wonder how they will translate those elements over in the remake? Sounds like they're going to be retaining most of the elements of the original, including the wonderful artwork. Who is the mega fan from Playismto make this a reality? How did this even happen? Suda has been wanting to release The Silver Case for years now, even fecking XSEED didn't want to touch the localization of the game and release it after FS&R's poor sales. Think for that for a moment...XSEED refused to do it. Never thought we would ever get a full remake out of this, always though Suda would just a mobile port and that would be it. We are in the best possible outcome here.

I wish you luck translating Moonlight Syndrome, I picked up all the Twilight Syndrome games when I was collecting horror games a few years ago in hopes one day they'll be translated. One translated is better than none, and Moonlight Syndrome judging from trailers/opening is the one that looks the downright strange and most stylistic. Know translation is no easy process, and is an effort of love in the end and no one has to do it, but can stay hopeful. I would like to play the games, but they're text and story heavy obviously and not knowing a lick of Japanese makes me at least reliant on that possibility. But the series has always been so curious to me, both as a fan of J-Horror and Suda51.

On that note though, I am incredibly happy again that Silver Case is being translated. That would be another case of a game I've hoped would be translated by Suda51 at some point, and the unfinished remake was disappointing, so happy to see the whole project resurface, and at that, likely for a PC platform (my platform of choice). Will pick it up day 1 when it see's the light of day.

I'd advise avoiding the thread on TSC if you want a pure experience though, I went nuts near the end with posting screens of the endgame. I'm being selective here.

It can't be understated how MASSIVE a project this must be for the team. I hope they keep it as intact as possible.
 
It's a remake, he's likely just supervising.

He's going to be VERY involved. TSC is extremely near and dear to him, possibly the most important. It was GHM's first title. I believe he oversaw FSR's localization too.

There is no way this will be done without his approval and considerable involvement.

This is amazing news, I hope this means we might get localisations of Suda51's other Japan only titles. Though, I bet that the Twilight/Moonlight Struggle rights are sadly with a another company.

They are. They're in licensing hell, and not even acknowledged on the GHM site.

Thankfully the ties to The Silver Case are easily explained(and there are most certainly ties, but only in the prologue.)

I'll be sure to explain it when it releases, think kind of like Ciel no Surge's background.
 
As a Suda 51 fan, and as a FSR fan in particular, I'm so excited to actually understand what's going on in this game because it seems like the central lynchpin to all of Suda's batshit insanity.

It's easily the most insane thing he's ever done. I couldn't believe some of the stuff in the game. Killer7 comes close, and is similar in a lot of ways... but it doesn't touch TSC.

I'll be blunt: TSC is often very difficult and can be extremely tedious, but boy is it worth it. And it's not as bad as FSR, thankfully. The puzzles are a lot more fun, and varied.
 
While they're at it, they should get more of their back catalogue out on PC, say, K7, Shadows of the Damned, NMH 1 and 2. But what I really hope is that this somehow sparks Suda's creativity again, I want more weird shit with him directing. Dude is pretty much the David Lynch of videogames. I also demand Suda/Swery collab.

I think everyone would agree that stuff like this is far more pressing, which makes it all the more shocking they're starting with an unlocalized 17 year old game.

You explore an apartment building and have to talk to EVERY. SINGLE. TENANT twice, and the finale involves exploring a massive tower looking for eight key points.

The very abridged version? This is part of the Kill The Past Trilogy, continued in Flower Sun & Rain and concluded in Killer7. A group of detectives are on the trail of a killer named Kamui Uehara, and are out to stop his reign of terror... but, isn't he already dead?

I already own two PS1 copies, and was literally about to buy it again on PSN yesterday.

I wonder how well this will do. On one hand, it's a perfect fit for PC. On the other... this is an extremely wordy, obtuse, and confusing game.
 
Not to mention if they even still have the original, uncompressed footage lying around. I really hope all the live action/animated sequences remain in the remake. :S

Well, having seen the game's files, at very least they should be able to upscale or restore the footage somehow. The live action stuff is integral to the game, though. I can't imagine them doing the game without it. I assume they already planned around all this.

I'd be willing to bet that the live action parts were done on video, and that the animated scenes probably don't have any original film elements to do a restoration from. An upscale would have to do for this.

To be honest, I'm hoping that they remake it as close to the original as possible, so I wouldn't mind upscaled footage.

Here's hoping! Your screenshots have been really cool to admire. I remember that one shot, where somebody's mentioning July 3rd (which is my birthday :P). killer7 also had an important event on July 3rd, too. I wonder if the two are related?

There's a very good guide online that I used to finish it, but you'll miss out on nearly ever major story beat. A LOT is conveyed only through text apart from the major WTF moments.
