Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

I don't know why people are upset with Jim Sterling's review, it was good. The only issue I have is I really struggled to get through the whole "Nate is a sociopathic mass murderer" intro which I felt was Jim purposefully trying to poke the bear, but when the review actually started I thought it was well written and conveyed his feeling for the game.

I think it's just he provoked many fans, and people can criticise his review if they want, so long as they do it respectfully.

There are people who aren't doing that though, they are attacking HIM, and that's not okay when over slight differences of view.

Still not up to 95 even with 2 more perfect notes added... :/

Empire review still not up there.

26 perfect scores so far, lets get this to >30!

Jim would've already posted here if he had arguments for our criticism of his review. But he is not here, so I guess he really has no counter point.
Why does he have to respond? His review speaks for itself. He doesn't have to defend what he posted unless he wrote something factually incorrect.

Does he bring it up in every game of this type? If not, it's a stupid argument. In a shooting game you shoot bad guys, that's the point.

He brought it up in his TR2013 review, and to some extent in his RotTR review. Even then it's clear why Uncharted faces this criticism whereas Gears of War or CoD don't.

Like I said, I don't agree but dismissing his argument by oversimplifying it doesn't make it stupid.

Guys, for the love of god, don't turn this into a repeat of the last Uncharted review thread, the witch hunts and insults were so pathetic and I know a lot of you felt really stupid about that.

Just read the reviews and enjoy the game.

Can't fans just be happy that this game is right now the best reviewed current gen only game? Why do you have to be trashing Jim's opinion piece with the slight complaints he has?

He already said he liked the game and thought it was a good experience. Sony fanboys act like this is some super serious offense to DARE question anything in particular...

And its not all of them granted, but its really annoying to see the UC3 review thread like embarrassing comments in a game that scored much higher than that.

Just calm down for a second and be happy. The reviewers could have easily trashed this game for being a third person shooter in the current gen, especially in a series this ongoing.

People were discussing the drake mass murder narrative in a well civilized way before someone decided to post the Sterling tweet.

What game scored much higher? Uncharted 3 has 92 at metacritic and Uncharted 4 is at 94 with changes of ending at 93.

No PC, plus I just powered through Uncharted Collection, so I am going to complete the Naughty Dog PS3 experience before UC4.

Wait... You've finished ND Collection or not?

Either way, enjoy!

My recommendation goes for any others who are looking for something to tide them over

Just Cause 3 is perfect for that. Similar vibe

I am with you they think ND or Uncharted are entitled to get perfect scores or get any criticism as the game had recreated the wheel or there weren't any flaws in the game story or mechanics. I just read a stupid post on the first pages by someoane saying that any score below 9 is a troll review lol

He's most likely calling rabid fanboys shitheads, not people who disagree with him.

Rabid fanboys or not, tweeting something like that squeals "look at me I want attention" I'm sure he isn't the only reviewer who has been "Twitter harassed" today by rabid uncharted fanboys. What makes him so special that we should be shitting up the review thread with his pathetic tweet.

Either give this game a 9 or a 10 or I will try as hard as I can to make your opinion invalid! This thread is full of it, from people calling some of the 8/10s "invalid" and people saying that reviews that gave it less than 9 were "trying to send a message", as well as coded complaining about IGN's 8.8 in the disguise of complaining about it being a "review in progress". Not a single person would have complained about that if it was a 9.5 lmao.

OMG.... lolololololololol

Some of those ideas sound strange in a UC context. I find the inclusion of stealth alongside the rope mechanic (and the multi-layered combat levels) to be a far greater improvement and certainly contributing much more to the depth of the gameplay then something simple like being able to throw a bottle.

I read it as wanting more.

Brian cites TR as like having 5 different tools for different mechanics (bow, hook shot, etc) and even within those tool sets, there's RPG elements for upgrades, etc.

None of which UC4 does. UC has always been focused on leaner experiences without a lot of heavy mechanics, but they think it could be deeper? Even if not RPG elements, maybe other stuff.

Can't please everybody, with every decision. Colin from Kinda Funny thought adding in new mechanics was a negative to the game. Specifically he pointed to the rope saying "Drake couldn't do this before, why can he all of a sudden do it now?"

That's a pretty dumb argument.

Also, wantig RPG style mechanics similar to TR in Uncharted is also dumb, why not add unlockable "brutal finishers" as well?

Some criticism sounds valid and reasonable but others sounds pretty stupid sorry, got nothing to do with being salty or anything.

Being tired and old doesn't make it any less relevant. If it was a problem before, it's still a problem now.

If you know it doesn't bother you, I'm not sure why what Jim thinks about it matters to you.
It's kinda odd that Uncharted games are the only one to be critized for the video game logic. Meanwhile, other games don't seem to suffer from it (For example, Quantum Break and Angry Joe's review thread show that criticizing video game logic is considered as nitpicking).

I just checked the last two games I could think of with a wise cracking, wity, positive, or grinning etc. protagonist who in actuality goes around murdering everything ( Ratchet & Clank, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate) and Jim did not mention a thing about how they are smiling serial killers in his reviews.

Jim is obviously trying to stir the pot but to play devils Advocate or give him benefit of the doubt......

1) R&C had cartoony characters so is less realistic and doesn't hit home as much

2) The other is called Assassin's Creed for sakes so obviously you are going to kill people

But yeah his plan is working though and drawing attention to his review

I thought after looking at the reviews that this thread would be tame/celebratory, but it looks like this time all it took was an 8.5 and an 8.8 for the conspiracy theories and insults to come out.

FYI, the initial teaser scene isn't in the game. So I fully expect some sort of downgrade thread to pop up on GAF.

Here's the closest image in the final game that reminded me of the teaser. Not really a spoiler (it's Nate's face and context-less), but I'll hide it behind a link anyways.

Why does it matter? lol

A lot of people care in review threads. My first ban on neogaf was asking the RDR graphic comparison thread why people care about the differences so much when it's not a big deal. I got banned for undermining the purpose of the of the thread or something.

Did anyone actually think that was going to be in the game? I always thought it was just made as a teaser for the game. An in-engine scene showing what they could do with the PS4. It was never intended to be a section pulled from a part of the game.

If true then you might just get a new ban now. ^^

Really?

Show me the wealth of 'Murder Simulator' memes tied to Tomb Raider like it is for Uncharted... I will wait patiently.

Does it have that criticism of her being so savage? Yes, but not nearly a staple dead horse meme for over 5 years like Uncharted is. And it was mostly started as a Lara Too™ thing as well, since nobody really brought it up for any game, like they do with Uncharted.

On a side note, Best Buy is preparing my pre-order Pirate's Booty!!!
About a month after the game came out, IGN made a video lampooning it's ridiculous kill count. GAF went nuts over a similar video about Uncharted made years later.
