Something is off with IGN vs Gamespot reviews.

I wonder which one is right. not that I consider 8.8 is a bad score but i kinda have this feeling this game deserves way more than that from what i have seen so far.

Of course i didn't play it yet so i cant judge.

I predicted at least a 93 Metacritic score and currently it's sitting on 94!

Congrats Naughty Dog! Can't wait to jump in on release day (although I have been spoiled already -.-).

Woah, I'm hyped. And guys... that 91 from 4players is worth a 9.8/10 - the reviewer is one of the most critical yet competent guys out there. Hope street date gets broken over here.

What do we get for guessing right? complimentary GAF Gold?

HOLD STEADY ON THAT 94

Lucy O'Brien gave RotTR, aka Mediocre Uncharted Clone 2 - Electric Boogaloo, a 9.3, and Uncharted 4 a Twilight Princess.

YES. I. AM. MAD.
That's what makes you rage? Jim Sterling gave it the same score as QB. QB.
You guys ain't serious, right?

Like, really? Same scores doesn't mean the scores or games are comparable, since the games succeeds or fails on its own merits. That whole "But...it has the same score as [insert game name here] is merely a reader bias.

Polygon scored the game higher than IGN? Glad I'm not a betting man because I would have mortgaged the house and went all in on that.

HAHAHA. You and thousand of Gaffers. If Polygon was a person, clearly he would be a nasty villain here.

I'm really happy the game is getting good reviews. I truly adore Naughty Dog.

Doesn't matter what a game "deserves" or what you and everyone else think a game deserves. Only what the individual felt about the game

I know that. Doesn't make it any less enraging, childish or not.

Jim Sterling is always an outlier in his own inimitable way.

Lucy O'Brien is holding sway for a big, big global outlet.

I like Rise of the Tomb Raider, but a 9.3 is a stretch. Specifically if she was citing good writing (which is laughable, but I don't know if she actually did).

Didn't play it but back than people made it sound like it's so much superior than the first in most ways, besides maybe story which was expectedly weak.

Fair play.

I hate taking this sort of argument, but honestly, RotTR only got mega praise when it initially released on Xbox One. When it released months later on PC, the praise was more lukewarm. Still good - it's still a good game - but nowhere near as excitable as the XBO launch... In short, I think RotTR got more praise than usual because it was a breath of fresh air for XBO, where there aren't many games like that (magical realist story driven, adventure driven, open-linear). I think for the Playstation gamers, who have been loving all over Uncharted for almost 10 years, Tomb Raider will be far more mundane.

It's not like we compared it to a racing game, they are all in the same genre, the game is supposed to be judged in comparison to the genre, not in a vacuum.

Should I get this today? Last "new" game I got was Tomb Raider. I'm like 6 months behind whats currently out. This or Rachet and Clank, which would give me more bang for my buck?

Metacritic's been stuck at 62 reviews for a while. Hoping that 94 holds out until the end of the day.

Not explicitly, but

Minute-to-minute, Lara shines. She’s confident and smart, and reacts to danger with an action hero’s calmness and intuition. Yet she’s scarred by her last adventure, so she carries a sort of charismatic weariness that tinges her quips with self-deprecation. As a character, Lara Croft has never been so endearing.

If this isn't a compliment on writing, I don't know what is.

Uncharted 4 isn't out yet, it's out may 10th

as for bang for your buck, Rachet and Clank is cheaper so you might think that is better

If we're talking about what the vast majority of the media(and NeoGAF for that matter) will pick for GOTY, then UC4 is a no-brainer. Its AAA industry gorgeous, its readily accessible both its in style and game design, widely available on the most popular console, single player focused, Western in ethos. One need only look at the last 10 years of media GOTYs to see how Uncharted slots in.

lol

shameful how much people's soft-worth is held and broken by the opinions of others on their preferred entertainment products

Not at all surprised at the scores, this is Naughty Dog - the best team out there.

The part I love the most is the disappointment and salt from the people that were hoping it would flop, too sweet & funny.

Yuck.

For every one solid Lara line in RotTR, there are four or five cringeworthy ones. Over-directed/over-acted screams or exclamations, off-tone delivery, over-obvious script, etc etc. When the game gets it right, it's right, and works really well, but that's the minority of cases.

It's all the audio/story directors' fault, not the actress. But it's also not an easy job. Just this week I recorded a load of VA for a voice actress, and damn it's hard to get shit right. Naughty Dog are utter professionals and masters of the craft.

Also every character except Lara is complete shit and the overarching plot is just not compelling at all. The adventure is great, and the backstory/lore is decent, just the minute-to-minute plot is... Yugh

Oh, I thought this was out today. Nevermind, I'll lose interest by then.

Seems like Eurogamer review has alot of spoilers so be careful.

I'm not reading a single review because spoilers.

Scores all the way. Even though they're basically meaningless to the individual.

Do you remember the Uncharted 3 review thread?

They absolutely are serious.
