I'm happy with the MS conference, not exactly wow but showed what they needed to. Forza looked amazing, I might actually buy it this year. Gears looked more promising and ReCore was interesting.

As someone who's started to make the investment in a new PC build the MS conference was quite solid. As an XB1 owner, I feel like I no longer need to own the console or consider its upgrades.

We Happy Few, Forza Horizon 3, and Sea of Thieves were big standouts. Everything else fell flat for me.

Overall, pretty decent!

Games - didn't I see everything last year? Nothing new, as far as I could tell.

Scorpio announcement - most interesting part. I'm not sold, personally, but it's a good move in the right direction for MS. They learned their lesson from the last bungle and are focused where they should be. Now they just need more games that appeal to me.

Games: C-
Scorpio announcement: B+
Overall: B-

I think Microsoft needs to think long and hard about their insistence on contracting out work, instead of building up teams internally. The quality has been moving in the wrong direction IMO, and while it's nice to be able to cut ties without too much of an investment if things don't work out - the quality of their portfolio has taken a massive hit. Microsoft used to have a really positive ratio of good:bad as far as 2nd/3rd party titles are concerned, but I think that's beginning to become less and less true. I don't know if it's just a string of bad luck, lack of oversight, giving the developers too much freedom - but I don't think they're getting a worthwhile return on investment at this point. Pretty surprising considering the wave of titles released under their publishing umbrella during the prime years of the 360.

I'm really excited to be able to play Gears 4 on PC and I like the initiative of bringing key Xbox games to Windows 10, but aside from the Gears announcement and Scorpio, the conference just felt very underwhelming.

We Happy Few looked great though, and i'm excited to play Inside on July 7th or whenever it hits Steam.

Finally got to watch it, felt pretty flat. Have a beefy PC and glad those games are coming over and even then feel they had a poor showing. I really like the way they are going with the ecosystem though. Have a base and everything is back compatible moving forward. Hmm that sounds a lot like another ecosystem...

I do like that the majority of the games showed, we will be able to play soon. Of the major games they showed only HW 2, Sea of Thieves and Scalebound are for next year. I'm happy with the current lineup but I do hope next year they go guns blazing.

Well after watching both Sony and MS conferences, I prefer the later. At least I got to know when I can play most of the games showed...

Forza Horizon was the best thing shown at MS pressed by far.

Once again MS proves they are bad at showing of demos of their games.

Agreed.

The games MS shown are not bad games (they look like they have the potential of being great)...they just sorta sucked this year at presenting the potential of these games. For example, SoT looked great but the commentary sorta killed the presentation. They should of had someone talk about the game.

ScaleBound, same thing should of shown off more of the world and the type of things you will see while roaming around, give more depth about some of the mechanics and features of the game besides the co-op and dragon. There was very little info provided.

Forza had the best showing and it looks absolutely beautiful and great. No fears about this game, but the others? because of how they were presented they come off as looking w/e.

okay /end rant.

gears of war 4
dead rising 4
recore
forza horizon 3
state of decay 2

I'm done, best games comming THIS year

Good, not great. Missed the cool intro they had last year.

No huge BC moment either, which was missed.

Hardware stuff was good.

Can't wait to play Sea of Thieves! Halo Wars trailer got me too.

The whole ecosystem stuff is really good, and neat, but I didn't feel like it needed as much time spent on it.

Not MS fault, but sad so much came out ahead of time. Though even being at the conference I could tell a lot of people were still surprised.

I like the play anywhere initiative. I've been waiting for something like that since the introduction of the Windows Store.

I don't mind the store, but I wont be buying games from it if there is a Steam version like Rise of Tomb Raider. Steam is a much richer gaming platform with Trading cards, workshop etc.

If the title is cross-buy though I would definately buy the Win Store version over Steam. WinStore Library sharing is much more relaxed than Steam.

I definitely feel like the MS conference was the better one. It's games that I'll actually get to play this year. I can't wait to play FH3 and DR4. Those are probably my most hyped games this year. Almost forgot We Happy Few comes out next month too. This is gonna be a good, and expensive, year. :D

Just caught up on Sony's conference. Pretty excellent.

It's becoming apparent that Microsoft is hurting right now in terms of internal studios.

We may not see all of Sony's announced games hit the market for a few years lol, but at least they have the internal studios to work on games other than the same franchise over and over.

Really think Microsoft has made a serious mistake by having studios that only work on one franchise.

That being said, day one on dead rising 4 and Gears 4. Need to see more of FH3, I got bored of FH2 really fast.

Hope we see crackdown sooner rather than later and day one on the Scorpio.

Not a bad show for them. Pretty slick overall. Just didn't have enough games that interested me, and luckily the ones that did, they're W10. Like the new Slim, glad to see they talked about the Scorpio.

So, where does this leave us for gamescom?

Is there a GC press conference confirmed?

I hope it'll be E3 part 2 like last year.

I was impressed with Microsoft's conference. I think when I get my paycheque next week I'm going to pre-order the 2TB Xbox One S, there's a bunch of Xbox games I've been wanting to experience for a while now, and I've always preferred the Xbox One's controller over the Dualshock 4.

I agree with this. Sony have the muscle of all those internal studios to keep a solid stream of exclusive first-party titles going, whereas Microsoft are more limited - though I would submit that generally speaking, Microsoft's exclusives are a little less hit-and-miss than Sony's.

Ok guys, I have a little question, but as it could lead to list wars and other nonsense I prefer asking it in the two big conference topics:

Could some kind soul lists me what titles in the MS show are exclusive to the Xbox One / PC ?

Just wanting to have a clearer picture of what each manufacturer has under its belt, nothing more.

Some thoughts a day after.

Content wise, it was an average Microsoft conference. Some interesting games here and there, some boring and draging portions here and there. Nothing too exciting, nothing too bad.

Messaging wise, it felt like the funeral of Xbox as a console. With everything coming to PC and Project Scorpio officially announced to launch next year, what's even the point of Xbox One anymore?! I did not have much intention of getting an Xbox One for myself, but the conference just reaffirmed that I will never get one, and if I had one, I'd sell it as fast as possible. Without a drastic pricedrop ($/€199), I expect Xbox One sales to completely tank for the next 16-18 months.

Project Scorpio is an Xbox One so how is it the funeral of Xbox as a console.

Everything is coming to PC, that's how. By the time Scorpio launches in 16-18 months, Xbox as a console will be irrelevant. I don't think officially announcing Scorpio so early was a good idea.

Yeah and all the people who prefer consoles and like MS titles are going unanimously decide to start gaming on PC

Microsoft embracing PC with its Xbox titles is not a bad thing it does not doom consoles in favor of PC.

People that like PC only will now get to play games they could not.

I work on PC's for a living and I don't like PC gaming I used to but the GPU market on PC is a vicious cycle of upgrades I use my PC for work when I game I sit on my couch on my big tv and just play.

I burned out on PC gaming long ago. I have a PC fully game capable at 1080P but it's the last thing I want to do after working all day.

Expanding their user base across platforms is a good thing for all.

That's not what I'm saying. What I see is Microsoft actively moving away from console focused gaming, taking away the selling points of Xbox consoles (exclusive games) in favour of PC. Sure, there will always be people who consoles over PC, but with the rumoured Xbox-like user interface coming to Windows 10 and the already existing Steam Big Picture, the number of people moving from console gaming to PC can only go up. I don't think it's a bad move from Microsoft overall, just bad for Xbox as a console.

The one thing I didn't like about the conference? The biggest no show of all of E3.

If you have a decent gaming PC, sure, you'd have a lot less of a reason to get an Xbox, but not everyone has a gaming PC. How much will the S be, $399? It's impossible to build a PC that's comparative to the XB1 at that cost (CPU+mobo+GFX card+casing+peripherals), so MS's console is not pointless. It still works as a quick and easy way for the average consumer to get into current-gen gaming.

It was a funeral of the current Xbox One.
No new projects announced because the next round of games is being developed with Scoprio in mind and will be announced next year.
All their games available on Windows 10 so no more exclusives giving Xbox its own identity.
And then ''please wait for out next console at the end of 2017".

Imo announcing Scorpio right now and without anything in their hands besides a few key target specs was a mistake and infact I didn't believe they would do it.
They should have focused on the Slim and selling the Xbox One this year, then next February make a special event to introduce the next gen console properly like Sony did with the PS4, followed by a E3 with many games and a few exclusives to give people a reason to buy this box.

Slowly going through the 3 console makers conferences, and I just finished this one and I gotta say its the best by a mile. Extremely diverse lineup of games, and then the MEGATON that is Scorpio. Fav things;

-Forza Horizon 3 ( The closest we can get to a Burnout game)
-Halo Wars 2
-Custom controller colors (reminds me of N64 days)
-Sea of THeives

Only thing missing was Sunset Overdrive 2 to make this unstoppable.
