Where is Sucker Punch?

They were rumored to be developing Spiderman, Insomniac is the developer and they also made in the same period:

Sunset Overdrive (XBO)
Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
Song of the Deep (Multi)
Edge of Nowhere (VR / Oculus)
Spiderman - brand like Rockstady's Batman not just one game (PS4)

what is Sucker Punch doing?

Edit:

I'm not comparing between the studios but just giving a perspective of the period.

What is the point of listing Insomniac developed games if you're not comparing the studios. That doesn't add perspective to the question at all.

Sony Santa Monica (Sony's biggest studio of around 200+ people) worked on a new IP for 4 years after God of War 3 before it was cancelled.

It took Sony Bend 4 years before they revealed Days Gone, their New IP.

Guerrilla Games took 4 years before they revealed Horizon. They started working on it after shipping Killzone 3 in Feb 2011.

Hell, even DriveClub took 3 and a half years of dev time. And SSM's reboot of God of War has taken 2+ years just to show off a 10 minute demo.

New IPs take forever to make this gen. Sucker Punch is a relatively small studio of around 75 full time employees. Expect a reveal from them at next E3.

Hopefully they're making something colorful. All those dark and grim games really have depressed me, I need colors to feel happy when I'm playing. Multiple colors.

They might have spent some time working on a pitch for Spider-Man before it went to Insomniac

No, it was just a BS rumor from neogaf and everyone jumped on the bandwagon and went "hey, that's a neat idea! SP is making Spidey! Hell yeahhh!" Then it went from Gaf - Internet - Gaf. There was never any evidence pointing towards SP. None whatsoever. Hopes and dreams man, hopes and dreams. But at least Insomniac is making it. That I am happy about instead of wasting his potential on sucker punch.

Their new game is going to be delayed anyway, so is the way of Sony first party. So whenever it appears just add a year or two to whatever window they say.

Probably doing a "The Last of Us" type of game just like most Sony games seem to be now a days

You know, just because you and others say this over and over it's not going to make it true anymore than the "PS4 has no games" meme that people tried desperately to push.

I really wonder what their next game will be. A new infamous would be cool but I would like to see a new IP from them. Comparing it to Insomniac's development cycle isn't really fair since Sucker Punch is much smaller and they are working on only one game.

LOL good one

it could be that both insomniac and sucker punch pitched their vertical slices and Marvel ended up going with Insomniac. Sucker Punch just felt like the perfect studio to make a Spiderman game.

I dunno, but whatever they make I hope it's a hit. Sony this gen seem to be not above shutting down development studios with games with mediocre launches.

I worry for Bend and MM too tbh.

We don't need another Second Son. Let them take their time.

Down for a new IP or Sly. It's time to put inFAMOUS on the back-burner for awhile.

Disagree. Second Son felt like a great proof of concept for me - gorgeous, good acting, good mo-cap, great animations, interesting (enough) story and pretty fun mechanics - although not super varied at times.

Another attempt at it I think they could really make something great.

If the Marvel/ Sony deal is as big as it seems, most likely a superhero game.
Would Marvel really announce another console exclusive? I dont believe that and feel Spiderman is unique purely because of what Sony invested into the film series. TBH its why the whole SP Spiderman thing was plausible...

I dont think we have any clues what SP have been working on - do any of their vacancies give us an idea?

Ratchet and Clank was a remake done by a small team.
Song of the Deep is some indie-style game that isn't out and was made by a small team.
Edge of Nowhere is a VR game made by a small team and isn't out.
Spiderman is made by their largest team ever and isn't out.

So basically, Sucker Punch released Second Son and First Light while Insomniac released Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet and Clank. That's about the same output wouldn't you say?

Sucker Punch developing Iron Man...drool.

So wasting their time huh. Spider Man is the only Marvel super hero that matters. They'd be better off making another inFamous game then.

This opinion is a mistake...

Sucker Punch is working on "The Sentinel". New futuristic cyborg action-adventure. Well maybe. Pixelopus is also working on something new.

I like how everyone is glossing over this. But Verendus said a cyberpunk-esque action/adventure IP was being worked on last year. So this could be a potential candidate for SP.

I've asked someone I know who works there, and his only real response is that they don't like to reveal things too early. They probably wouldn't have even shown Second Son as soon as they did if there hadn't been a major push from Sony to bump up their launch window line-up.

Basically, don't expect to hear much until it's practically done.

I'd take it.

Yeah, just look at GT Sport. I've never felt that much emotion from watching cars race. Clearly The Last of Us influenced.

Or Gravity Rush 2. It has a story and it will probably be emotional and serious.

Or heck The Last Guardian. They didn't even try to stop the influence with the name alone.

A mess.

Insomniac is the developer and they also made in the same period...

It's just not fair to compare a game development studio to Insomniac. That crew is insane and their output is unlike any other this generation. (I'd love some insight via an interview or developer blog post that explains how this team kicks out product so quickly at this difficult time in game development, anybody?) They must never sleep ... it's literally in their name.

You'll never see them coming. That's why they're called Sucker Punch.

Heh.

BTW, not to invite comparisons again, but I would be super happy if Sucker Punch was working on a side-project, the way Insomniac has all of its DL games in addition to the big Spider-Man game. SP is a creative crew, and I'd like to see something manageable and experimental from them some time.

A remastered Rocket: Robot on Wheels would be outstanding, too. Not sure if they'd need a partner studio to develop it or what, but that game could be redone and still be well worth a play.

(Come to think of it, I'd like all AAA studios to make little $10-20 games in between releases to exercise new ideas and test tech. Kind of like Pixar makes shorts every time it releases a feature film.)

Second Son had it's problems, but I love that series. I wish they would do another one. Gotta say I do miss Cole.

They will come back to inFAMOUS. That's a given. And when they do, Cole will return. It's going to happen. They know how much people like cole, even more so than before (talking about the pre-iF2 days along with that horrible, horrible nathan drake clone) There's noooooo waaayyy he isn't going to be in the next one. No way. Zeke too.

They're iconic characters, unlike delsin and the rest of the grunge crew.

SSM helps with a ton of smaller games.

I hope we hear something soon, and I hope it's a new IP.

Hopefully they're making something colorful. All those dark and grim games really have depressed me, I need colors to feel happy when I'm playing. Multiple colors.

Bro, it's like you just came here from 2008. We have tons of colorful games these days!

So far, Sony does a good job in spreading out their major titles and not blow their load all at once (though some delays and cancellations made the begininning a bit barren in terms of PS4 exclusives). Once the major titles of this year's e3 are out, I am sure we will see the next SP game.

Sucker Punch is rebuilding after laying off 30% of their staff back in 2014 as well as replacing their art director who left a couple months ago.

Sucker Punch is a very proud developer, which can make things actually difficult. Look at what Jaime Griesemer said about them.

Jaime Griesemer said:
"One of the reasons I never worked great at Sucker Punch is they thought they knew how to do everything, and I was constantly looking for new ways to do things, and that's not always compatible."

But, they are doing a new IP. Probably won't see it until next year.

I hope a new IP. Maybe they're also doing a marvel property and that's why the leak that it would them for Spider-Man when they're actually doing Daredevil

I can see the new infamous now.

A gruff middle aged man who was given super powers decades ago struggles with the day to day moral choices of being a hero.

Also he has a wise cracking tom boy daughter who makes jokes and gets put in danger near the end of the game.
