I had so much fun playing as Mei. I hope I get better with her. I felt like I was helping out a lot. I put up barricades to get our Payload moving. It was awesome.

Mei is totally underutilized. Her ice wall can be awesome in saving someone or traping an enemy.

Here's what I think after a few hours:

engine:

+solid image quality at 1440p with smaa medium, not tons of shader aliasing or other types of jaggies
+seems like the mouse controls are pretty solid, I'm going to have to get used to the sensitivity as the game doesn't let you properly fine tune it
+for some reason I only get about 70 fps no matter what settings but the frametimes feel super smooth so I'm not going to complain, consistent frametime 70 fps >>>>>> inconsistent 150 fps like dirty bomb
+fast loading times

-no fine tuning mouse speed, the difference between 15 and 16 in the settings is pretty huge , it needs a decimal setting to finetune
-had to turn the visual effects (or w/e it's called, spell effects?) on low as on ultra it's just a visual clusterfuck and you can't see what going on

Really after how poor diablo 3 was technically this is infinitely much better so I'm pleasantly surprised

gameplay: haven't played long enough (4-5 hours) to draw conslusions but first impressions are that there's a lot of variety in the classes and their abilities and that the map design allows for a lot of flanking.

I was worried there would be obnoxious chokepoints that turn into a meatgrinder but that doesn't seem to be the case (so far)

Hit bleeps are crucial for feedback I'm glad they put those in, but other than that the gunplay is very meh (not much better than the doom reboot)

As for balance early impression is that some classes are much easier to play than others, playing mercy sucks if you don't play with friends on mumble as randoms just let you die to enemy flankers and the turret dwarf + bastion? (turns into a turret himself) seem high impact.

I do really like the scrap collector mechanic for the dwarf, it's basically a kill confirmed mechanic and gives you an incentive to not camp like a little bitch

being able to start playing (without the objectives starting) while waiting for everyone to pick a class or for the last people to connect is a nice touch, sitting in lobbies waiting is a scourge in modern fps games and it drives me away from them.

So far the game seems fun and like it might have variety (classes and map design) to stay interesting for a good while, though it's hard to say if this game will be immune to the blizzard cookie cutter community. (where all you'll see is the most powerful team makeups over and over again)

You can also block their payload from moving using the same strategy. Build that wall

Lost a game today where the defense had 4 Bastions a Torb and a Widow and the noobs on my team (all in my party) were running around like headless chickens. Yep, it's Overwatch.

Anybody who was in the closed beta notice an increase in drop rate for skins?? First loot box a guy in my party got a legendary skin and I got a legendary skin in my 3rd or 4th box. Also have gotten a lot more purple rarity drops and other skins in my 8 or so levels than I did in 20+ levels of closed beta.

It's just so fun and so satisfying.
Man, just woke up, 5AM here... checked GAF, logged in on my PS4, and you know what...

Watching this ain't got shit on PLAYING this! I pulled couple of kills with frickin Widowmaker and I'm usually a terrible sniper, that's how good the handling here feels. What-whaaat love this game guys! :D

I went from whoopin' ass to getting my ass whipped real quick lol. After watching replays its pretty obvious who has experience or not.

really? I remember blocking it with Mei's wall. Is that a new change? Maybe I am not remembering correctly *shrug*

you can wall the front of the payload* and then stand in front and the payload * won't move + you won't get shot, maybe that's what you did

Is there a way a support can get the best moment of the match which it doesnt involves killing?

It used to be nearly impossible but they improved it a lot over the course of the beta. It still doesn't feel great, but it's algorithmic so there's no way it can be perfect. Today a junkrat in my game got PotG for killing 4 people with a tire but the Mercy on our team revived everybody on the team instantly after and got nothing. That made me a little upset.

For sure, TF2 experience helps quite a bit. Overwatch is basically a less chaotic TF2 for me, as I only play 16 vs 16 payload with instant respawn in TF2.

Thats a shame for supports not getting the spotlight

Enjoying it great so far. Ive noticed though that the damage Widowmaker can do in such short time is a bit absurd. At least make her character about headshots. Bodyshotting feels lame.

D'va is freaking ridiculously fun. I dig so many characters in this but I keep wanting to stick to the mech! Being able to fly just makes it. I'm in love

feels like I keep getting matched against full teams. Like it'll end up 2v5 somehow. Never had this issue in the stress tests.

Played a handful of games. Feels good to be back, even though I haven't been out of the beta that long. Matchmaker seems legit, although I'll wait to pass judgment until the end of the week. The matchmaker had some good days and some "shit the bed" days during closed beta, but I'm hoping that was mostly due to the small beta population.

Glad to read so many positive impressions of the game from people on here!

Bastion is too much.

I feel like if there is one hero that can single handedly turn the tide of a game it's him.
Once everyone learns which characters counter each other it becomes very easy to overpower your enemies.

Junkrat and Hanzo are fantastic Bastion counters. Reinhardt is very decent too, even moreso if you have a teammate with you shooting from behind your barrier.

Bastion just seems OP right now because nobody knows how to play yet.

Gotta call it a night unfortunately, but damn this game is fun. My favorite heroes so far are definitely Pharah, Lucio, Junkrat, and Zarya.

Thats a shame for supports not getting the spotlight

A giant rez like that almost always gets potg honestly, so that surprises me.
great ults from supports tend to work, great ults or killstreaks from dps, and then there's also lifesaver and shutdown ones, it'll label them. Like if a pharah is ulting your entire team and you snipe her out right as she starts to save everyone that can easily get a potg.

New players thinking bastions op lol. Pretty sure someone called that a few days ago.

Everyone called it ;) It's happened with literally every beta wave they've sent for the game. "BASTION AND TORB TOO OP" then a week later it's "WHY ARE BAST AND TORB SO WEAK"

This is the best iteration they've ever had of either.

For sure, TF2 experience helps quite a bit. Overwatch is basically a less chaotic TF2 for me, as I only play 16 vs 16 payload with instant respawn in TF2.

Well, I have a ton of experience in TF2, but the things I'm lacking in Overwatch is like knowledge of the map and where I should be, health packs, things like that. That stuff shows if you've been playing in the closed beta.

I'm not sure they should've given bastion 360 spin in turret mode, kinda defeats the point of that weakness as it was prior.

The old bastion with the shield didn't have a 'weak point', he was just basically unshootable from anywhere but the back. Now hitting him in the back does...double? triple? idk offhand, damage. He's a much more fair hero now than he ever was with the shield, he has room for actual skill on his part and the counterplay isn't limited to flanking characters.

To everyone complaining about Bastions, here are some easy counters:
- Genji reflect
- Hanzo/Widowmaker snipe
- Junkrat/Pharah pepper him with explosives
- Roadhog hook

Bastion is actually an incredibly weak character once you learn how to counter him.

I don't know how you expect to get behind him when he can turn around instantly.

Oh my god this game is amazing. All that time in Onlywatch does not compare to this at all. My laptop is absolutely garbage so this game doesn't exactly look pretty but there is pretty much no lag. All the characters are fun and this is the greatest.

Expected to hate Mercy but she is surprisingly fun. Winston is my favorite though for now. Thank god for this open beta.

Holy shit, spent a good amount of time with the beta today, and man having even just 3 or 4 people on comms makes a huge difference, especially if they're all friends

Lucio continues to be awesome, easily my favorite of the supports
D.Va is still my favorite tank, though I need to brush up on my roadhog and rein
Haven't spent a lot of time with attack heroes since we usually need a support, tank, or builder
Speaking of which WOW Torb is fun AF, which I shouldn't be surprised about really, I enjoy TF2's engy
And holy crap Pharra winning me back, started playing a tad more passively than my usual TF2 soldier and it made a world of difference. Conc rocket is fun to use as well, getting better with self-boosts.

I still mis-click Q... when will the pain END

I wonder how high I can keep settings to get from 60 to 120 FPS... Ultra looks fucking niiiice but I feel like I should at least give 120 a shot before beta's over...
