Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

Estimated shipping in "Winter". I really don't like how iam8bit handles their releases. Just print a bunch and then announce and sell them.

To be fair, with 4 LP's, they have to do this well in advance. That's a lot of pressings they have to be dead-certain of.

But jesus, that's gonna be a pricey set. $60-$80 minimum, I'm guessing.

Video game music bubble burst or is close to that for me at this point.
Which sucks, because there is totally long-term viability to the market if it doesn't get fucked into the ground.

Why do they have to do it well in advance? To make sure they can sell enough? That's not a business, that's a Kickstarter.

For the record (no pun intended) 75 dollars is not typical pricing for a 4xLP set. This is the Cool Video Game tax turned up to 11.

Edit: The SF2 box set being 90 bucks or whatever was the same thing, but they were at least starting a new business model and also went above and beyond (perhaps kinda overboard) on their quality and printing. Not sure I'd pay that much again for a similar set, but hey.

We need someone else to come into the space of doing indie game music on vinyl tbh. They need compettiion but they don't have any so they can pull this. I say this as I have 2 albums preorderd from them and off the top of my head i dont know when either ships. :/

Data discs is great with the old stuff but we need something and someone to happen soon.

Like I feel bad for the people who wanted a PC CE for No mans sky but have to go through them for that huge ass CE instead of the nice steelbook+ artbook option PS4 gets which is done through Sony.

Hyper Light drifter CE has a code. NMS PC CE has a code. Pay in advance. YOLO

Bravewave on blast?

I edited my post to add a note about that. They were transparent about their obsessive level of control they wanted (proper remastering, getting the discs printed in Japan, the prints on the inner sleeves, etc) that the price was at least accounted for. Plus, they're a smaller operation, and it was their first outing. Willing to cut them slack, much, much less so with iam8bit considering the way they've been running things for the past year or so. This HLD set is the breaking point for me with them.

Yeah fair enough lol. I don't like iam8bit at all.

The worst part is I see more big pubs going through them in the future. A year ago we got Sony releasing their own music but iam8bit is doing uncharted 4. What if they go wit hthem in the future for more 1st party?

MS released multiple versions of Halo 5 (normal 2LP + box set) on amazon and big online stores etc. What if they go here in the future?

ugh.

Love that we're approaching box set pricing when it's not even a box set, it's just going to be the same awkward fold out slip cover Hotline Miami had.

4LP's is a lot of time occupying the presses and they probably need a really solid estimate before the commit-- especially in what will probably be a high-demand Q3/Q4 time frame for vinyl pressings. It's been discussed why some companies need to do a distanced pre-order process in this thread before, and I don't recall all the specifics exactly, but it's reasonable if they have a lot of other releases in their pipeline. Don't get me wrong, I'm not apologizing for them. I'm definitely not a huge fan of iam8bit's prices or pre-order practices either (and I've posted about such in this very thread), but it's not an out-of-the-question pre-order timeframe if they're going a bit bigger on this release.

Iam8bit do really overprice their sets and I do also worry about the lifespan of this market. It is slowly getting to the point where many games with notable OSTs are getting a vinyl release and I don't want to see thst change.

HM2 cost me a tonne back when it came out, including customs and what have you and whilst I love it, it is never with the £70-80 I paid in the end for it.

You will pay now and you will enjoy waiting for your vinyl set for months and like it.

Nah I'm out. I'll pay for street fighter when/if they reissue because the quality control seems top notch. That's basically a 100 percent price markup just because it's a video game. Literally double the price of a standard 180 gram quad vinyl.

It's not like we haven't seen a $75 (or more) 4LP release before. The Fallout 3 and The Last Of Us sets were in that price range as well and came in some pretty standard slipcovers. Those were steep as well, but at least this title isn't being marketed as super limited so I don't see why we couldn't just wait for its release date instead of paying now and waiting for Winter to come... Sounds like they'll handle this like the HM2 release if the demand is big.

As for other labels entering the indie game OST market - that'd be great. Looks like Ghost Ramp is building up a catalog of titles (and we should hear some news about release dates and details for some of those soon). Black Screen Records should have news soon as well - I'd love to seem them going for these kinds of games also.

For some comparisons, here are some the box sets/deluxe albums I own and what I paid (or for a couple that I bought second hand, the MSRP):

I Am The Center - $40

3 LPs housed in a hard box with full color print sleeves.

Mastodon - Remission anniversary edition - $40

2 LPs, hard box, art prints, full color photo book, CD

Star Wars Ultimate Vinyl Box Set - $180

12 (!!!!!) LPs, 6 gatefolds (!!!!!!!!!), full color prints

GZA - Liquid Swords Chess Box Edition - $25

2LPs, vinyl sticker sheet, unique padded box, chess pieces (pretty cheapo, but hey)

Dead Can Dance - Live 2012 - $40 (MSRP)

3 LPs, hard box, art print sleeves, lithograph collection

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - $30

3 LPs, triple gatefold, prints

Danny Brown - Old deluxe set - $40

4 LPs, box

75 bucks is a ludicrous ask for a 4xLP gatefold, cool video game soundtrack or not.

$75? What a scam.

And yet, I don't know if I can turn away more Disasterpiece on vinyl.

I just paid $15 for a brand new three LP album, by the way.

Did anyone here get to successfully cancel their iam8bit No Man's Sky order after the Laced 4LP set was announced? I sent them an email about it and haven't heard back. I remember a few people waiting for a while here, so I'm wondering how long it took them to get around to doing it.

I did after four emails over two weeks, they simply replied that they were busy- but my return was eventually processed.

I would pay $50 for a x4 LP..but $75 is absurd and way over priced. Like I've mentioned before, I put out a double LP and we sell it for $25 and make a good chunk of change out of it.

Shipping makes the already ridiculous price even harder to swallow, yeah. As much as I would LOVE the HLD soundtrack on vinyl, I can't support this.

Oxenfree 2LP for 35$ at your favourite online game music vinyl store - http://store.iam8bit.com/collections/oxenfree/products/oxenfree-2xlp

God, iam8bit has a virtual monopoly (almost) at this point. I would welcome some more vinyl sources for game OST's at this point. The pot needs stirring and less wallet-suckers competing. The sad thing is, we may not know how good we have it at the moment, because I'm fearing how badly Mondo is going to milk their Konami-licensed vinyls. I'm particularly thinking of the NES Castlevania titles. Throwing the NES Castlevania 1 OST on 1 single LP seems like a LOT of stretching out. They could likely do full soundtracks of CV1 and 2 on one LP or do a 3 LP set of CV1-4.

Just don't fuck us on that Silent Hill series, Mondo!

I'm not super into a lot of these Vinyl Releases to be honest. All the new soundtracks are more moody, ethereal and less Melody based like classic games. The release of Classic Sega game OSTs like Hang On and Shinobi 3 are fucking fantastic. But I hope they get chances to release the more rocking, melody based games.. like a soundtrack by Virt. Like the music to Oxenfree, is great and fits the game. But I can't see myself cooking while blasting this on vinyl.

"I hope more video game soundtracks get vinyl releases" *finger slowly lowers on monkey paw*

Harsh but true, and deserved. I don't think I've ever witnessed such quick inflation in a small market but then again I usually avoid any "collectible" as much as possible. I think the last time I dealt with something similar was the release of Dangermouse & Sparklehorse's Dark Night of the Soul?

At least these outfits are making it very easy for me to spend my money elsewhere. There's always incredible jazz and funk albums to buy for 15-20$- always.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse please

Whatever you guys did to wish the Hyper Light Drifter vinyl into existence, can you do it with a Dark Souls set? I wouldn't even care if it was iam8bit, I just really really want it.

Gotta use Xander's monkey paw. Ask for decent prices too. I'd love to have the Bloodborne OST on vinyl while we're at it.

I pitched the idea to my (now former) Music On Vinyl contact a while back since they seem to have some ties with Sony, but I'm not sure to what degree they are in touch with Sony... or if it's at all feasible for them to get the license for these. But yeah, it would be cool regardless of who'd be releasing them.
