So, someone explain IGN's review for me. Like, how does the review in progress work? The game's at 8.8 for what I assume is just the SP. So when they play the MP, do they just kinda add points or reevaluate the entire score?

Seems like the whole review in progress kinda lost all meaning.

Reevaluate.

Are they waiting for the online portion to go up or something? lol

Yes. I am confused why that is funny in an age where games are literally released with broken online like Halo MCC, Driveclub, Battlefield 4, etc.

The fact that they gave a score at all before deciding on the "actual score" is kinda ridiculous though. Either wait for the online to settle down to score or dont score at all before release. "If we had to score it now" wat

watch that shit end up on 9.
its a great score i agree but that number is shady as fuck.

my predictions:
ign final score will be 9 or above

and jim next youtube video will be about internet rage about reviews.

I hope they lower it just for the meltdowns. People losing their shit over review scores is endlessly entertaining.

Zero. You can thank miss ign that gave it a lol worthy 8.8 that will bring it down to 93 on MC.

I decided to play my copy early and its objectively an incredible game that deserves no less than a 9.5. No ifs or buts about it.

In a thread like this I have trouble telling what is trolling and what is serious. My post is assuming this is serious (which I sure hope is not the case).

If I'm not mistaken, Metacritic does some sort of weighting with how they aggregate reviews. Disregarding that for the moment, I took all of the critic reviews they are currently reporting and averaged them, and I came up with 94.623. I'm not going to try to figure out if that 8.8 is figured into the overall score yet (I don't think it is). So if we assume it is not a part of that score and everything is not weighted, the score drops to 94.5287 once the 8.8 is added. If the 8.8 was a 10, the score would raise to 94.7. If the 8.8 was a 0, the score would drop to 93.271.

Like I said, all of this ignores weighting. But because of the number of reviews that are in, unless one site has a LOT of weight, their one review isn't going to affect the overall score much.

But I'm probably farting into the wind here, because that probably wasn't a serious post.

and yet what was the score they gave to mcc. i dont wanna sound that i am pissed at the score i swear im not actually i was expecting this game to score 90-91 because there is a lot of reviewers out there and it is impossible to please everyone. but i have a feeling this is a strategy by ign. first release this score knowing that fanboys will rage over it and get the clicks, than release a high score than everyone will click to know what changed.

smart guys

Are there any good reviews that I should bother reading without spoiling anything?

I heard a few were quite spoilerific. I don't really want any major plot details.

yeah this shit is madness. wtf. its so predicable. and happens with every high profile release. i dont remember this tension in GB review thread and it had worst scores or maybe i wasnt paying attention. but jesus people really should stop, there is a hundreds of reviews out there its impossible please everyone

yall are killing me. 8.8 strikes again?

We're venturing into "Wall of Shame Posts" territory people. Double check what you're writing and make sure you're not taking things too personally.

I'm not surprised with the IGN Beyond crew's reactions to Uncharted 4. Brian was already complaining before the game came out that Uncharted isn't open and deep enough...he wants it more like Tomb Raider. Marty always talks about how much he likes shorter-experience type games. So I dunno...I kinda predicted their luke warm reactions. Lucy loving Tomb Raider so much and giving Tomb Raider a 9.3 made me expect something lower for Uncharted 4. It's interesting that every other IGN country review gave it higher than their main review from Lucy.

Personally, I expect to end up feeling much closer to Gamespot, Giant Bomb, and Tim from Kinda Funny.

It's mostly a single player experience. No one really buys Uncharted for the multiplayer. I feel like it is more of an added bonus. Those games you mentioned are more multiplayer focused and for sure are a bigger integral part of the game. I don't even think the online portion of the online will even be on the disk right? Don't you have to download it separately like Metal Gear Online 3?

Anyway, 8.8 is still a great score. Just thought it was weird considering everyone else already gave a full review.

Factually wrong

Mama Robotnik's Uncharted 3 roundup should be the first thing in the OP.

like the ones that have been happening all day amiright?

So there was a mention of 17hrs to play the game. Seems okay. How does that compare to earlier Uncharted games?

Some reviewers complained about the pacing though, like they stretched out the length but it was hard for them to fill up with interesting parts and give a rhythm to it.

This isn’t really true. Uncharted MP grew with each game, UC2/UC3/TLOU were big and popular.

This.

Ultimately, it's just different people's opinions. I don't think I'll share them, but I get what they're saying.

lol i dont know the story behind zelda but i imagine back then 8.8 was considred a shitty score. lol i remember people shitting gow ascension because of the 8 lol

we've come full circle

That’s mean...

I mean, I see this a lot, but it’s kinda mean.

If you're seriously getting yourself worked up about numbers after a decimal point in a review score you have bigger problems than me silently laughing at your posts.

I feel like it's an added bonus. Kind of how the people that buy Call of Duty and Battlefield buy it for the multiplayer and see the campaign as an added bonus?

Idk, the multiplayer is fun, but I have never seen it as a big draw for me at least.
I can't imagine the score going below 8.8 because of it. At least from what I played of the beta. If anything, it will probably bump it up to a solid 9.0.

Yeah, twilight princess got an 8.8 from gamespot and gertsmann (dunno how to spell it).
I wasn't active on gaming stuff back then but apparently it was a huge thing.

And that was after gamespot gave wind waker like a 9.3 or 9.5? Not sure who reviewed that though.

When people start to get mad about 8.8, is the time to some review site to use nonsense numbers like 27 as their highscore.

I would just grab my popcorn.

On topic. The game has 26 perfect scores until now?! Amazing!

You're the one inventing conspiracies man.

you are that guy

So be honest peeps. Who here preordered the $120 Idiot Version? *raises hand*

*raises hand*

I am a fan of the series. Have UC3's still in the box with the buckle and necklace. Wish I could have gotten the UC2 dagger one.

Not ashamed one bit for this one where the state appears to be well crafted, and that GCU discount sweetens it for $94.

Edit: And 10th scores are disingenuous, always have been and always will be if they are not an average of another combined scoring metric. I have said this for over 20 years now. To add, if Gerstmann believed in them, GB would not have a 5 scale 10 point system. (Like his infamous Gamespot system 8.8.)

Nobody could legitimately with a straight face, explain the difference between an 8.3 and an 8.4 unless they were batshit insane.

Every review threads we will focus one low ball number, I think this show how good UC4 is when we focus on 8.8, not 2 star or 7.5.

The way the IGN review system works is by assigning descriptors to each number, 10.0 qualifies as a "Masterpiece", 9.0 - 9.9 qualifies as "Amazing", and 8.0 - 8.9 qualifies as a "Great" game. The reason for the 8.8 score is that the game is just short of being amazing.

You can read more about the system here.

That makes sense to me. I'd probably keep it at 0.5 intervals though. 8 is great, 9 is amazing, anything you feel dances between those two gets an 8.5.

When you're sweating an 8.8, something is off. Take a chill pill folks. You're just clowning yourselves.

That aside, gonna pre-order this bad boy on prime.

Well there are lower scores than the 8.8, but they are solid numbers. I think where people take issue is, without an average system or other scores to get the tenth, how can a person legitimately tell you the difference between an 8.7 to 8.8, or an 8.8 to 8.9, lol.

I mean, come on. 10th scoring is silly without an average system.

May 10th yet so I can play this 10?

Don't even care about the artbook. Only wanted steelbook lol

Blasphemy!

There was one game bundle that came with a UC4 metal mug that I was really tempted to get. But in the end, the special edition's steelbook casing won me over.

It's just too pretty. I couldn't resist.
