Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

Just because you've heard it a lot and some parrot it too much, it doesn't make the criticism stupid. It's fair.

I don't know about that. Seems the wrong game in the series to make that kind of stance.

Since it's the 4th game in the series, completely making it a non-issue would require some sort of crazy retconning. The game does a pretty good job with it none the less.

Wait a min... from Jim's review:

Is this dude serious? I thought this shit was a meme driven by trolls. I did not think a journalist would be standing by this. GTFO with this haha...

Just wow...

Like I said, the dude's reviews have been really off this gen.

Nah, it's a totally dumb complaint. No two ways about it.

I can see why you think so, but it isn't. And in a lot of ways the things that irk some aren't what people think. There's a reason why you see the complaint levelled against Uncharted and not any one of a multitude of Call of Duty games, or many other first and third person shooters. Even The Last of Us.

It's a matter of tone, and gameplay conflicting with a tone, and that being neglected by the story. You don't get to ignore it because it's inconvenient - that's bad story-telling.

But anyway, that's a different topic.

Yeah. The Drake mass murderer stuff is fun for a good laugh but it has literally never once bothered me while playing and enjoying the games. I feel like if you're offering it up as genuine criticism you're taking the video game far more seriously than Bruce and Neil could ever make it.

Something that both Kotaku and Game Informer guys commented is that the villains are kinda poor.

Those who have played, without spoiling anything, please, are they really underwhelming? Marlene and Rafe seemed to have great potential.

You mean, just because the game is "funny"?

I will never ever understand people that use this as a legitimate complaint about the series. Its not like Drake is killing innocent people anyway. These guys are out to kill him too.

Now I feel bad for all the stupid aliens Ratchet kills

no its not. its a shooter. its not a walking simulator.

A piece of art that has players connect emotionally with the characters and also has realistic depictions of those characters killing for the entertainment of the player is disturbing to some people. If a reviewer experiences that, is he supposed to pretend that those feelings don't exist? Why? Or is his opinion supposed to not matter? Why?

I'm not ignoring it. I think it's an idiotic complaint.

This is the fourth game in a series. Unless the writers somehow retcon the past 3 UC games, there is not an acceptable way to overcome the issue to please people who parrot the meme around.

And UC4 still does a pretty admirable job with it regardless. That the complaint was levied against the game in the series that handles it the best, despite the baggage over the course of the series makes it an idiotic complaint.

Yea, it's dumb complaint. Just because he put it in a review doesn't make it any less stupid.

Ohh, you edited your post =]

We are speaking about a videogame. Sorry but this is nitpicking at is finest .

Any score lower than 9 is a troll. Nobody could have that opinion.

What?

I think we're on different wavelengths. I'm not talking about Jim's comment, which seems like it came from a place of being funny and inflammatory. I'm talking about where the argument behind his statement comes from.

But again, different topic for a different thread.

Yea, I fully see a topic like that hitting the front page of GAF sometime soon.

Filled with people trying to act as if retconning past games is an acceptable outcome to overcome a meme.

Lime is drafting the thread as we speak
