did he capitalize Stark on purpose?

Damn wasn't expecting this but I also didn't think it would get the acclaim DOFP got which was a film I liked but didn't love like most people. I'll still be there opening weekend on Saturday.

I've always had a weird feeling about the film. From the beginning I was never hyped about it.

DOFP raised expectations too high it seems. Characters/actors seem to be great. It looks like the plot brings it down.

Yeah, DOFP is masterful in the way it handles character development, themes, and plot mixed with just the right amount of action without overdoing it.

This always looked like it was forgoing the more concise and intimate scale of the previous films for something larger, and it seems to suffer for it.

Granted, faulting this film for going all out with the CG when most MCU films get a pass with critics in that regard (just look at Age of Ultron's absurdly off-base tomatometer) is really questionable to me.

original XMEN cast being 16 years ago and then suddenly coming back is the closest thing we can get to "omg" nostalgia with comic book films, considering it's all still under the same roof

we almost had that

fuck this movie without watching it MAN

that little shit is not james marsden

TBF for a cinematic universe with dozen's of movies the fact that the heroes almost never really fail to stop the villains objects or really lose is quite jarring. I mean i know the villain will temorarily win in Infinity war 1 but imagine a long running tv series or something, where the heroes succeed almost completely pretty much all the time. The way these films are design you could easily have a successful villain in a movie or two to hype up a confrontation in a future and they don't have to be universal level threats.

That's what the MCU feels like to me. A 22-episode television season, but the episodes are a year apart. I leave the theater every time feeling like I just watched someone spinning their wheels for two and a half hours and maybe getting two inches closer to their destination.

civil war spoilers:
the villain won in Civil War though?

Not really,
we know the avengers will combine in infinite war the effects will simply be some more tension in a group that's always had an overbundence of tension, and the biggest problem being is that the villain seems very one and done, his "victory" iffy and his continued importance seems nonexistent

He explictately mentioned in his review (SPOILERS OBV) when
Magneto actually destroys Auschwitz of all fuckin' places

David also admitted him
being Jewish probably helped, cuz that was like...the ultimate Jewish power fantasy.

Hey, I can dig it.

The fact that they kept Zemo alive should make it clear that he's not a one-&-done villain. He'll be back.

I mean, if you only focus on the negative reviews and ignore the positive ones sure.

Theres 26 reviews. Im going by consensus, not sure why I wouldnt. And honestly even reading some of these positive reviews, Im getting that feeling.

It's not as good as First Class or DoFP, no.

This is probably a good barometer. I thought DOFP was extremely middling, and not fit to stand besides films like Nolans Batmans and the best of the MCU (WS/Avengers/Ironman1 etc) but it was right around that middle tier of 'okay' stuff with MoS/X-Men 2/AoU.

This movie failing to be as good as FC and DoFP proooooobably means I'm not going to like it.

Ditko's Spidey was always Red & Black. They changed it to blue later because it was easier to color shadows in.
The eyes weren't black.

It's amazing that that there was blue at all.

To be fair to Ultimate, MCU Cap's first combat costume borrows from it too.

I can see that. Civil War tries to break up the chain I guess and their villains have always been a very weak spot. Other than that, death as consequences in comic books has never worked for me so I can't say I'm disappointed when I leave a movie and they didn't kill someone, and heck, that isn't even exclusive to these movies. I also certainly expect protagonists to succeed in most action movies in general, and guess what? They do.

All these series have killed some of their heroes, and it never means anything.

there are on steaks unless someone dies right?

I'm assuming you meant 'there are no stakes unless someone dies'

And yes, CW was beyond safe. As awesome as the action scenes were, there was little weight to any of it.

And because the MCU has turned into this gigantic monolith of entertainment, I feel that there is very little reason to take chances anymore.

i loooved FC and DOFP but nothing about this movie screamed quality to me. knew we were due for a weak X-Men movie. shame since Marvel is steady climbing.

some people like their steaks either bloody as hell or burnt to a crisp, no middle ground

marvel prefers a nice medium rare for their steaks and the movies are better for it

Hopefully it will be enjoyable but if this flops after F4, at least it brings us one step closer to Fox making that deal with Marvel / Disney (one can wish anyway)

It worked for Sony, who now have a fantastic Spider-man but also Marvel basically making their new Spider-Man movie for them and bringing RDJ (Iron-Man) with them, so it should work out very nicely for them, so who knows what will happen if X-Men flops.

Eh, I think CW and even Ultron (to an extent) weren't exactly safe films. Civil War especially backed away from the formula in pretty satisfying ways despite too many action scenes.
