Nintendo's Switch 2 Treehouse Livestream Is Just a Flood of Angry Comments Shouting "DROP the PRICE"

It will?

People that bring up the olden times where game prices were high never seem to mention how there was a huge lack of competition to keep prices down . . .
In the current times, we have hundreds of games releasing every year competing for our dollars. Big difference.

Gamers will do what they always do.
Whine and cry online, then still go and buy the stuff they are upset about.

If enough people actually refuse to buy the system and games then Nintendo will be forced to adapt.
If the system and games still sell well then it just means Nintendo was right in increasing the price.

Wait a minute...Rorschack dies at the end.

Price of the device is OK, problem is those game prices. But I think part of the reason is that the new physical cartridges are probably very expensive to produce. But that doesn't explain the price hike of digital games as well.
I got one very simple explanation for you: GREED. It doesn't get much simpler than that. All these companies see how weak minded and gullible fans are that they'll keep pushing and pushing for higher prices to fatten their pockets.

Yes, those were dark times pre-internet even and basic PCs would cost thousands and barely even able to play games. Consoles were a luxury then, and a commodity now.

vote with your wallets never was so important in gaming, keep that in mind

Also, "price increase is due to tariff" is the most pathetic thing i've heard, Nintendo fans ll say anything to defend this shit, its surreal

and more other media competing for our attention.

Outrage over this stuff is wild to me. Do gamers largely not buy their own food? Even with the hikes, it's still a lower hike than any other segment of my monthly regular purchases. Good food has basically doubled. Cars are a solid 33%-50% more expensive. I can't think of anything else I purchase regularly that has gone up as little as gaming software.

I have to imagine Nintendo anticipated this reaction. I'm sure their plan is to wait and see how sales are before considering a change.

The only effective way to complain is to not reserve the console. If you're in the chat asking for the price to be lowered but you've already reserved it, well...

Having to pay for the tour thing is stupid but stateside price hikes are inevitable. America has had it good for a long time. Also MKW is $80 physical according to Keighley, not $90.

In Europe it's like $97

Here in the UK game prices have barely budged with the Switch 2, and probably won't significantly move for GTA6 as predicted. We were already paying the equivalent and have been for a while.

The console is priced ok like others have said the software is extortionate.
To be fair every nintendo console I have owned has less than 10 games in its lifespan that i buy so that's like 1 or 2 games a year for me at most.
It's a secondary console for me.

People have no issues paying $500 for a 5 year old PS5 that is bulky as fuck and also the worst of the two SKUs available.
Which one is the other? The digital one?
This is completely portable and you can also play on your home + Nintendo games. I don't see the issue, what did you expect?
It's like you haven't read the thread, at all. If you did, you would have realized that it's not hardware pricing what people have an issue with, but software pricing.

I don't. I think they're in their figurative ivory tower and thought they could rely solely on their previous goodwill to get them through this launch. I say no way. They bled the switch 1 until it was dry and the switch 2 is too little, too late and for too much.

They should have launched switch 2 back in 2023 when it was at the peak and so many other option hadn't yet come to the fore. There was no reason to wait. Their delay tactics brought them no benefit. They could have hid alongside ps5 charging 70$ for games and nobody would have bat an eyelid, cos well "Sony are doing it".

They shat the bed with this and deserve every bit of backlash they're getting. They waste their time and energy doing theme parks and movies, while fucking gouging the core gamers. Unforgivable.

The physical version of Mario Kart is $90.
Well then what I said but even MORE so, lmao. I saw digital was $80, I must've missed where physical was confirmed to be $90. But maybe my mind was just blocking it out, lmao.

I still can't believe I've seen people have no issue with this. From people suggesting to work Doordash to make extra money, and others basically saying "lol cheap people lol"

3DS was launched for US$250, and a few months later dropped to US$170. Wii U also got a price cut in a few months, from US$350 to US$300
Thing to remember is that they lowered the price because it was selling poorly. It had nothing to do with any vocal backlash. They don't give a shit what people say, only what their wallets do.

Elevating chat spam to a thread topic is something else.

Nintendo has driven yall crazy.

You can keep fighting to keep the price of new games low but you will lose eventually.

The price of the console itself is fine. You keep hoping it won't sell well, but we are gonna make AC Shadows look like Concord with this thing. It's gonna sell gangbusters and you can either set it out and be sulled up or join the fun, but you don't have the power to affect this in any way. Instead, accept it, as I have for AC Shadows. Accept that there are things that other people like that you don't like.

That's true. Sony was already gouging the UK and Europe compared to US. Many titles were already like €80 in Europe. So I guess it's just the US market that's finally feeling the shock.

I actually forgot about PS5 game prices in EU/UK because I stopped buying them at the beginning of the generation and moved over to PC and steamdeck.

Is the wheelchair game $60?70? I need to start saving
I just realized that they showed you could use the joycons to make air gestures/wave and stuff. I wonder if you can do an air fap gesture. It'd be sick to slam dunk with one hand while air fap at your opponents with the other, lmao.

Lol. It will sell fine, Nintendo will make billions and billions of dollars.
And this kind of behavior will never stop as a result. So, it's at least cool to see people saying things. Whether it does anything or not.

The only way nintendo drop the price of games is if the casuals start walking away.

Maybe there is a chance considering cost of living is still a shitshow and comrade agent krasnov making it worse with tariffs.

You misunderstand, I'm pointing out something I find funny. It's a full circle moment with a punchline.

Let's slow down and zoom out for a minute to just both look at what's happening here. You don't find it a bit funny?

Nintendo will give no fucks and sell truckloads anyway.

Not saying this is ok, its just reality.

BTW its not that it costs more, its that the currency in your pocket is worth less. Thank your politicians and central bankers for that.

If they sell the entire stock at the price they announced, then they have no reason to lower the price.

And then complain that Nintendo consoles don't compete graphically.

I see no issue with $450 for a handheld that can run Metroid Prime 4 at 4K 60FPS.

The price increase on games is another story.

I don't think it will make a difference right now, but if this keeps up…Future releases for software will be discussed with pricing in the forefront.

Again, if you don't think Nintendo is worried, you are wrong. Nintendo's website, Bestbuy, GameStop all have surveys up today about Switch2. Nintendo wants feedback. Give them your honest opinion.

Personally, i rant on here about price. I have no problem with console price. Controller prices are a little high, but i get it. Software is where we run into an issue.

If MK World is $80 without DLC, and we price DLC according to inflation we are looking at $30-$45 for DLC. Then MK World goes to $120-$125 game without tariff or tax? That seems steep to me. Now if Nintendo wants to sell everyone Mario Kart for $90 and it includes all DLC and it is free. No problem. Many will gladly pay.

This is a very interesting situation. We will see how this unfolds going forward. We may be seeing something that will fizzle out soon, or it may be something remarkable. A confluence of events that could only happen to Nintendo. Time will tell.

Once upon a time, Nintendo released their 3DS for $250. 6 months later, they eventually dropped it down to $169 due to bad sales.

I guess it can happen again. Personally, i think the price of the games should go down.

Poors.
Poors should have no say in these things. They are not the consumer base.
Consumer is always right - except poor consumer.
The price is high but it's still cheaper than inflation would be on 60$ games in last 30 years....

Can't wait to get my Ambassador Certificate on my launch unit
Was just gonna say, it worked for 3DS -- could work again here.

What if this was Nintendo's plan? To take the heat off a lack of killer first party launch titles, they make everyone more mad about the price, and then drop it so we all praise how great they are.

Don't expect any reactions from Nintendo unless they won't sell all consoles they have ready through pre-orders. And that's very unlikely.

They are saying "DROP THE PRICE" to the only company in gaming that almost never drops the price of their published games, not even after a couple of years after release, and yet they keep selling and selling, and selling millions year after year.

And when they drop, it's always in the best chances 20 euros/dollars....

The economy for many people are in the toilet right now. Every fucking company under the sun is price gouging like there is no tomorrow. They are getting insanely greedy and people are fucking fed up with it.

I have enough entertainment to tide me over for quite some time.

Bout to hole up.

But the thing is that the "poors" do have a say in this: They can simply not buy the product(s). Let the free market run its course.

The market will decide if the price is too high. If it's sold out for months then it obviously is not.

My gut tells me it will be sold out for months.

I think the price of the console is fine.

But the price of the software is absolutely fucking ridiculous...

As of right now Kirby is more expensive than GTA VI.

And BOTW is more expensive than when it launched 8 years ago.

They are also the first company to charge $80 for a game and they are the first company to charge $90 for a game.
Those prices include the base game plus the switch 2 dlc/additional features. How are people not getting that...

Every company has to price in the unpredictability of tariffs. Is that the only reason who knows, but it's a big one, and this is where Nintendo landed. They can always lower the price, but raising prices's really hard. It's why all prices are higher globally for the hardware because they need to make up for the difference if the tariffs increase even more in America because of the Trump Administration. If the trade war ends, maybe they would do a price drop, but for now, this is the world everyone lives in. Since America is their largest market, it's going to hit Nintendo especially hard and why all the other countries' prices had to rise balance that impact out. Welcome to the Trump global trade war.

Gaming is not a luxury hobby.
Yes it is.

Price of the device is OK, problem is those game prices.
Idk why the price of the device is okay compared to the software. It's weaker than the PS4 and the same price as a PS5.

Most of us here are enthusiasts and get caught up in the "well I can afford it so..." mentality. Some people forget that the mass market consumer is the mom or dad providing a way to entertain their kids. I have no idea how the market is going to shake out as prices keep climbing but I expect leaving behind the casual/mass market gamers will have a negative impact.
Isn't the average US 9th gen console owning household is bringing in 100,000 a year?

It is pretty gross. Even more so for rereleases/upgraded titles. I mean, I get that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are receiving upgrades, but to charge the price of a new game when majority of the people that care already beat it is pretty silly to me.

Important to note they're actually $10 more than they were new. They price hiked a 10 year old game.

Don't worry about that, Nintendo themselves will verify if they need or not to drop the price come launch.
Let's see if those people really want a price drop.
