Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

I felt like that during the end credits fight, it should have played KOBU as Ryu has now mastered the power of nothingness, maybe even during the Bison fight too

I've only seen a bit of the story but I kind of like the
light shipping
theyre giving Juri and Cammy (unless theres more I didnt see yet)...is the story mode not up for ps4 yet? I have a menu option but its grayed out. nvm found the answer. What an oversight capcom made there...

Does anyone think they do more story mode with season 2 dlc? (Extra chapters?)

Honestly I thought this was pretty bad. I'm kinda not the target audience by virtue of me getting nothing from fighting ai in fighting games, but even the story beats were dumb. Necalli and Bison both get merked out of nowhere by Ryu without any proper build up. Necalli is just some dumb, vague prophetic force that just keeps fucking with people, but never really feels like any sort of threat because everyone's too busy with the Majora Mask moons, yet last minute he becomes the key to Ryu mellowing out. And Bison's conclusion is basically Chun Li going "hey kill that dude" and Ryu going "Ok".

It felt like they accidentally created a story where Ryu wasn't the star, they went "oh shit, we forgot to make Ryu the star" and made him defeat Necalli and Bison despite none of it being earned.

That said, between his/Mika's individual story, as well the Story mode now, Zangief has suddenly become one of the best SF characters personality wise. Every time he was around was 👌👌👌👌👌. Muscle power, baby, flex on 'em.

I think it was stupid that Ryu was the one who ended Bison. Should've been Chun & Guile, considering it's personal for them and they've been hunting him in like every game. Ryu and Bison barely cared about each other in previous games (aside from that brief moment in Alpha 2)

I'm glad that Rashid got the main character treatment in this one.

Ono once said that they are considering more story content past season 1 but nothing concrete. They did confirm that their would be more content of some sorts past season 1, I think that was during a shareholder thing.

Story mode delivered I just wanted Capcom taking the piss and the game went from the start with Necalli as a sheep, then everything with Gief, Juri being pulchritudinous, Vega cracking me up because I play this game with my friend and he makes me never take Vega seriously. The Last fight was perfect because the game should always end with Ken being stupid.

It wasn't perfect, but it was quite entertaining...and it's obvious that LOTS of effort was put into it.

Compared to MKX? Well, the SF cast is overall much more interesting to me, so SF5 was better to me.

Juri and Urien stole the show. They were both bad@$$.

And, Rashid really stepped up...dare I say that he's the real protagonist of the entire story? His tale was the most touching.

Karin really stepped up, too, since Alpha 3. Pretty much everyone in the cast knows her and respects her. She has mad stroke in the SF universe, apparently.

I went into this expecting a stupid story with some entertaining moments. I was actually pleasantly surprised in the beginning, as the game starts with something of an ominous tone what with Nash's eerie dream sequence, and then we're immediately shown FANG turning someone into poison dust. But the story quickly descended into the anime silliness I had anticipated. Dumb entertainment for a few hours. I'm pretty impressed with it on a production level, it's a nice meaty mode and I actually think I like it more than MKX (but less than MK9). There are some points when the poor background textures are obvious, but there are also quite a few moments during cutscenes when it looks impressively good, mainly when it's focusing on the characters with some good lighting on them (as long as you can't see their hands too closely, lol).

I ended up really enjoying Rashid's subplot, and I liked FANG a lot as a villain. Juri was portrayed excellently. Some of the voice direction is just awful, Laura was really bad, almost every line she says is poorly delivered. A lot of the characters feel pointless too, Laura and Alex being the worst offenders. I also think it's incredibly lame that Ryu conquers the dark Hado offscreen just to show up at the end and beat Bison. But on the other hand it is nice that the splotlight was largely on the secondary characters.

When they have plans that reach further into the future than that, they won't just shut down and make another fighting game. Since they admitted that a compilation disc can happen now they can prettend a new release came out and the general public and and the average game reviewers wouldn't know the difference.
I don't think general public is interested in a SFV compilation. The ship has sailed.

Why are people saying that Ryu's win was undeserved? This is the sequel to SF1, SFA2, SFA3, SF2 and SF4. The Satsui has been a constant thing for him (retconned into SF1). It's his motivation for training in SF2, to overcome it. We know he did by SF3, and now we know how. By staying out of the story until the last minute, to focus on his training.

Charlie and Guile could have been improved on, but there was some closure. Guile got to meet him one last time and hand back the dogtags, and then both Charlie and Bison were killed again, so his story is kind of finished. It was neat how he did call him Charlie (even though everyone else is going by Nash) and it was acknowledged. But I think Charlie realized that whatever Illuminati voodoo kept him going wouldn't be forever, even before Kolin told him, so he wasn't really in the mood for a touching reunion.

And Cammy got mad closure with her story. Ever since SFA3 it has been about her finding a purpose and trying to rescue the Dolls. It was the entire point of the SF4 prequel movie. Especially Decapre who is basically her clone sister and thus the only "family" she has (except Bison as the abusive father). She already got Juni out, and by the end of the game all of the Dolls were free again (except poor März who lost everything including her umlauts). I just think they could have had the Juli fight be someone else, since Juli was pretty much rescued already - Xiayu, Jianyu and Noembelu didn't get fights. But Juli replacing Noembelu for no goddamn reason is already a thing, so...

I also think Ed is a plot waiting to happen. He could either replace Bison (in terms of gameplay) or actually be used as a vessel for his return in SF6.

NEED DOLLS DLC PACK. Can't have them all just be Story mode fodder.

Story was kinda hokey with some good moments. I was real disappointed how goofy most of the characters were especially Laura. Didn't expect her to be so damn crazy. We already have enough hyper characters like Mika and Rashid. It was a good first attempt but hopefully they improve on this in the future.

Gief is best character.

All in all the story was decently fun, but I agree with a lot of the stuff about loading and stuff--MK really stands out due to how seamless it all felt which this doesn't hold a candle to.

Some stuff like Necalli feel pretty wasted, and Laura is just the most garbage new character I could possibly imagine. She doesn't do ANYTHING compared to the presence Rashid and FANG have and the few scenes she's in are just...weird. The Sean dynamic comes off as super creepy.

Really? Really? Of every single character in the game, Laura would be the one most people *should* expect to be absolutely insane. Until now, had you not played her Character Story, read her win/lose quotes or listened to what she says in battle? I'd expect the character who says stuff like "I'll squeeze and zap zap!" during combat to be off her rocker.

Also agree that Necalli was wasted in the story. He seemed so important in the character story modes but turns out he's more of a nuisance, lol

she seemed eccentric in the 2D art but the way she's portrayed in the cinematic presentation is downright comical. She had crazy eyes.

Finished it and... Well, it's a cinematic story mode. It's okay, but not anything really great as far as the writing etc. Still, it's a step in the right direction for casuals and you can tell a lot of work went into it.

Juri and Urien stole the show when they were introduced. Other than that, i was a bit bored during the cutscenes. I did like the npc fights a lot though.

I give it a 3 out of 5 on the story itself, 5 on the gameplay which is why we play SF.

Capcom, give everyone an arcade mode and Vs CPU next and we have a package the masses can get behind.

i also wish they went with two rounds instead of one. not really sure they stuck with single round format when everyone was complaining about it with the character story modes.

Cause having a character complete their arc offscreen and away from the plot doesn't make for a very entertaining viewing experience.

Well, how would they have done it? It's been established that Ryu mostly practices alone. "Meanwhile, back at the waterfall..." *Ryu punching at water* *loading screen* *back to the actual story*

It doesn't make for the most entertaining story, but it's true to the character. Better that than making up some power of friendship thing to make him realize his potential, or having Gouken around once more. Oh, and he did seek out Dhalsim for advice before finishing his training.

What I love is that story has some serious tones but in general it just silly on all possible ways. The first chapter was kind of boring but then the game shines.
Gief is the beast, Mika and Ibuki reaction when one of the Dolls sword broken is priceless.
Was surprised that FANG turned into very entertaining villain
Karin and Rashid as main characters is a good choice, deserved.
Sadly Jury vs Vera arc is not complete, want to know how it's gonna end.
All other cast fits their roles, only Necalli was highly underused, while I don't like him as a char, Capcom could fit him into the story better/

The lack of any sort of main character in the story only solidifies how disjointed the entire experience is. The closest thing we have to a main character is Karin, but instead, the game makes it a toss up between Nash, Rashid, and Ryu.

Man, why is telling a simple story so hard these days? They don't need to shove every character in the game and give them all crappy story arcs.

Ryu shouldn't have even been in this story. He has nothing to do with what is actually going on. Save whatever bullshit he is up to for Street Fighter 6 or some spinoff.

I recently finished the story mode. It's...eh, I don't really know how to explain. I didn't think it was outright terrible, but it's not very good. There's a lot of fanservice(in more ways than one), and there's a lot of really hokey bullshit. But, whatever...it's Street Fighter; the story has never been high art.

Things I took away from the story the most:

--Juri is still great-- probably my favorite part of the story mode, for what it's worth.

--FANG was probably my second favorite part of the story. He had some moments where he really came off as a super slimy villain, as opposed to the over the top twitchy and annoying guy he was portrayed as.

--Story mode really needed more Urien. He's just kind of there.

--Necalli is a non-entity, and that's pretty disappointing. He really should be been the one to kill Bison. Sort of a "SURPRISE, BITCH! Now I'm the final boss!". He's supposed to be the Akuma of this game--the rogue element. However, he's really inconsequential to the overall plot of this story mode...whatever it was. If he and Ryu had more focus, then I feel like Necalli would have been better in the plot.

--Gief is nuts, just super over the top, he was another great part of the story mode.

--I wanted more Birdie. I wanted a scene where he leaped in to protect Karin from something, since it was kind of hinted that Karin and Birdie were an item.

--Apparently the Kanzuki ninjas are required to have princess curls. I hope Ibuki gets an alt like that. It would be silly.

--The Dolls were fun, but also really, really wacky. I couldn't believe some of their designs, especially Santamu.

--Ryu's hado powers toward the end of the story mode were some serious suspension of disbelief shit. I almost couldn't fathom what I was seeing during the climax of the Shadaloo battle.

Overall, if I play this again on hard, I'll probably just skip most of the scenes. It's good enough, but I'm not craving more.

yes because having the goddam main character not show up at all makes sense.

the whole point of these things is to have every character show up, do a thing and make their fans happy. It didn't fully do that here (Alex get gipped. Chun jobs throughout.) but the idea is there. So yes most characters will be randomly crammed in...but that is the whole idea behind FG stories.

I just watched Max beat the story mode on his stream. Nice reveal for Gill. Can't wait for him to bring back healing hype in 2017.

Juri was definitely one of the best things about the story mode. I like her here way more than in SFIV.

Story mode was such a let down. MK story mode is miles better.

1 round matches are too short on SF, long loading times, bad graphics (that clipping!) and the story didn't made any sense.

well, daily challenges are supposed to be our repeatable source of FM and they keep being pushed back. That said, just run the character stories and you'll get a nice chunk. Trials and easy survival for the rest of what's easily attainable for now.

Between story, trials and survival you can actually make back a big chunk of what you spend on a character.

To earn money through trials do you have to complete all of them for each character? I hoped it would be individually, eg 1000 for challenge #1, #2 etc
Nothing happens when I finish just one or two. Doing them all is impossible

Loved this story mode! It was a little too easy but at least there's a hard mode unlocked after the first playthrough. And omg I can't wait for Urien & Juri!!

You need to do a Character's set of Trials to earn FM. Laura's is 100% the easiest set to do. Cammy's is also pretty easy.

Yeah it only made sense if you have the context. They needed a Rocky training montage with Ryu or something

Why have the main character do absolutely nothing for 95% of this story? Also, his entire narrative arc spanning several games is resolved off screen in the most uninteresting way imaginable. Am I missing something here? How the heck is that compelling in anyway?

Also, just because fighting game stories were always terrible in the past doesn't mean they have to be now. Fighting game stories use to have an aura of mystery behind them, and that is what made them somewhat compelling. Now that Street Fighter has this cinematic story mode, it only clearly exposes how lame it all is. Seriously, this even on par with low tier anime crap. Cramming a bunch of characters in and barely developing any of them isn't interesting anymore.

I love that Capcom put in the effort to have a bunch of doll fights. A few of them feel like they could be full fledged characters. Decapre and Juli almost have full movesets. They do some cool shit in Extra Mode.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made them playable in the future. Can't be too hard right? A lot of the work is already done since they share a lot of moves with Cammy.

You may want to check this link.

That mod is neat but I still rather play the characters in story mode. Their moves are kinda broken in the mod. Hopefully they have a better version soon.

You must be playing on PS4 or a really outdated PC. Load times are nonexistant for me to the point that I was unsure if the scenes were pre-rendered or not. Totally different scenes and sets of characters were loading up back to back in a matter of seconds. I am impressed.

You must be more specific because MKX was disappointingly shorter then the first story mode they did in MK8,which was admittedly longer because it was the entire MK trilogy. I really didn't care to remember what even happened in MKX or any of those new characters.

Yeah, I don't get the loading time complaint. They were super short for me (on a kinda old PC)

It hit or miss, sometimes loading is pretty fast but sometimes it can take a minute or two to load the scene. Maybe it's more server related issue that platform

Lol the story is ass but I expected as much.

I'm curious now that story mode is out what would you guys rate the overall game? Does it feel "complete" now to some of you or are you guys waiting for more? Anyone jump into this because they finally released story mode? Game is now 2 characters away from season 1 "completion"

Bison really need to have his battle damage costume after Nash sacrifice. It's such an easy thing to fix. I have no idea why they didn't do it.

I dont know if its been mentioned already, but... Lauras story costume (bonita) was replaced with a regular bikini, was this known? Did they mention they were going to change it?

The Bonita shirt still appears in my game. I don't recall the bikini, but Laura does have a swimsuit costume coming up based on PC data mining.

PS4 version has frame rate issues and more input lags during gameplay for the new story mode. Disappointed in the quality of the performance...

On PS4 it still shows her wearing the Bonita costume. Are you on PC and have mods installed? lol

eh...it was obviously rushed. the clipping and bouncing hair was pretty bad. but i don't think too many people are gonna care about performance in single player tho. i never notice rashid's ridiculous goatee until playing SP. that shit didn't even move lol

still pretty entertaining plot. didn't end up being a complete throwaway/trainwreck. then again i think everyone lowered their expectations lol
