Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

Yeah, what the hell Nintendo? Why aren't the first 3 out of 100 of these shrines, in the starter area, and tailored for the E3 demo not impossible to find? I want to have absolutely nothing to show after waiting in line for 2+ hours and only having 90 minutes to play!

C'mon dude

The Zelda team has issues creating a big overworld with secrets. It's not surprising that people would be worried by this.

So far the game really is blowing me away. I'm very excited for it.

BUT. I have one complaint about it, the menus look clunky! The player on stream is constantly equipping and unequipping wrong items. I'm not sure what use the gamepad has here but it feels like the action doesn't need to be paused at any moment.

I'm also already getting annoyed at the item pick up chime lol

I think we're hearing the chime so much because they're playing it on different save files for each demo. I doubt it'll get too annoying during the actual game.

I love the idea of huge boss battles on the field but everything about that rock monster was really, REALLY bland; from his character design, to his attacks everything about him screamed generic.
Which is a shame considering how unique and lively most of LoZ's takes on the more trite fantasy monsters has been.
:P

I think it's safe to assume story bosses and dungeon bosses will be much more unique than random field bosses.

I think they are suppose to be stupid, seems implied by the treehouse people.

Ah okay. One of the more dumb creatures I've ever seen then, almost feels cruel to even kill it.

I gotta say, the level of interactivity and features so far in this game far exceeds what I expected from Nintendo and a Zelda title. This is probably the Game of E3 for me.

You know that they're barely showed 1% of the landscape of the whole world.
Also we're all in love here with the gameplay, the world could be better yet but we're going to have so much fun.

Like doing bomb fishing! XD

So seriously landscape come in second for me here. Gameplay first.

Well I certainly was referring to how the world itself looks but also in OOT each area had its own distinctive gameplay flavor, and the level design usually served it very well. It was certainly much more specialized than what we're seeing here which appeals to me a little more.

I did not actually think Nintendo would allow these treescapes to make it in, and they're kind of emblematic of my issues with the game as presented so far. They don't seem to actually serve any specific gameplay purpose, except as an arena in which to carry out same type of exploration and fighting you can do at any other point in the game and maybe do some hunting.

The Lost Woods section of Zelda 1 was a maze, just like it was in OOT. In TP they had a forest section where you had to travel through with the wolf. Here it's an actual forest, which they were finally able to realize after all these years. It looks very pretty visually but at the same time I think it's a wrongheaded approach.

No, but I thought the same thing when Bill mentioned that. The comment about towns being held back from the demo because they're plot related makes me think they may be tied to a time travel or alternate reality mechanic. Like, you find the ruins of towns and visit them in the past through some technology.

Yeah, think about Kariko Village in OoT. And then consider what they might be able to do now - if the clever stuff they show off during the play through is any indicator, think what they possibly have been doing with villagers and stuff. I felt really invested in some of those characters you met in OoT. Especially in Kariko Village, and (was it?) Death Mountain, and Zora Domain. Really wanted to find out how they changed over those seven years. Even though AI - if you could even call it that - was very limited of course, it really felt like these characters were, well sort of, alive, you know. And they went even further with these mechanics in MM.

I don't think it uses the gamepad really at all, or at least not that they've said. You can play the entire game using a pro controller, so there certainly can't be any gamepad dependent features. That suggests to me that the NX probably doesn't heavily feature a 2nd screen like the Wii U does.
That's actually a good point. I'll miss the gamepad but it's clear it was too out there for many and the Wii u pro controller is a goat controller anyway.

Stuff to do. But for what? What's the need for cooking and collecting? I don't see it so far.

The need for cooking seemed pretty straightforward. You don't get hearts anymore, so you're going to need to cook in order refill hearts. On top of that, you can gain other bonuses depending on your ingredients.

Your only way of recovering health is food, and there are enemies in the first area which can 1 shot you if you don't cook food which extends you max health temporarily.

Collecting weapons and items and cooking health-restoring/-increasting food to prep yourselves for fighting a giant rock monster so that it won't take a million hits to kill and it won't one shot you? And then use the rare ores you get from it to possibly make even better equipment to prepare you for even stronger enemies you need to fight to progress the story?

Stuff like that I'm guessing.

GameXplain's analysis machine must have melted today.

They've talked for like half an hour over that 4 second clip from earlier this year. They are going to need to release like a Ken Burns multi-volume documentary to cover all the details we got today

Variety. Replayability. Fun. It's just adding to the game. If you want streamlined and run through the game, that's perfectly acceptable and you can probably skip that stuff. If you want to spend time doing nothing and just enjoying the beautiful world they've set up, these are great. Everyone wins.
