I'm guessing it isn't. Excitebots tanked in sales. My guess is it's Wave Race or F-Zero.

Excellent. EXCELLENT.

Excitebots had some of the worst marketing from Nintendo I've ever seen. IIRC the game was literally announced like a month before release. Didn't Excite Truck sell well? Also GX didn't sell well, I know it was a long time ago but still.

Excitebots didn't tank, it was deliberately sent to die, most likely so as to not compete with mkwii, i'm amazed they even bothered releasing it at all but I'm guessing they'd probably already printed up all the boxes or something

This is completely false.

Agreed about the marketing. Excite Truck sold ok but it was one of very few launch titles if I'm not mistaken.

Mario Kart Wii launched a year earlier. I doubt that had anything to do with it.

And that is kinda my point, no one could have imagined MKWii to still be selling like it was a whole year later, while I'm sure they would have still been expecting continued sales it was still selling more like a new release, they probably thought it was more worth it to push excitebots out of the way and put all the effort in to continuing to push Mario kart

If that had been the plan, they could have easily shelved ExciteBots until MK's sales slowed down. Nintendo does this often.

I don't believe MK had anything to do with Nintendo's lack of any real push for ExciteBots. They probably just weren't confident in the game's market potential.

A limited US only release, announced only a few weeks before with pretty much no marketing, how is that not being deliberately sent to die

I was referring to first-party games.

Oh, okay. How many first-party titles do you expect/hope Nintendo will launch NX with? Personally, I think three is a good number if the first year has a steady stream of titles or two if they're instant classics.

If we're counting Wii U ports, I'd say 5. I expect the port of Smash will be ready, along with Zelda, Pikmin 4, and 2 games we haven't heard confirmed in development before.

That probably would have been a better decision although Nintendo during that gen made a lot of very questionable decisions regarding smaller titles and MK's sales didn't really ever slow down anyway

I don't think it's an Excite game.

You guys remember there was a rumor that Monster Games was working on a Diddy Kong Racing 2 game? I think it was about a year or two ago.

I feel like it could be F-Zero or Diddy Kong Racing 2.

(Still) Eagerly awaiting Nintendo news. I'm still hoping the rumored Smash NX is no mere port, but adds some of the 3DS features or maybe even some new characters. Also Pikmin 4 and Zelda NX.

I would be perfectly okay with either of those.

I wonder if that Diddy Kong Racing 2 rumor will finally come to pass. That's been around for fucking ever. Maybe collaborating with Retro like they did for Tropical Freeze since I can't imagine Monster has the staff for an HD game by themselves.

I put this in the other topic

Lets put the evidence together! Retro Studios worked on a racing game in Mario Kart 7. Retro Studios worked on DKCR and DKCTF. Monster games works on Excite series which are racing games. Monster games helped work on DKTF.

Retro and Monster games likes to work together and they each are rumored to be working on Diddy Kong Racing 2. The evidence shows they both have some expertise in "racing" and "DK" now. Retro + Monster Games = DK + Racing = Diddy Kong Racing 2 :D

My only worry is I hope Retro is helping with this game and not fully on this game with all their manning. I want Retro to help make this game, but also have a big game they're working on also for the NX.

I won't argue with that math.

Possibly because a modern gen Diddy Kong Racing would be sweet. Something not Mario Kart (although I love Mario Kart, we need something new). As much as I'd like to see a modern, HD F-Zero, DKR would be a close second.

Guys, the biggest evidence towards DKR2...

Was that the rumors started in Nov/Dec 2012, months before DKCR3D was even unveiled.

How the HELL do you make up Monster working on DKR2, only for them to in fact work on the DK IP in another way out of nowhere? Monster never worked on DK or any sort of mascot game prior.

That's NO coincidence.

I really wanted to like the excite games but they were the only instances were forced motion controls put me off. (I never had any problems with Skyward Sword or any other Wii or Wii U game).

Edit. I wonder if DKR2 becomes a reality, Fox will star on the game.

The motion controls (especially the tilt in truck) was/is excellent and definitely superior to analog.

Iirc, there was a rumour... Somewhere that monster had a nearly complete wii u title when they were shifted to 3ds. This launch window nx title would likely be whatever that was, and whether the 2012 rumour was true is something we will find out about sooner than later.

But Monster Games has shipped multiple games since then and is a very small studio. If they were ever working on DKR2, the project is surely dead by now.

Monster Games works under Kensuke Tanabe. Donkey Kong Country is a Kensuke Tanabe IP. It really wasn't a far-fetched happening.

If anything, it'd be the Pokémon Amiibo that would get screwed out of such a game.

Pokemon Kart, I can get behind.

Aren't Pokemon Rumble figures basically Pokemon Amiibos? If they ever do make Pokemon Amiibos, I doubt they'd get much use in any other games due to TPC.

Those are NFC figures, but they are distinct from amiibos. Amiibos seem to have a specific API they have to implement, which the Pokémon Rumble figures pre-date.

This topic has exploded in posts tonight. Tired face emoji. Too tired to find it. Did anything happen besides the Monster Games possible leak? Grazie. Goodnight all, I'm going to bed with sweet dreams of NX and a week of big news....

It was basically just the Monster games thing.

I just want the NX to be revealed, already! I'm so psyched for it.

You say 'the' NX but won't they need to reveal two pieces of hardware :-p In my head I see myself buying a game console this Winter, but if the handheld is released the same day, I probably won't resist, and I'd get both.

Oh boy, now that would just be encouraging the folks at DK Vine, the same people who seem to think that Star Fox (Adventures, Assault and Command at least) is apart of the Donkey Kong canon because of Tricky lol.

I had no idea this was a thing. It only made sense because they have to put other anthropomorphic animals now that Banjo and Conker aren't an option.

yeah, this is likely not happening.

Maybe even 3 pieces of hardware? I could totally see them doing an "NX mini" that's lower power and cheap ($100-$200) to run portable-level NX games and use as a media center. They could target this to the casual crowd that mostly just wants to watch Netflix and play Wii sports or whatever.

That will probably happen later, but announcing so many different versions at once is not a good idea.

All I can think about is NX. lol

We're one day closer to NX news! There's never been such a buildup to console information before...

Wii U/Project Café says hello. Seriously, I swore to never get hyped again for a Nintendo console before its official unveiling.

Most information about the system was leaked several months before they unveiled the console by an Ubisoft employee. Although yeah, I'm not getting hyped for any system until it's been unveiled.

Five 1st party ports at launch? lool like Nintendo is going to give themselves a long ass drought.

I could definitely see 5 ports or even more, if you include 3rd party. I don't think Pikmin at launch is gonna happen, even if its "almost done." Just too many 1st party "AAA" games. I could def see smash and zelda at launch.

That line about form factors increasing gave me trouble fathoming what that would look like; I personally thought it'd mean something like, a typical handheld, then maybe a tablet-like portable. But what that means to having multiple form factors for a console, I never thought about that. What I'm most interested to find out is if the handheld and console both have separate "gimmicks" or if they will share it together.

yeah, this is likely not happening.

Sure, the handheld and console probably won't release at the same time, but so much recent speculation was spent on the computing abilities of the console that I tended to forget that a handheld also needs to be revealed, if not along with the console, then maybe later on :-p

We never went a year and two months of no info for the Wii U as far as I remember.

I love my Wii U and my hype for it was justified. I got the games I wanted from it.
