At least one day early.
Media Markt Düsseldorf Arcaden. They had STACKS!

A few reccomendations for those of you who just got the game to get maximal enjoyment.

1. Redefine what setpeices mean to you. The bombastic in your face set peices exist in this game, but the bulk of the new set pieces are there to impress you from your environments, interactions, and the jump into an all new world. In short, if your waiting for the next thing to go "boom"- this won't happen nearly as often. However, if you play the game with the intention of- and this might sound redundant- exploring or CHARTING the world- you will find youself blown away.

2. Do not marathon this game. Uncharted 4, is similar to the Last of Us in that it asks you to take a step back, recollect, and take inspiration from your environments, encounters, and actions. An 8 hour session will just leave you fatigued because you are consistenly exploring, learning about characters, and finding yourself solving another puzzle. This a 16-20 hour game- the legnth of two seasons of your favorite television show. You cannot, no matter how commited, fully appreciate something like this with an intent to finish it as fast possible.

3. Readjust your definition of the franchise. Uncharted 4 is more ADVENTURE than third person shooter. In fact, a majority of the game is spent absorbing the environments and invoking the sense of discovery. That sense and wonder of reliving history is unquestionably the strongest point of the game. Previous Uncharted games would throw you into combat with wave after wave of enemies, however this game does away with that for far more thoughtful, directed, and well designed enemy encounters. There is less action, but when it's there its infinitely better than the previous games.

4. DO NOT play this game on the hardest mode on your first play through. The medium setting is hard enough, and frustration will kick in because you'll want to find out what happens next but can't seem to defeat the current wave of enemies. This is a testament to how well designed the AI is, and how the game asks you to approach a situation. Leave the ultra critical thinking to a second play through.

All of this = on-point.

Honestly, I rushed through it (#2) and I really regret it. There are a couple of bits especially where you could clearly spend 2-3 hours in one location, and I rolled through them in 30-40 mins.

Alongside GTA V, this is the only game that gives me the vibe of being on holiday while playing it. It is just such a treat.

So to anyone who has finished it, would you kindly tell me if there's a lot of Elena in the game? Her role gets smaller each game as new characters get introduced, but she's probably my favorite character in the franchise.
I don't need an actual number, just a comparison to the first 3 games.
I'm hoping for Uncharted 2 length(fat chance she'll be in it as much as the first game), but I'm assuming she's in it less than she was in Uncharted 3. I hope I'm wrong.

PM'd.

Yeeah, can't say I remember a single song from U2 or U3. And I just finished them both a short while back.

So the OST complaints are really a non-issue for me.

I only remember the big 'Drake' theme form Uncharted 2's title screen. And that gets some good airtime in UC4, albeit in different guises.

thuway's point 3 is concerning, since combat encounters have always been the best stuff about the series' gameplay

That changes with this game.

Love it...

...just one thing.

I made a little change.

Amazeballs

I am shocked and disappointed how mediocre Rise of the Tomb Raider seems to me. I am close to the finish (won't spoil anything here) but somehow the locations and the story united with the input lag are creating a far less interesting experience than what the definitive Edition offered. And I still imagine that the reboot looked better on PS4 (playing the XBox One Version of ROTTR, at least from a technical standpoint the PC-Version has to be far prettier than what I am playing on XBox One). There is still fun to have here and there but damn I am glad I will finish it today before I get my copy of Uncharted in a fee hours^^ Still also looking forward to the next Tomb Raider.

I can only enjoy RotTR when I'm in a very certain mindset. I need to want to explore the environments and tombs.

The tombs are great at least.

I actually prefer the tombs in RotTR to a lot of the puzzles/"tombs" in UC4. They're a highlight for me.

Looks like a few channels (low-sub count ones) started posting their playthrough on youtube already, even the all-cutscenes video (start to end) is up already.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cool tips, and I like that the is more exploring, but in 4 still going to marathon this and will do my first play through on hard (after the first game, normal on 2 and 3 felt very lack luster with no challenge). Amy thoughts how normal here compares to the previous games?

Apparently, crushing is unlocked at the start, but ND is afraid enough that it'll ruin your experience that they greyed it out (as if it's locked) and give a little are you "suuuuuure sure sure you wanna do this?" message.

....but I thought it was locked....I played hard first because of this....that makes me mad.

I kinda figured this is why mine hadn't shipped, but it's good to have it confirmed. I live in a state where one is, so now it makes sense.
My Amazon order is showing a delivery date of Thursday now :(. What the hell, I've never received a release date delivery late from them.

Mine just changed to "preparing for shipment" so yeah don't worry. I've never had a problem with Amazon delivery times.

My special edition just swapped over to shipping today.

I lucked out too, my brother got a digital copy and since my PS4 is still set as his primary, I can play it tonight and already have it installed/ready to go.

VG247 Uncharted 4 review: not as groundbreaking as 2, but the best in the series
http://www.vg247.com/2016/05/09/uncharted-4-review/

This is a pet peeve, but the expectation that Uncharted 4 will somehow innovate the genre like Uncharted 2 is unrealistic. It's like reviewing Super Mario Galaxy and knocking off points because it didn't establish an entirely new genre like its predecessor - Super Mario 64.

I will say this: this is the best Uncharted game and probably the max you can push this series in terms of quality, spectacle, and story. Think about it guys- just how much bigger can you make set peices before you begin calling the franchise a one trick pony? Just how many "lost civilizations" can you discover before you call this a franchise trope? How often can you expect a developer to create an iteration to a franchise while keeping the story fresh, innovative, and giving the characters a reason to embark on a journey without beating a dead horse?

Damn, Neil was right when he said that today was gonna be full of spoilers everywhere. Avoid any videos people, we waited too long just for ruining it today.

Well ya the embargo lifted for many of us that weren't big networks as well as the embargo to use your own footage. And its an Uncharted game. Gonna be people talking about it and posting about it like normal now

It's ok, logical, I don't mind. I just reacted because one web site posted the very first hour of the game and well... I don't wanna see that!

Anyone think that the supermarkets ASDA or Tesco in the UK will have this on shelves today when I finish work in 4 hours or is it not likely to be broken by a large supermarket?

How important is to have played Uncharted 3 before playing this?

I am wondering this as well. I've seen the entirety of UC 1 and about half of UC 2 but I haven't seen or played any of UC 3. I'm guessing there will be obvious callbacks, but I want to be able to enjoy this all the same.

For those of you asking, the story is self contained. UC4 can be appreciated without any prior narrative context. Everything in the game is it's own adventure, with subtle jokes that hint to prior titles, but nothing that requires you to play a previous game to understands whats happening.

Not at all.

Good to know, thanks!

Hope the U4 headset preset comes out before it releases in North America. I guess using the Uncharted collection one would have the same effect.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear! Thank you! I was really worried about feeling like an awkward new friend to an already tight friend circle.

I wanna say yes, but realistically the supermarkets system wouldn't even allow them to run it through the till if the wanted to until tomorrow. I want to believe too :(

just got prompted for a patch. version 1.02. about 140ish mb.

just general fixes.

so close!!

Wait what? it unlocks in 2 and a half hours?! I wish I knew before, the download would take me at least 3 days.

For the first time I am super hyped about this. Nothing really had me expecting anything different from previous titles, but then I read that they did away with most of the wave combat and turned it into more exploration and adventure gameplay. That's my shit.

You are in for such a treat. It's incredible for that.

Just make sure you take your sweet time.
