I watched the film earlier today (United Kingdom) and I didn't like it nor did I hate it. It's a harmless yet also throwaway super hero film.
McAvoy and Fassbender are fantastic as always but to be really honest. You can just YouTube the Quicksliver scene when a decent HD upload shows up and skip this film.

Looking at the poster, I actually like the costumes for Xavier's side. Add a splash of color like a little yellow (throwback to First Class) and they'd be A+ in my book.
I like the way the blended it with new Jean theme as the credits track.

But boy, this theme will always bring chills to my spine. The soundtrack is phenomenal.
It's better than BvS but doesn't have the emotional investment that Civil War wrangled. Still, it has plenty of tense moments, which both BvS and Civil War lacking due to the chosen topic of those films.
All in all, I enjoy it even though I found the new kid X-Men to be dull-looking. Storm is the only one who looks striking while the rest are meh-looking, especially Cyclops. And I wish they had cast someone else instead of Olivia whatshername as Psylocke. The character could have been so much better had they cast a better actress.
It's a summer blockbuster film. At least it's fun to watch. And oh yeah, the opening title sequence is slick and Bond-like. I forgot how cool the main X-men theme is.

Saw it tonight. Wasn't expecting much. Reviews weren't so good. But I loved it. My only complaint was cosmetic. I thought the bad guy looked liked Peter Boyle as Frankenstein in Young Frankenstein. But overall the film ticked all my Xmen boxes:
And it kind of makes no difference what Jennifer Lawrence said about she and Michael Fassbender and some of the others who had already been in 3 films making a pack that if one doesn't come back, none of them will come back because
I'm looking forward to the next one.
1) person discovers they're a mutant and are brought to Prof X.'s school 2) young mutants gain confidence and learn more about their abilities and become Xmen 3) Xmen working together as a team, combining abilities against enemy 3) romance 4) humor 5) backstories.
the film sets up a new Xmen team of all new young first timers: new Storm, new Cyclops, new Nightcrawler, new Jean Grey, and Quicksilver (who was in 1 other film). Really you could just have McAvoy do a smaller Xavier part and wouldn't need the rest.
Controversial opinion, but I think the very tail end of X3's climax (Logan v. Jean specifically) is strangely one of my Top 5 memorable moments from the films, despite clearly having that bland Brett Rattner watered down feel. Music was great in that part too.
Disclaimer: The rest of the film is still super meh though.

Ottman and Zimmer are the only ones putting out great comic book music now at this point. his dofp score was lit. Not gonna listen to that before i watch it but good to hear that it's dope once more.
I hear she has the most screentime too out of all the young xmen in this so yeah if you like that video it bodes well for the movie......

I should clarify. I mean best as in coolest, not best written or most involved in the plot. But yeah, he has more script lines in this.
He is....unrealised. It's like they wanted to include him in the plot but decides not to at the last minute. I don't understand why. It'd have been more powerful for him to say what he wanted to say at the climax.
It's weird, if you think about it. If Magneto is in this because he lost his family, shouldn't there be a scene where he finds out he has living family and it's a big deal?

Yeah that was a disappointing moment. It would also make a lot more sense for Erik to
betray Apocalypse after realizing he has a son on the opposite end

I know! I was expecting it. It'd have been touching for
Magneto to realise that he hasn't lost everything. And by that I don't mean his extended family (Charles, Raven, etc) but his blood family.
Psylocke and Angel's relationship.

I kind of feel like they did this to offset the backlash of her barely being in the film.

I already watched it on Friday. She has less screen time and lines than that marketing PSA Video. Singer fucked up big time. Cut all her scenes out.

y'know... shouldn't that be a major defining trait of Jubilee? That even though her powers are sort of goofy, somehow she pulls out the W anyway? She'd be like Bilbo amongst Gandalf and the Dwarves. No one expects the fuckin' Hobbit, but there it is, sneaking into the dragon's lair and wrecking house.

And she's besties with Wolverine, that has to balance it out. If nothing else, I was hoping this film would correct that.
Now you have me worried for poor Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. If you don't mind me asking, do they get any love in the movie or did we get everything from them in the trailers?
