Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

Pretty good reviews so far, although by default ever since Bioshock Infinite burned me, i've been suspicious of overwhelming critical acclaim until i try the game for myself

Don't see a game on the horizon this year to challenge Uncharted 4 as an overall GOTY package. No Bloodborne or Witcher 3 level stuff in sight. Stuff like Overwatch will be great but it's only 'half' a package. The Last Guardian will probably be super interesting but with mechanics a bit all over the place. Horizon and Zelda are now 2017.
FFXV

Cannot believe the saltiness at the 8 scores.

Come on guys, enjoy the game for what it is, lmao.

Where's the saltiness? I mean, even in this thread, I don't think I've seen any unsavory or unflattering posts. The most I've seen are people hoping to see posters overreact and emotionally lose themselves - which is just as sad.

Which was predicted by some users and me.

While personally I did find U3 disappointing (especially with the aiming fuckup), that is true. Case in point: MGS 4 was beloved by MGS fans and got GAF GOTY that year. Yet if you look at how GAF seemingly talks about it now, it must have been a hugely disappointing travesty. Why? Because the majority who loves it is tired of having to fight the fight: criticism is always much easier than praise. The critic can easily make the enthusiastic fan look like an uncultured, undiscerning fool. The more linear and story-heavy a game is, the more this is so (the critic can always rely on the go-tos: video game writing sucks; games are meant to be played, not watched, etc.).

P.S. With the aiming fixed and a lot of distance from the far superior 2, 3 was still an excellent game and among the best in the genre.

UC3 aiming was the least of its worries. The gunplay was so dire that making it the major feature of the game really left a sour taste in my mouth. I couldnt bare it in the end and never went back. Hearing UC4 is more like 2 is a good, hope it's nothing like 3.

I hope P5 gets close or matches this score..not because i care about what the reviewers think, but because i know others do, and it'll really be a boost to the franchise and get people to take a look who otherwise would not have

Maybe getting closer to bloodborne's rating would be more realistic

If a JRPG ever did this- I'd be in tears. The genre needs that dose of adrenaline.

IMO, only P5 has a change of reapeating this. FF15 scores will most likely get stomped by performance concerns [even if they are minor].

I honestly doubt it as well, but the game is such an unknown right now. It's really the only game I can think of that has a shot at crossing 95.

I really do wish it was coming out this year so it would make things more interesting. At this point, there is no other developer close to the stuff that Naughty Dog is putting out. I think we really take it for granted. They are already in the next generation especially when it comes to storytelling and graphics. Even if the gameplay in Zelda is amazing, Nintendo has a lot of work to do in these areas. Actually, every developer does. This generation has finally arrived and the bar has been set.

The demo was bad. I'm sure the whole game will flow much better than that badly pieced together demo but it should receive lower scores based on subpar tech alone. No excuse for a game to hover in the 20-30fps area. A PS4K or PC version is needed to brute-force it to acceptable levels.

FFXV scores will most likely get stomped by critics not really liking the game in general, especially the story, that's my bet.

I'd be shocked if it reach 9 MC.

I was reading Gamespot review, but it got a little bit spoilery for my taste so I stopped :/

But the guy was praising the game as hell! He said it has the best setpieces in the entire series!

Persona 5 won't come out this year outside of Japan, so I think this will be the highest rated game at the end of the year for sure.

Edit: FFXV, I just don't see the game being good as of now, I am sorry.

The one thing that I think is kind of cool is how the franchise, characters, developers, storytelling, and graphics have all paralleled their maturity with my life. I was 21 when Uncharted 1 released, in a hospital bed, and didn't know if I'd live to make out. Since than I've fallen in and out of love, lost people dear to me, and acheieved things I never thought I would. Every single Uncharted and Naughty Dog release was an event- and each game set the bar higher for the entire industry.

I'm glad ND took the deliberate, slow paced, and adult like tone with this game. The games grew with us, and as a franchise, Uncharted is a stunning of example of the evolution of game development and narrative devices. I'm smiling ear to ear thinking about the past 9 years. This is going to be the last hurrah- and it feels welcoming and upsetting. Whatever the case, I couldn't be more excited. The 30 year old thuway's versus the 21 year old's expectations from this medium are vastly different. I'm sure there are a ton of people who feel the exact same way.

Uh huh.

I don't think it's out of the question to say Naughty Dog has innovated in the story telling, acting, and narrative based gaming side of the industry. They are literally unmatched when it comes to character expression and attention to detail. I don't think they innovated the third person shooter/adventure game- but they definetely had a hand in shaping the way we tell stories, capture performances, and convey emotions in games.

I think they did with UC2 but that does not happen often .

So it seems setpiece concern was a little unfounded? Interesting, at least those with worries can now play without fear.

Well, rip the people that are waiting for the P5 announcement coming in less than an hour.

The backlash will be insane today if what you are saying is true. More than bad scores in an Uncharted 4 review thread.

no your right, only p5 can do it..Persona titles have basically elevated in overall score with each successive title(Persona 3 got 86, P3FES got 89, P4 got 90, P4G got 93 ect), as opposed to FF that have dropped more after each game. I dont expect FF15 to do well ratings wise, because the combat system and other things seem controversial and not sellable to everyone, although i expect it to see good sales

What other game can threaten it this year really, anyone expect Team Ico's to reach their PS2's gen scores?

It's a pretty safe bet that U4 will be the highlight ranking game this year, especially if it can maintain that 94, if it will it can be the highest rated game until Rockstar's game.

Replaying Uncharted 3 for the Nathan Drake Collection showed me that it wasn't a bad game at all. It just wasn't as good as 2. Combat was much improved and it's goddamn pretty on PS4. UC2 is a high bar. UC3 missed it, but it's a great game.

Agree,
i think hype/expectations kinda makes many reviews , both from media and individuals, too biased.
I am playing u3 right now becasue i didn't have the time before and i find it to be a great game. Not U2 level, but quite there. As someone pointed, it has higher highs and lower lows. So the overall game feels less polished. ANd it shows it was kinda rushed to meet deadlines.
I will wait a while before playing u4, to avoid franchise fatigue, but i am sure ND learned a few things about the things thath went wrong with U3, and also the ones they learned with TLOU, and u4 seems to build on that delivering a very solid improvement and probably the most polished Uncharted game to date.
