Boo-hoo! Seriously, man -- what did you expect?

I was the biggest Bret Hart fan between 1994 (when I started getting into WWF) through his retirement. I hated Shawn, and I was there live at WM12 when Shawn beat Bret in the Iron Man match. Do you remember his entrance? He was right above my head when he started flying down! It's like he spit in my Bret Hart loving face!

I didn't become an HBK fan until his 2nd career 2002-2010. Maybe it was nostalgia for 90s WWF since he was one of the last guys left from that era. While Triple H kept trying to force his WM moment by burying Booker T and Jericho, Shawn just continued to steal the show by just putting on the best damn match that night, or tried to. Say all you will about Shawn, but he never puts on a "Raw match" when he hits that WM stage.

Why did retiring (not story-wise!)?

He turns 45 this year, his body is banged to hell and wants to spend more time at home with his family.

Plus he has the money to retire (don't listen to that storyline!)

Shawn is definitely in my top 3 alongside The Rock and The Undertaker. Quick question....What was the event where he shot down to the ring from the rafters? I'm pretty sure it was a Wrestlemania but I can't remember which one. I was searching Youtube links and came up with nothing so far except a whole lot of HBK nostalgia. The good ol' days....

I think that's when he faced Bret for the title and won

1) HAve I asked you about your tag before?
2)I don't get why people have to choose between Bret and Shawn, I was a huge fan of both guy's work (As long as you assume Bret's career ended in Montreal and ignore his WCW tenure)
3)Gosh, I feel old I can remember Shawn Michaels from the Rockers, him tossing Jannety through the barbershop window is one of my earlier wrestling memories.

I don't even know where my tag came from!

And I was 10 years old when I started watching, you choose sides! Nintendo or Sega, Bret or Shawn, 2pac or Biggie!

If you were 10 in 94, hmm makes you slightly older than me, always thought were younger.

And not that I picked sides, but Sega, Shawn and Biggie... easy.:lol

Though Bret sure knew how to take a beating. Watching the Raws when they announced the Ironman match and before that Bret got beat up by Diesel, Bulldog, Taker and Diesel in back to back PPVs. :lol

I went to WM12 too, and I still say Bret's pop was louder than Shawn's.

But I went there for the ULTIMATE COMEBACK. (/v\)

Also for two jackknives on the Undertaker.

Wow thats awesome dude.

You still a Bret Hart fan though?

Metallica or Megadeth!

Anyway I was Sega, Bret, 2Pac and Metallica!

Now I love em all!

I've been a Shawn Michaels fan for as long as I can remember. When the Stone Cold/HBK feud was going on, I stuck with my main man, HBK when most others switched because Stone Cold was so bad ass. I still, to this day, dislike Stone Cold for beating HBK at Wrestlemania. Even if it is an irrational hatred. Shawn Michaels was truly the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Sorry, Brett. He out-wrestled and out-mic-ed the entire card most every time he was on the show. Even later in his career when guys half his age were wrestling on the card.

Goodbye HBK, you did not go quietly into that good night and you're the better wrestler for it.

I remember in 4th grade my mom bought me an ultimate warrior folder and a hulk hogan folder. Still bitter about WM 6 I threw the ultimate warrior folder away and did my best to help spread the "ultimate warrior is dead" rumor around the playground.

The Rockers were my favorite tag team of all time and one of the reasons I never liked WCW early on - they had a team called the Rock N Roll Express that I always felt seemed like an inferior "aka sega genesis version" knockoff of the real thing.

Shit man, I was so busy last night that I completely forgot about Wrestlemania XXVI.

I didn't read any of the spoilers or pre-event assumptions, but that's honestly because I've been totally out of the loop for so long... :(

Well, since I saw the promo was Streak vs. Career, I totally knew that Taker would never give up his streak so it would be Shawn taking the L for sure, sucks man...

I don't have the time to write down how much of a fan I am of the guy, heel or not - all I know is whenever I watch him troll Canada, I STILL get goosebumps whenever I hear that crowd literally lift the roof off when Bret's music hit - fucking hell, you'll never hear a crowd reaction like that EVER again - I think it's still the loudest to this date, I used to remember two others that came close, but I'd have to sit and think about that to remember now...

Dude is one of the last many reasons why I love the WWF/WWE, sad to see him go, but practically everyone else was gone, and he was one of the handful left, glad to see him be able to walk out into retirement though.

Gonna watch WMXXVI either tonight or tomorrow night.

And with him gone I can finally stop turning WWE on every few months or so. It sucks that he lost a good chunk of his prime with the back injury. No one was a better heel back then.

Tell me a lie...

Oh man that was one of my favorite matches with him.

I remember he superkicked someone on the other team, and he walks over to Triple h, who is that guy? Was he in the match? :lol

DM's second favorite wrestler is Alex Wright.

I remember when I went to the Raw 15th anniversary, and they had Marty Janetty there, all the little kids near me were confused who he was.

"He use to be Shawn Michaels' tag team partner." Their reply was "Shawn Michaels was in a tag team?"

Damn. I haven't watched wrestling in over a decade but it's sad to see a true legend move on.

Hopefully this won't deter wrestling-GAF randomly throwing in a HBK gif or two throughout the threads :lol

I honestly believed the streak was over, as it seems less important than Shawn career.. but anyway, i wasn't able to feel emotional at the end, cause... Rick Flair killed the "ending career" concept:lol

Never liked Michaels. I remember always rooting for his opponent in all of his feud, even for Tatanka haha! To me, Michaels is an great wrestler, a awesome storyteller in the ring, but one bad character/unlikeable guy (face or heel). Boy-Toy? Sexy Boy? Religious? All crap. I must be the only one that always hated DX. Their forced humor and stupidity appealing to the child... major sigh... The day DX reunited was the last time I watched the WWE...

Everybody knows that this will not be his last time, they always come back...

Last night typified HBK, simply awesome. Brilliant storytelling, exciting offense, amazing selling and outstanding in ring psychology.

One of the greatest ever.

The One and Only: Mr. Wrestlemania.
Thank you Shawn.

Shawn Michaels is not breaking any hearts anymore, and is nowhere near being a kid again. Time to hang up the chaps already. PEACE.

Great thread. I must profess my love for HBK!

I was a Rockers fan when I started watching wrestling on VHS tapes rented from the local video store, then a friend of my family got Sky and started taping live PPV's for my brother and I.

The first such event was the Royal Rumble 1992. HBK had just thrown Marty Jannetty through the barbershop window 2 weeks earlier, so they showed the footage. This is the moment that Shawn Michaels became my favourite wrestler in the whole world. I was 5.

His performance in the Rumble that night was exciting, his performance every night from that moment on was the highlight of every WWE show I watched. At some point around 1995 I stopped watching wrestling completely. I started watching again at the tail end of 1998, and I was disappointed to find out that Shawn had hurt his back and couldn't wrestle anymore.

I found tapes of his best matches from the years I'd missed, and re-watched the classic tapes I had. Shawn would show up and do things, and I'd hope he'd get back in the ring, but he didn't. Not for 4 and a half years.

That match from that night, Summerslam 2002, is my favourite match of all time. Was he really going to wrestle? Could he do the things he used to do? Would he even get close to being the wrestler I remembered? All those questions were answered in a way that can't be described. That match is perfect. The greatest mark out moment in wrestling history is when Shawn does the kip-up after being beat down by HHH with a steel chair, for about 10 minutes. Such a well told story, such a crazy atmosphere, it was a moment that I'll never forget.

And as others have said, he was better in the ring and on the mic in his 40's than all the guys on the roster. He and The Undertaker proved it again last night. I look forward to any cameos he makes in the future, or any 1-off promotional matches he does.

1 more match, Shawn. Wrestlemania 30 or something.

When you take all things into consideration Shawn Michaels is hands down the greatest wrestling / sports entertainer (whatever you want to call it) of all time.

A lot of people were good in-ring like Bret Hart and Chris Benoit, and a lot of people were horrible in-ring but had a lot of charisma like Hulk Hogan, but Shawn Michaels had it all. His in-ring ability, his charisma, his mic skills, his innovation whether it be in-ring or storytelling or whatever, his dedication and passion for the business, and his unrivaled ability to pull a great match out of anyone. Even in his 40s he still stole the show from people half his age. In the words of Vince McMahon he "has no peers" because he is just on another level.

Its pretty sad to see him go, for the last 5 or so years I kept hoping that he'd get one more title run even if it was short lived. It will always feel like a part of WWE is missing for me now.

Shawn Michaels is my favorite wrestler, sad to see him finally retire.
My friend was a huge HHH fan so we always had fun on the N64 games trying to make a new DX combo with our create a characters with their entrances :lol

I would also include Kurt Angle on the list of wrestlers who were terrific in-ring and on the mic. Jericho is also worthy.

Also, we should post the original sexy boy

Even Bill Simmons got in on this

Good luck to Shawn Michaels: a truly phenomenal wrestler, athlete and performer. Great final speech. I really enjoyed it.

He makes me feel like I'm on cloud nine

Wow, shawn's leaving? That's actually sad. I don't watch wrestling anymore--can't stand it. Hate it, actually, but back in my preteens and teenage years I would watch it religiously, and I always enjoyed shawn. He is the last of the greats still in the business. Well, minus Undertaker, but that dude shoulda been gone long ago, 'cause he's just too fucking old and irrelevant. :lol Wish I caught shawn's last match :(

WWE has been run into the ground. I miss the Attitude era. :[
Indeed. I quit watching wrestling the day Shawn Michaels retired after his match with Stone Cold. Watched a few times again when i heard he had returned only to find it wasn't the Shawn I knew and to this day haven't really watched any wrestling.

Regardless, that attitude era has a big chunk of my life. That was the best period for wrestling bar none. I don't know who they have writing the storylines now but ever since Stephanie Mcmahon took over as creative director it has all been complete shit. I heard they even have Freddie Prinze Jr. writing their stuff. Aside from all that, I suppose the biggest reason the quality turned to shit was the lack of serious competition from a rival organization like they had with WCW during the attitude era.

Either way, I have never seen a wrestling performer more entertaining than Shawn Michaels.
