Game soundtracks that are forever burned into your DNA

Shadow of the Colossus for sure. It came out during my transition from childhood to adolescence, which is memorable for good and bad reasons. But I absolutely loved the soundtrack and the presentation of the game. It just became a representation in my mind of that time for me.

The use of reverb gives a feeling of vastness and open space, but also loneliness. It reminds me of spending times in the Rocky mountains as a kid. The landscapes are very similar to SOTC and anytime I hear the soundtrack my mind instantly goes back there.

Damn there are some GREAT answers in this thread.

My answer will be entirely unsurprising, but basically every mainline Mario game's soundtrack is constantly stuck in my head. Right now it's Yoshi's Island.

There are lots of soundtracks I'm nostalgic for when I hear them, but few for which I can call to mind individual songs at will. Ocarina of Time is a clear exception in large part because the music was a game mechanic as much as it was background/mood setting.

EDIT: Oh, and Chrono Trigger for some reason. That game's score is awesome.

"The Opened Way": it's the tune that starts when you get on the Colossus and figure out the puzzle... the orchestra sings out glory and revelation and light and blood.

Quite a simplistic theme, but one that has stuck with me for a long time. I was really sad when the villages died in Alundra. Theme perfectly fits.

Hard to pick my favourite theme from the Resident Evil games, but this is probably it.

I think Silent Hill 2 has the best music in the series, but them theme from the original game is top of my list.

How does this sound so good on the Amiga?

SNES SoulBlazer has loads of stupidly funky basslines I'll never forget. It's hard to pick a favourite

When System Shock recaps at the end of System Shock 2 and this music came back, my jaw hit the floor. I was so sad this didn't make it into the SS1 remake!

RULES OF NATURE!

Also, lots and lots of Megaman, Need for Speed Undegroud, Midnight Club 3, some Tony Hawks, Crazy Taxi, Ikaruga, Donkey Kong Country, some Metroid, lots of Sonic, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Metal Slug 1-3, Okami, Devil May Cry 5, Clair Obscur, Doom 2016

Those are on top of my head right now
