The Gamespot review said it has the best setpieces in the series!

I'm going to spoiler tag this.

the one shown already is the longest, loudest set piece in the game by a stretch. But there are several, several others that are jaw-dropping and special in unexpected, remarkable ways. Game is a masterpiece

Yea, there's some really intense stuff in there. But that setpiece, man, playing is believing.

That right there is the best setpiece in all of Uncharted. That entire chapter is one of the best in the series.

Thanks, guys! Holy shit all of this sounds super exciting I'm actually end up getting a PS4 just to play this game (And Ratchet and Clank, love me some platform goodness as well)! A used PS4 at least cuz I'm broke as hell at the moment hah.

It's hard to find non-spoilery pictures in my massive collection of photos, but here's one:

I think people aren't ready to see how amazing this game looks in person. Official media didn't do it justice.

Dat chest hair and uneven facial hair. So he grows facial hair as the game progresses as well?? Wow!

Nice reviews. I still haven't played 3 so I will hold off on this one. Probably going to pick up the collection on PS4 before this one. I am pretty surprised it hasn't been on sale before 4 released.

Redbox is selling it for $18.99. Obviously doesn't include a case, but it's a damn fine price.

Probably from the same place the dumb narrative that Naughty Dog gets a free pass (while studios like Ubisoft don't) comes from.
Regarding dumb embargos? Yes, ND does get a pass because of fanboys. This is not really up for discussion, its a fact.
Who criticized it? GAF? Did reviewers lower their score because of this issue?
Yes, they did, feel free to go and read the reviews for it.

There's a minigame that you can do over and over where you get to shave Nate's face however you want, so you can actually give him a goatee or have some wacky design if you want, as his facial hair grows throughout the game.

not really lol

I don't think anyone is saying that Uncharted is the only game that gets the criticism, but the "ludonarrative dissonance" meme is strongly associated with Uncharted

Then Uncharted has no chance to explain it since most of the games do this for years but people have less problems with these games. I don't know why, maybe because of kill/death ratios make people think about it. I think I should make a thread about thought on killing each other in multiplayer games since they don't have story explained for the killing.

Dan Ryckert making these next few days unbearable...

Giant Bomb said:
We were ready for the next big thing from the studio, and Uncharted 3 already felt a bit too familiar to its predecessor. I’m glad to discover that these worries were misplaced, and Naughty Dog has created another classic with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. While it shares plenty of elements with the entries that came before it, the bar of quality has been raised substantially to create the best game in the series.

The jump in quality from Uncharted 3 to 4 is similar to the ways the second entry trounced the original. It’s still the same Nathan Drake partaking in the same ludicrous, death-defying action as before, but everything is done with so much more panache.

...nitpicks are in no way significant enough for me to consider A Thief’s End as anything but the best entry in the Uncharted franchise, though. It’s not even just the best Uncharted game. This is one of the most fully-realized action campaigns of all time, and it sets a new bar of quality for what’s possible in the genre.

People were saying that Uncharted are the only games that get that criticism and that Tomb Raider gets a pass. This is 100% bullshit.

That is his expression for those trying to justify the 'Murder Simulator' garbage, lol.

I agree Uncharted is clearly not the only game guilty of the disconnect. It just seems like it was the right game at the right time when the industry was ready to start shedding a light on the issue.

yeah those people are definitely mistaken

I read the Eurogamer review for some reason, I really don't like how the guy tries to claim past Uncharted games are all about the surface with nothing under Neath, that is incredibly reductive and down plays the brilliant level design, pacing and encounters the series has produced. Frankly it's bullshit.

That's Eurogamer's thing when it comes to Uncharted.

IGN is getting super defensive on Twitter.

My thoughts are they'll never drop the 100 point scale review process because they know it leads to controversy and online controversy drives traffic (even if it is malicious trolls sometimes) to their website. If they had just given it a "Great!" or 4.5/5 stars, it would be a lot quieter I'm sure.

I also dislike their process of leaving high profile game reviews up to just 1 person (from all the podcasts of theirs I've listened to.. this is how it sounds like it's being done) I understand this can't be avoided sometimes due to staffing or limited # of review copies provided by developers.

Really?

Show me the wealth of 'Murder Simulator' memes tied to Tomb Raider like it is for Uncharted... I will wait patiently.

Does it have that criticism of her being so savage? Yes, but not nearly a staple dead horse meme for over 5 years like Uncharted is. And it was mostly started as a Lara Too™ thing as well, since nobody really brought it up for any game, like they do with Uncharted.

On a side note, Best Buy is preparing my pre-order Pirate's Booty!!!

Same here. I hope i get it earlier.. but what are the chances of that?

But it doesn't get swept under the rug. People criticize the hell out of Tomb Raider because of it. Where does this dumb narrative that only Uncharted gets it comes from?

Dumb narrative lol. Dumb enough that the idea has spread to the mainstream as a joke about Drake being a mass murderer. Done with this conversation.

Yeah. I believe it would be a good condition for Sony to "impose" on ND so they can continue working with the privileges they currently possess.

We will give you the money you ask for, you will take the time you need, we'll be open for more new IPs, but Bruce and Neil must direct the projects for now.

Sounds lame tbh. Nobody else at Naughty Dog has any vision or talent? I don't buy that.

Good post.

Also, there are character moments in this series that are some of the most touching and lovingly made in all of video gaming. The fact that someone putting their head on another character's lap could be so affecting for me speaks to how good the writing and performances are. There is immense depth in this series if one actually cares to engage with it.

The media embargo? There's a reason for that I'd wager. Already a GAF thread on it.

Nah. Sony could just limit the sections/chapters shown if they wanted, and they didn't even do that. I said in another thread that if it was Ubisoft doing it they would get flak, but since Uncharted everyone forgives it. This is not a "dumb narrative" like the guy who quoted me said, it's a 100% factually accurate statement.

Why are you being so aggressive, sheesh.

honestly though, does Lara constantly get threads titled: "Why is Lara Croft a mass-murdering pyschopath?" too?

Any pre-order bonuses out there enticing enough to forego the GCU discount at Best Buy + gold coin?

You ass, I wanted to play as Nathan Hitler.

Anyone remember Jim's MW3 review where he gave it 9.5/10? Yeah, his Uncharted review has nothing on that -- and is further proof it's not just Uncharted fans that can go crazy about a score.

I think he's baiting a a lot of them by doing saying so tho, so yeah, expect some flak.

Love this quote from GB

Uncharted 4 isn’t a perfect game...it runs a couple of chapters too long, some of the puzzles feel uninspired, and its multiplayer component is serviceable but largely forgettable.

Interesting, same criticisms as IGN but felt the rest of the game makes up for the padded chapters at the end. IGN felt is detracted from the overall experience. A lot of people have said the same thing. I think just like us Naughty Dog didn't want it to end and just added on a bunch of repetitive sh*t at the end until they closed the curtain.
