I love Kanye but this was not the right time to try and deliver this message to daytime TV.
There are a lot of salient points in that "rant." He's right when he talks about there not being any real definable geniuses in the modern age, how there's a desire to tear down instead of build up, and how clothes are an unnecessarily large part of determining one's status in school. -snipped-
Preeeeeettttyyy sure he isThat clip was disturbing. I really hope he's not on the verge of some kind of mental breakdown.
I wish more people could drop the expectations thrust upon them and speak from their hearts.
He spoke about trying to connect with Payless so poorer kids could have cool looking clothes and not get bullied.
That was a collab with APC, they set the price points and there clothes nornally cost that much. His end goal with each yeezy season is to bring the price down a lot and eventually k the masses, it's very very high right now and he's aware of it, he's gone on record saying the yeezy season 1 prices were not his choice and "mark my words" . It will take a long time but he basically wants to do what Zara and h&m already do and bring designer clothing to the masses. At least, that's what he says he hopes to anyway. This being the same individual who has white t-shirts with insane price gouging.
He's designating style at a price.
Labeling every passionate speech Kanye gives as a "rant" effectively dismisses him and his arguments. In this case he seemed to be making a pretty solid argument about validation. It's not about giving him awards. It's about recognizing the brilliance of an individual's art. And when you basically dismiss the art of a large group of people, specifically black people, you're silencing them. You're telling people they're only good enough to create shit that we steal later down the road and play off as our own.
We're talking about people who have been placed in an art plantation. And folks have the audacity to laugh or criticize Kanye for wanting to escape it.
lol that skit was hilarious but somehow completely hits the nail on the head when it comes to Kanye.
This dude acts like he is changing the world because he makes clothes or writes music, neither of these things make one damn difference to people starving or does anything to stop war or does anything to help anything really.
I hate when artists try to make a big deal of situations like they are making a difference while they sit around on Twitter all day, you want to change things? Go out in the real world and do something for someone, be kind to someone, show empathy, allow your ego to fade into nothing and actually put others first.
Acting like you are a genius doesn't mean you are a genius, I appreciate he wants to make a difference but come on now, dude is sitting there saying he is talking about clothes while Obama is talking about serious issues.
You know I once heard a story about tupac, I can't remember who it was he helped but he was on the set of a movie and an unknown actress at the time turned up late for filming, she was poor, had nothing and this was her big break, she had a kid, her car had broken down and she was inches from blowing it but when she got on set Tupac asked her what was wrong.
She explained the situation and for the remainder of that week Tupac helped her pick her kid up from school, drove her back and fourth from work, helped her do her grocery shopping and paid for everything in the process and wanted nothing in return, he was doing it because he knew what it was like to have nothing and doing it because in his heart he was a good person, all the death row bravado aside, he was never a thug or anything he was portrayed as.
We have gone from modern examples of people like that to Kanye who thinks he is important to the world because he makes clothes.
Sigh.
What is he even talking about? Making the human race better? What!? Does he have mental issues?
What's up with his voice during this?
Can't fucking wait until this man is president, and don't you dare tell me it's not possible.
