Much appreciated everyone who has made recommendations. Can I also ask if there are any Switch Shmup sites/ YT channels you recommend that keep up to date with new Shmup releases? Thx.
Through Electric Underground one can find loads of other shmup channels though. He has good recommendations on his page. That's a hard one because it's so damn niche. I'd love to know too if there are sites around releases/ports.
As far as YouTube, there are 3 or 4 main Shmup channels, but they don't really focus on supplying a comprehensive list of releases or anything.
The Electric Underground is one of the more prominent ones, though he also talks about action games in general.
You could try send Yuzo Koshiro a tweet about it. Afaik, he tends to tweet back. Maybe he can set up some way to buy a copy of the rom.Legal way to get the rom?
I sent Ancient/Yuzo an email last night asking if they had a PayPal or something. If they get back to me I'll let you know.Legal way to get the rom?

Thanks for linking this. I sleep on curators.![]()
Steam Curator: Shoot 'em up Database
Short and functional descriptions of shmup STG arcade games.store.steampowered.com
This curator covers pretty much every shmup that gets released on Steam. Lots of niche stuff on there I never would've heard of otherwise.
And is really a Genesis game. The Steam version is an emulator wrap. With the best CRT filter ever made btw.
Yes.Schump good or bad?
Looks like R-type, I do like the shield mechanic.
This is why they aren't rushing to get the cartridge out, because once it's gone it's gone, so they have to make sure they capture similar issues like above between now and the (miracle?) 2026 release (apparently)

Yeah it kicks your ass. It gets more forgiving though if you upgrade your main + shield with the pods.Normal difficult without upgrades is hard. A lot of people finish the easy mode and use the password to start the normal run with more shields etc.
Support Yuzo and his crew! Please guys, BUY this game if you want to play it!
I see a lot of these comments are asking about the ROM, wanting to play on real hardware, etc.
Buy the game, extract the rom yourself and slap it in a flash cart. This way you are directly supporting the devs, cutting the crooks over at LRG out of the loop, and you get to play on real hardware AT LEAST a year before LRG gets around to it.
Please don't just pirate it.
I agree. This game is not made by Limited Run but the company that made Streets of Rage 2 and 3.Support Yuzo and his crew!
You get what you paid for, no half-baked gaming here, which is the norm for the past 4-5 years...and no pay us more money if you want extra ships etc...I have supported. And they'll get my money very easy. More than ubisoft or equal shait
Because this game is really fresh in today's gaming universe. No online mandatory. I can put it on a real card. And no pay to win.
Just gameplay!
Step back from that GAAS!
Why not 1cc it at easy first? It will help you memorize the patterns and serve as practice for a normal run. This is becoming my fav schmup of all time.....damn it's so good. So hard too. Trying to keep it at normal....
Do you own a PC?Much appreciated everyone who has made recommendations. Can I also ask if there are any Switch Shmup sites/ YT channels you recommend that keep up to date with new Shmup releases? Thx.
I think they'll port Zero Ranger to consoles after they release the third campaign.Do you own a PC?
If so, i would recommend ZeroRanger, Void Stranger is also pretty good and from the same developer...though it's a puzzle game about pushing blocks, but about the best in that genre...oddly enough, the game about two ships that transform into robots that defeat armies by itself and the block pushing game are canon to each other and the same setting, one duo just has a wildly more action adventure.
Sadly, despite the games selling well, being reviewed pretty well, and being quite popular, ZeroRanger is typically recommended for anyone wanting a new shmup...the developer just doesn't seem interested in porting the game to consoles, if at this point ZeroRanger isn't on Switch, it likely will never come, but i still think it's worth trying.
Playing through them now. They are fun! Also they kinda end up sneakily teaching you about more advanced mechanics or how to play more efficiently.Don't skip the challenge stages. Very fun.
Rather not spoil the levels though for the first time - we'll see.Why not 1cc it at easy first? It will help you memorize the patterns and serve as practice for a normal run.
I think we enjoy shmups in a different way as I don't see it as spoiling the levels. I'm glad you are enjoying the game though!Rather not spoil the levels though for the first time - we'll see.
I haven't focused on how the damage works yet. I've just tried to take as small amount of hits as possible. I almost always use both weapons. Only with specific weapons I aim separately.btw - the downside of always using the second weapon is if your hit while using it you take massive damage to it right? I tried not using it and it still takes a good amount of damage so trying to figure out if the better move is to just always use both.
There are so many cool shmups. It is such a vast genre with a long history. Also - it's forced me to revisit this genre as I forgot how much I love it. Bought raiden games yesterday and some others. Loving it.
Awesome! I need to get back to this and do a normal run. After playing a while on normal difficulty I tried an easy difficulty run and made it through the whole game without losing a life!
Has anyone tried this on the Steam Deck yet?
Brilliant. I'll make time for it this weekend.I play it mostly on my Steam Deck and it's perfect.
Btw I just realized the ending was different with this second time I finished the game!!After playing a while on normal difficulty I tried an easy difficulty run and made it through the whole game without losing a life!
You will be totally fine on easy and normal. This is one of the most approachable shmups you can play.I'm shit at these games but it looks so fucking good. Is a noob to this genre gonna get anywhere on Easy?
Oh. It looked wild in the video. It's been a while. Fuck it. I'll get it when it hits consoles. The graphics are too delicious. It really looks amazing. You will be totally fine on easy and normal. This is one of the most approachable shmups you can play.
I think you should try! Using the password system you can keep your acquired upgrades between runs if you so choose.I'm shit at these games but it looks so fucking good. Is a noob to this genre gonna get anywhere on Easy?
