Cautiously optimistic. I hope its finally the sequel to Battlefield 2142 cause it still remains one of my all-time favourites of the series for how many great new ideas it had.

Though to be honest the Battlefield series have been in a serious downhill slope since Battlefield 3. If any pattern is to be recognized its that the next one is gonna be Modern Warfare, have sloppy netcode that takes 3 years to fix, poor map design with too much focus on "LEVELUTION BRO!!!!!11!!" and less focus on actual good design, map packs which adds constantly new modes but doesn't retroactively try to add them to older levels to make them more relevant, map packs that threaten also to split the community too much and microtransactions, oh god so much microtransaction loot box bullshit. And of course a singleplayer mode that absolutely sucks and should never have been made, but since apparently it turned out to be a myth that if you removed the singleplayer to focus on multiplayer, you would get more content for the other (see Star Wars Battlefront) then it doesn't matter if they have it or not.

Fucking hated the whole "random accessory packs", just give me coins or whatever like the latest Call of Duty's and let me choose what accessories I unlock for my weapons. Keep the RNG loot boxes to cosmetic stuff for people with too much disposable income.

They got rid of random Battlepack unlocks for progression in Hardline, you purchased the gun, attachments and gadgets and didn't need a certain score for a class to be able to unlock a gadget. Your score translated into money earned to buy equipment and Battlepacks were a completely optional purchase. I did like the map design in that game dlc maps included, even though it is an infantry focused Battlefield. Felt a lot more balanced than BF4s, even though there were Levolutions were still in.

And guys, I've been playing a WW1 Battlefield for months now. http://youtu.be/gRrXUuGf6zc

Where did those alternate WW1 rumors originally came from anyway?

I think it's way to risky to take such a huge gamble on the franchise name.

I think it will be near future

One Swiss Retailer had it in their listing and removed it pretty fast when it got some steam.

I dont see it as a risk. It just needs to be something fresh. Another Future or WW2 game would be nothing new anymore.

That is true, forgot that Hardline did away with that. Much better unlock system than DICE's games. The level quality, some were pretty good but the lack of destruction from earlier games felt like a pretty big step back. So many times you shoot a grenade at a wall and then remember you can't blow a hole in it, was a bit disappointing.

It's probably just typo. WWI -> WWII

Yeah, the rumour is that it's an alternative take on WWI.

My own take on the alternate history aspect is to have more weapon types available in a time when they were only prototypes or simply not considered. 5.56 assault rifles for example (M416, F2000, M16) were widely adopted later in the Cold War. Making it alternate history gives them an excuse to have this kind of assault rifle for the assault class.

I'm sure that had more to do with cross gen than anything. The BC and 1943 games had buildings that were pretty much all the same and all were destructible, but 3, 4 and Hardline had unique buildings because of real locations. A current gen only game should be able to handle a lot more destruction across the map.

Yup thats probably why Alternate History WW1 makes sense. The game will be fresh. You will have the uniforms etc from WW1, the Weapons, Prototype weapons, maybe even some Fantasy Weapons (Wolfenstein TNO did that) etc. Same will apply to the vehicles.

I can see this as a very amazing setting.

Yeah, they can make it any time period they want, but the gun selection won't alienate fans of the modern games. Instead of different red dots sights, here are different styles of iron sights, etc.

I agree, this sounds amazing and I think it may bring a new breath of fresh air to the series. I fucking love Battlefield but modern warfare is starting to feel tired now. An alternate history WW1 IMO would create massive hype, but I think it would all depend on what they are looking to include in the game weapon wise and vehicle wise.

Man, if your idea isn't what happens I'll be so disappointed Lmao.

I hope they give us a dark and gritty take on WW2 if that's what period they've gone for. Give us a real look at the horrors of war, maybe sort of like a Band of Brothers/Saving private Ryan type campaign. Normandy beach would make a great rush mode too.

Campaigns in Battlefield have really started to become shit in recent games. I really hope this one is good.

Not even rumors. It was something some site pulled out of their ass as click bait. All the other sources care more about hits than actually doing the job so everyone started either taking it from each other or claiming it as 'a source' which is deliberately vague.

Basically just bullshit spread by the twitter fan by people baiting for clicks any way they can...

The state of news reporting as a whole is sad, really, from politics to games.

Even though it's fake it does say "Cover Art is subject to change".

Not realistic, either. I can't think of a world premiere of a AAA game where the game is presented with a preliminar cover, with the real cover being done later.
Usually, they wait until all the marketing efforts are finalized, so people can associate the video shown with what is going to be the official face of the game: the logo, cover, etc.

Hmmmmm

There's going to be so many broken hearts if this is not WWII era.

Going to be a long week of waiting.

Yeah, if it isn't World War II I'm done for a while. So tired of bloated multiplayer games, its why I love Battlefront so much. No attachments and no deep customization. I'm tired of it.

You can have deep customization without it becoming bloated. They just took things too far with BF4 and caused more problems.

I wonder why everybody is doing countdowns. I mean, Shinobi did something similar with the Battlefield themes. Maybe a hint to the game itself? Grasping at straws, I guess.

Nope.

Its just getting people hyped and showing the history. Nothing wrong with that.

They are doing this with every game... people need to stop taking this things as a confirmations for anything.

You're right, "hmm" has traditionally been the sound of absolute confirmation.
It's fun speculation.

With every game i mean this History Videos.

They already posted a one for Vietnam. Does this now mean a Vietnam game is coming? NO.

There will be more History Videos about every Battlefield.

But this is right after the announcement for the announcement.

I fear some gafers really believe they are insiders so they can justify their opinion.

But they're not.
I fear some gaffers such as yourself really don't do their research anymore.

But alas.

Yes the difference between Titanfall and Battlefield & COD and Destiny is the exact same thing. Are you reading what you are posting ? Two competitive multi-players with a thin difference of scope and speed VS a MMO-FPS-RPG that can be played offline or in coop, and a competitive multi-player. THE SAME EXACT THING.
I'm not sure you are reading before posting. Did I ever say they had the same differences? No, for some reason you went along with this narrative.

Thin difference of scope and speed? Are you serious? 64 player, large map vehicle oriented gameplay vs 6v6 arcade shooter with killstreak? Maybe you should play both of these games again when you have a chance to see how ridiculous you sound.

Oh, and Destiny can't be played offline. Try to do your research more.

Jesus Christ. People are grasping at straws for fucking anything.

Having slept on it; I think I'd actually be alright with a 1944 Battlefield 5, but I can't see it happening.

Also this idea that we've got too many futuristic shooters is nuts. Titanfall and Battlefield aren't even remotely comparable, even if they had exactly the same setting, the mechanics of each game are leagues apart. Given that I keep seeing the same people shouting about wanting a 20th Century BF5, I'm pretty sure they're just a vocal minority. People are buying future shit, and that's what we're getting.

Give me 2143 please.

There have been multiple sources predating the Swiss website leak indicating a WWI/WW2 shooter. But that's grasping at straws and your gut is more accurate lol.

It doesn't make business sense to have two FPSes with the same theme coming out within 6 months of each other from the same publishers. It's not like EA is going a three year cycle of Battlefield, Battlefront, and Titanfall. Battlefield is coming out this October/November and Titanfall next March.

People want WW1/2 so badly that all I get is ridicule every time I post about 2143 LOL.

But alright. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, I'll be pre-ordering regardless.

How can you be tired of WW2 games when the last one came out like a decade ago?

Because we had like two decades of WW2 games before CoD4 changed it all?

It's a done setting. There's nothing new about it, everyone knows it from top to bottom.

There's a lot of stuff that can be done with WW2. I still don't think I've ever seen a game from an Axis POV.
