Kanye goes on epic, disjointed rant on Ellen show

There are a lot of salient points in that "rant." He's right when he talks about there not being any real definable geniuses in the modern age, how there's a desire to tear down instead of build up, and how clothes are an unnecessarily large part of determining one's status in school. -snipped-

I choose my words carefully here for Kanye or anyone that thinks there aren't geniuses or those impacting the human race alive today. FUCK OFF WITH THAT. You're so uneducated on that topic do a 2 minute Google search:

Bill Gates, go learn about Melinda Gates and the Gates Foundation turning a tech mogul into a humanitarian for improving the world.

Abdul Sattar Edhi, go learn about humanitarianism in Pakistan.

Stephen Hawking, go learn a thing or two about influencing academia and overcoming personal struggles.

Bono, go learn how a celebrity has a series of beneficial impacts around the globe the "right way".

I could list 50 people here without even trying. Entertaining? Perhaps for some. For someone touting changing the world I sure hear a lot of "I" at the start of his sentences. So enjoy whatever artist you like but don't buy into their complete and utter bullshit please.

Wow....

He touches on important points, as if he's regurgitating them from some truly sincere and Personal revelation, but then he just as quickly devolves into nonsense. He's got the passion. For sure. But I'm confident that if you give 30% of homeless people a mic and some confidence they'd spout the exact same fucking drivel.

He is most definitely unique in that he can speak this way and still get airtime. Obviously part of what he says resonates with people, despite the incoherence and meaninglessness. That passion has impact.

Wow. Ellen's eyes says it all. She was all jittery when Kanye went Super Kanye.

Edit: And what the fuck is he looking at? He has his eyes on the same place the whole time like he is talking to someone.

i think his biggest problem (and i guess his frustration) is that he is just a bad talker/ speaker. He probably thinks more in images and sounds than in words.
He always seems like a chill dude to me. A nice guy even.

I believe he can make a difference (like a lot of people can). He just should have a smart articulate person do the talking for him. Not that i think he isn't smart. He just isn't able to find the correct words to what he wants to say i think.

and i guess he's a bit manic sometimes.

Can I get a gif of Ellen's face around 01:40, just after Kanye says to fuck the paparazzi, whatever perception you have?

I wish more people could drop the expectations thrust upon them and speak from their hearts.

Yeah this is strange, becasue I didn't feel this was that bad.

You can see he is trying to articulate something important to him, but he lacks the presence of mind to do so.

He's not just ranting for the sake of it, you can see that he really believes what he is saying, but is struggling to do so.

That's nowhere near Cruise Missile levels of embrassment.

This wasn't that bad, but the dude has weird ideas on how to fix socioeconomic problems.

Shame, I imagine he really wants to change the world for the better, but it's hard to take him seriously when he still says stuff like "what's the point in thinking".

I seriously think if he wants to change anything and change some perceptions about him, he needs to sit down with a planner and get his ideas down properly. He seems to have trouble vocalising his thoughts in a coherent way when asked to talk about them on the spot.

Narcissism personified, the world doesn't need you Kanye, if you wanna "help the world" then do it. You don't need to ask for permission.

Ill fix the world through $300 jeans and $200 shoes...Ellen help me

Actually my favorite was when he said people started calling him "Michael Kanye" like Michael Jackson because he so talented and affects the world. Pretty sure Kanye does not have the global persona that MJ did...

He spoke about trying to connect with Payless so poorer kids could have cool looking clothes and not get bullied.

That sounds cool and all....but doesn't dude already sell his shoes for like $200?

We aren't so naive to think that demand for a cheaper version of his shoes at Payless or something is going to somehow outstrip these original overpriced one right?

Seems like it would just open up another avenue for bullying. "Look at that punk with his Payless Yeezys. Can't afford the real deal I bet."

The exact same reasoning was always used for uniforms at a middle school I attended. However, everyone was free to buy whatever they wanted as long as it fit the dress code (khaki slacks, white or navy polo shirt, brown/black dress shoes) and in a lot of ways it made it easier for the bullies. Everyone wearing almost the same thing just made the differences stand out even more distinctly. No Ralph Lauren logo on your Polo? Expect to get made fun of. I experienced that shit first hand.

Not saying it's a completely terrible idea or concept, but I don't think the same person who sells $200 Adidas is really the best person to push it.

If he wants to help the kids why doesn't he just give away 10,000 pairs? A lot is his ideas could easily be executed on a smaller scale than what he's looking to. I remember the Sway interview where he shit on him for not having his little label become Ralph Lauren tier. Kanye won't be satisfied until he's Givenchy or Balmain. Dude talking about inking deals with Payless when he could if he wanted to have 10 school districts in new sneakers as a start. He doesn't wanna have just a start though.

The clothes thing sounds superficially like a good idea until you think about where bullying actually comes from and realize that it doesn't make any sense. Even if every kid in the world was dressed like a fashion model you're not putting a dent in the basic human instinct to assert superiority over others.

@ people criticizing him for making $200 shoes and white t-shirts, not just donating a bunch of shoes to poor people, etc.
He doesn't work at Adidas. He is only a partner. He left Nike and joined Adidas because they allowed him more creative freedom but he's still not the one "in charge". He doesn't get to decide the pricing, the marketing strategy, how many units are produced, or where they go.

I think he's legitimately smart, but terrible at self-expression and too unhinged. He has always wanted to be able to do everything, and his own artistic skills have only reassured him in the idea that he is a genius and that there is little he can't hope to take on.

His presidential campaign will be a disaster if he still hopes on running. But I like him as an artist and as a person.

The Great Journey continues

This whole thing seems like he took a decent speech but rearranged the sentences to make their order random and omitted certain parts.

This being the same individual who has white t-shirts with insane price gouging.

He's designating style at a price.
That was a collab with APC, they set the price points and there clothes nornally cost that much. His end goal with each yeezy season is to bring the price down a lot and eventually k the masses, it's very very high right now and he's aware of it, he's gone on record saying the yeezy season 1 prices were not his choice and "mark my words" . It will take a long time but he basically wants to do what Zara and h&m already do and bring designer clothing to the masses. At least, that's what he says he hopes to anyway.

As a side note, people talking about him being crazy now and whatever, the old kanye you guys missed was like this too. It's just that he wasn't this massive tabloid celeb he is now because of Taylor gate and marrying.

Boy I'm watching. Busting out with "What's the point of thinking."

Uh oh

Throw your motherfucking hands in the air. I don't know if I can finish this.

Kanye is my favourite celebrity. My favourite part is how he starts rather chilled out and normal then slowly gets more and more insane

it's like in places he has something super profound to say but keeps changing the subject

How much has he been helping the world with all his millions so far? Honest question, because I've never heard of him doing anything like that.

Labeling every passionate speech Kanye gives as a "rant" effectively dismisses him and his arguments. In this case he seemed to be making a pretty solid argument about validation. It's not about giving him awards. It's about recognizing the brilliance of an individual's art. And when you basically dismiss the art of a large group of people, specifically black people, you're silencing them. You're telling people they're only good enough to create shit that we steal later down the road and play off as our own.

We're talking about people who have been placed in an art plantation. And folks have the audacity to laugh or criticize Kanye for wanting to escape it.

His argument seems primarily composed of word salad. He should debate Sara Palin.

lol that skit was hilarious but somehow completely hits the nail on the head when it comes to Kanye.

This dude acts like he is changing the world because he makes clothes or writes music, neither of these things make one damn difference to people starving or does anything to stop war or does anything to help anything really.

I hate when artists try to make a big deal of situations like they are making a difference while they sit around on Twitter all day, you want to change things? Go out in the real world and do something for someone, be kind to someone, show empathy, allow your ego to fade into nothing and actually put others first.

Acting like you are a genius doesn't mean you are a genius, I appreciate he wants to make a difference but come on now, dude is sitting there saying he is talking about clothes while Obama is talking about serious issues.

You know I once heard a story about tupac, I can't remember who it was he helped but he was on the set of a movie and an unknown actress at the time turned up late for filming, she was poor, had nothing and this was her big break, she had a kid, her car had broken down and she was inches from blowing it but when she got on set Tupac asked her what was wrong.

She explained the situation and for the remainder of that week Tupac helped her pick her kid up from school, drove her back and fourth from work, helped her do her grocery shopping and paid for everything in the process and wanted nothing in return, he was doing it because he knew what it was like to have nothing and doing it because in his heart he was a good person, all the death row bravado aside, he was never a thug or anything he was portrayed as.

We have gone from modern examples of people like that to Kanye who thinks he is important to the world because he makes clothes.

Sigh.

Agreed.

Love all of Kanye's albums, but man does he love hyping himself up. Change the world? You changed the hip hop world, multiple times over, but him acting like he deserves all this money to go on some undetermined passion project is simply inane.

What if someone gave him 10$ billion and he made humanity a intergalactic travelling utopia within 10 years. We'd make crows extinct in this thread alone just from yall gobbling em all down.

I believe in Kanye. Kanye 2020.

Can't fucking wait until this man is president, and don't you dare tell me it's not possible.
