LOVE LOVE LOVE the more naturalistic approach to the world. Doesn't feel artificial in the way most other Zelda overworlds feel (with the big exception being Wind Waker). I mean I love Zelda plenty, but I vastly prefer this.

I really enjoy how open it is so far and all the unique ways to do things. But I feel like nothing is really being accomplished and there is literally no story really being shared which is bothering me the wrong way.
We haven't even seen a single ruppee so I guess towns and shops are no longer a thing either :/

I like what Nintendo has been doing with the overworld, being able to jump and climb, and the open endedness in what you can do. But damm this game feels empty, if I played this game for a day I'd literally feel like nothing was accomplished, even if I did 10 shrines and found a super strong weapon.

edit:

I want to hear the game tho.

I mean, it's literally the starting area of the game... do you really expect to go to a town immediately at the start? I suppose because they said you can go anywhere at the start that if there are towns/villages you may be able to get to them in another part of the large world; but it doesn't seem like there's any such places in the Plateau region.

Plus, Aonuma said this area is only 1% of the world. We've barely scratched the surface. I wouldn't rule out towns/villages or ruppees.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Hope this 4 dungeon talk is false, especially with the world being this big. The open world stuff looks okay, but they've yet to show me why I'm going to keep at it. Maybe 4 dungeons you return to and chip away at over time? I'm reaching lol. But hope it's false. I play Zelda for the dungeons.

Well remember this game has a story, so if you get tired of dungeoning/shrining or whatever you can go move forward in the story, this takes a ton of ques from xenoblade

Well yes 8-10 is fine by me, I just meant in that sense that if the rumor about there being 4 major dungeons, that I would still like more bosses than 4.

In the initial reveal trailer, there was an uncleanly edited break. I'm betting there are open world bosses akin to dragons in Skyrim roaming about.

Edit: and by initial reveal trailer, I meant the trailer released today.

This has to be the worst live presentation i have seen on any E3. Previous treehouse streams were so great, now we have annoying random babbling combined with annoying random gameplay.

I couldn't disagree with you more. For me, it's a shit load more natural than all the fucking over-forced whooping and hollering shit that goes on during stage presentations. I swear if someone did a dump in the middle of the stage and walked off, some fucker would whoop. Much prefer this natural style demo.

So did Nintendo sit down and watch sequelitis or something? They are answering every problem Arin had with other 3D Zelda games. Like, all of them.

I'm hoping whoever said it was 4 dungeons is just doing that because the initial setup for the game is that you collect 4 macguffins and then there will be some more.

The zelda gameplay is a breath of fresh air compared to:

  • cgi 'gameplay'
  • scripted banter during 'live multiplayer' demos
  • trailers with zero gameplay
  • basically every other type of live gameplay they've attempted to show off at E3
  • semi competent fumbling with the controls with godmode while ignoring prompts to jump onto Titan's arm for the sixth goddamn time.

At least these presenters are very obviously enjoying the game.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with you.

This is the first treehouse in years I am sticking around for.

That was from a quick story cutscene. You can see it if you slow the YT trailer down to 0.25 speed.

He also specifically said they will be staying away from showing any story today. Just focusing on gameplay.

Any hints on a release date? It would be a shame if it won't release until NX launches which we're probably a year or more away from.

NX is in March. This is in March with NX.

Their fiscal year can't survive NX not releasing in March. That thing could be a dumpster fire and they'd still drop it in March.

About the (possible) shortage of dungeons: would people rather have 4 large and massive dungeons or say 6 or 7 medium size dungeons? Is it really more about quantity?

I'm perfectly fine with 4 dungeons if they are done right versus smaller ones that can be run through rather quickly.

Exactly. I only wish other game companies showed their games off like this.

Fuck, I wanna see how this looks on a NX. I know it's coming on Wii U, but this is a total killer app they have here.
