First Class had the advantage of having rumours that it was in some sort of production hell, and that the movie was going to be terrible. This made my opinion of the final product much higher it turned out to be fun, albeit pretty uneven, movie.

This is true. After hearing the production rumors, in retrospect I expected something like Fant4stic, in which you can literally pinpoint the scenes where the studio got involved. Instead First Class was a perfectly watchable, but still average, film.

First Class is fantastic...when it's about Xavier, Erik, Kevin Bacon, and Moira. Unfortunately that's not the whole film. And Emma talking about war is one of the worst line deliveries of all time.

I'm talking about what you're talking about.

Batroc. But it seems now you wanna talk about Winter Soldier.

Yeah he was one of the main "villain" who was involved in the big climatic showdown. Usually the hero and the villain duke it out at the end for a good 5-6 minutes. That's usually how action movies work.

You're comparing Batroc and Crossbones with Deathstroke as if they're anywhere near the same level, all so you can bash Marvel and assume they'd treat precious DC characters poorly. It's pretty stupid, especially considering we just had Snyder shoot Not-Jimmy Olsen in the face.

That new GIF is a masterpiece.

I prefer First Class and DOFP>X2 as well - I think they're some of the best superhero movies ever made. Top 10 material.

Overhyped? Compared to what

It's aged about as well as an early 2000's Hollywood action movie can. Has a ton of characters that are balanced fairly well, everyone gets their spots in. Centered on Wolverine but hey, at least it involves the Weapon X facility so it's not entirely unjustified

Ya got your Lady Deathstrike, ya got your Pyro, ya got your Mystique sliding under a door giving the finger scene. Yo that Mansion sequence was sick dude. And the desktop in Deathstrike's office? There's icons for Omega Red and Alpha Flight dude!!!! Only fans will get this!!!!

X2 is pretty solid. Way better than Days of Future Past
that's not hard to do

What's with the narrative here on GAF where people are trying to make DOFP out to be a bad movie? I don't see this type of reaction to DOFP or Bryan Singer anywhere else but here.

It's gaf. Everything is divisive here. I think Fury Road might be the only universally loved film I've seen on here

Nah, there's been a couple "someone explain to me why people liked Fury Road" threads.

Usually they ended up being not much more than 40 other people telling 4 or 5 posters "pay some fucking attention"

Never knew DOFP was so divisive here. Probably my favorite comic book movie since TDK.
It's great in terms of throwing up the middle finger toward X3 and erasing a bunch of bad shit from the continuity while accomplishing a pretty convincing soft reboot, but viewed as a standalone film a lot of it just doesn't work that well.

I never thought DoFP was all that stellar to begin with. It had some good performances and some entertaining action, but it was more an act of working with everything that came before it, including the comic influence, rather than pulling off anything great on its own merits.

The original ideas felt like the worst parts, minus QS which sounds like the extent of the creativity was that one time.

DoFP got by on the novelty and pulling that off more than being an actual good film. Singer made some good X-Men films, but those same films made now just aren't going to feel fresh. Even Vaughn barely brought anything new to the table.

I hope they just reboot this franchise for real after this and Wolverine 3. After Deadpool, this franchise seems like Weekend at Bernie's and that is not acceptable in 2016.

Thank you for helping me to articulate the problems with most of the MCU.

They're mediocre.

By what metric? Your personal taste? Sounds like you're trying to make a statement about their objective quality, but both films were very well received at time of release and are continuously cited as being among the finest examples of the genre.

that's not hard to do
As seen in this thread there's people who really love DOFP

DOFP is awesome if you don't want to see cool action sequences and think that 2 hours of "Hey Mystique, you're gonna fuck everything up so stop" "No! I know what I'm doing cuz I'm an adult!" is good shit

Remember when Magneto picked up a stadium and you're like "ohhhhh shit" and then he sets it down? Classic Magneto right there

DOFP is like two movies in one! One movie has gratuitous special effects where the X-Men are saying "boy I hope Wolverine is saving the day", while the other has Quicksilver show up for a token scene and then leave. But boy, what a scene.

Best part of DOFP is when they basically say Magneto killed JFK

EDIT: I really enjoyed First Class though, feared the worst after Wolverine Origins. Solid mix of "learning to be X-Men", Magneto killing Nazis, struggle between fighting for mutants or fighting for mankind, and saving the world. "Mutant and proud" sucks but whatever

Why was Dinklage even in DOFP? Edit out his scenes and the movie is same. Was a waste of his time and talent

Only now the film lacks a villain, and the plotting makes little to no sense.

Seriously - he created the sentinels and his fate is the key to preventing the apocalypse. Would you say the same thing about the role that Miles and Cyberdyne play in T2?

Wasn't it that Magneto was trying to save JFK, who was actually a mutant?
I don't remember to be honest

I know when they get Magneto out of prison they say he was imprisoned for killing him, but later on they backtrack on it for something like that

Disappointing because Magneto killing JFK is SO GOOD

It's funny that people say that X2, First Class and DoFP are mediocre/bad movies (86%, 87% and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes) in a thread where people also state that Apocalypse is/will be a bad movie because it got 51% on RT.

Sure the same could be applied to certain MCU films that try that, but something like Avengers holds up far better than DoFP. AoU falls more victim to this, as does DoFP, as does BvS. And for the record, I for all it's faults, AoU still is the most well balanced of the 3.

DofP is one of the best comic book movies I've seen. And I've seen all your favourites. Need to watch it again, 70s setting was awesome.
