oh cool it emptied my cart

fuck!

i had a cart for a fucking reason, steam, jesus christ

Yeah, that happens. What I do is open each game's store page in a separate tab; this way it's easy to return to the store pages should the cart clear itself.

Elite: Dangerous?

It's definitely been on my radar. I know it's a bit hardcore when it comes to other aspects and I'm not too sure if those aspects are needed to play the game. I'm more interested in escorting ships and flying around with crew shooting stuff up than I am trading and trying to deal with economy or mining for resources and the like (I have not done a ton of research for ED though and not sure if all this applies to that game).

It doesn't necessarily have to be space either, just any sort of 6DOF type movement game.

I've been eyeing Sublevel Zero but not too sure I want to jump on it either.

Yes you should, but I didn't receive my key yet.

Wait I don't own it, PS+ lol.

I just got my first ever foil card for Camera Obscura, there is no special reason to hold onto it if I have no intention of making the badge right?

In hindsight, it feels obvious. The joy of single-player Descent was always about tumbling through space, trying to get a bead on the vicious robots trying to kill you while dodging laser fire and spoofing homing missiles. But the most tense moments--and often the most thrilling ones--were when you were down to a sliver of life, desperately trying to stay alive long enough to find a shield powerup and hoping the robots around the next corner wouldn't flay you alive. Imagine a Descent successor that distilled the single-player campaign down to the moments where your life hangs in the balance, and you have Sublevel Zero.

The biggest thing Sublevel Zero gets right is the feeling of movement. Like the official modernization of the Descent formula, Descent Underground, but unlike so many other six-degrees-of-freedom games, Sublevel Zero nails the sensation of zooming through claustrophobic mine tunnels in a zero-g fighter ship. The second biggest thing Sublevel Zero gets right, though, is in carving out its own unique identity. It's a roguelike, you see, so death is permanent. There's that desperation again, built right into the game design. Randomness is part of Sublevel Zero's DNA as well: all the levels are procedurally generated, and your arsenal of weapons is completely dependent on what you find scattered about and what you can craft. Even the nanocarts you earn at the end of a level are randomized, meaning you can never be quite sure what benefits will be open to you each time.

Because there's so much uncertainty to each run, and because you only have one life to live, improvisation is the name of the game. This helps solve one small issue with Descent's campaigns, which is that sometimes the variety of weapons feels superfluous. The bread and butter weapons like the plasma, quad lasers and vulcan/gauss were often all you needed, leaving the more exotic weapons to collect dust. In Sublevel Zero, sometimes you have no choice but to pick up that Firebolt or those grenades and figure out the best way to use them.

I've played a bunch of roguelikes in my time, but most of them never managed to click with me. Either they felt too much like the product of luck, or they required skills that I didn't really have and didn't feel like training for (hello, every platformer roguelike ever). Sublevel Zero is the first roguelike where I felt like I could reach the end even from the very beginning of the game, once I learned the patterns and remembered how to fly properly. It never once felt unfair, and even when I made dumb mistakes (ask me about my RAGEQUIT achievement) it was easy to start again and hope this run would be the one. More than any other game to date, Sublevel Zero is the inheritor to the Descent legacy. Sigtrap should be proud.

Asked this a while back but nobody replied

Galactic Civilizations III base game or should I get the deluxe bundle, which is like 26$...but it does include every DLC, I think?

Well this Steam sale didn't go as planned.

Picked up Subnautica which is awesome.

But then I grabbed Lego Jurassic Park because of the price mistake, and Bioshock 2, because I don't want to miss out on a potentially great remaster upgrade.

I'm down to $2. Thinking between...

Super House of the Dead Ninjas
Luftrausers
Downwell
One More Dungeon
Blood 2
Painkiller Hell and Damnation

Any recommendations?

How much is one finger death punch? Otherwise Downwell.

Downwell for sure.

after stardew I'm contemplating Bioshock and Bioshock 2.

Got 'em on PS3, and would prefer 'em on PS4, but for some reason I want the PC versions. Not sure about the DLC though and would rather not spend $2.50 on it. Ah, choices..

I would think it would be more fun to play Bioshock 2 with a mouse than a controller, and playing it similarly to Doom where you are constantly moving and attacking.

In retrospect, Bioshock 2 is actually the best game in the series. Will be interesting to see opinions crop up when the remaster is released.

Games bought:

Rome Total War Collection
Dead Space pack
Dishonored
STALKER pack
The War of Mine
The Longest Journey
Rise of Nations: EE

Backlog increasing xD

If you buy B1 + B2 + DLC you get remastered free on PC.

Dont think you need all three, but we dont know how much of a remaster it is so I don't know if I want to spend $8 (CDN). Can't decide either way.

I stopped playing Bioshock 2 pretty quickly. Not sure if a mouse will finally get me to beat it.

B1 is $4-something, B2 in the triple pack is only a dollar more.. so that's pretty much the only reason I'm considering it. lol

Downwell for sure.

Go for Downwell. But SHotDN is good too.

I have One Finger Death Punch. Actually
discovered a similar game during the sale, that was done with a look that was reminiscent of classic Sega Genesis game. Wish I could remember the name, but it was under $2 as well.

So, looks like I'm going to go with Downwell.
Thanks guys!

Super House of Dead Ninjas. It is awesome. You won't regret it. Out of the games that I've played on that list, I would rank them as follows.

1. Super House of Dead Ninjas.
2. Luftrausers.
3. Downwell.

There, for your convenience I even provided multiple links to the Super House of Dead Ninjas Store Page in this post.

I hate to say it but I haven't bought a single thing this sale. I just have so many games in my library that I haven't even tried out yet, and so many games that I'm actively playing right now, that it seems silly to buy anything new.

Got my summer sale badge now though, eh.

I might yet pick up the wheel tuning DLC for American Truck Simulator.....

I just bought Hard Reset, I should get the Redux version for 3 dollars more right? I heard gameplay wise it's improved.

Edit: and yes, Bioshock 2 is the best one in the trilogy.

Nice, it's definitely something I'm going to get.

For some reason I was thinking that was an MP frigate type space shooter. Definitely looks like what I want, thanks. I kept skipping it every time when I was looking.

I just got my first ever foil card for Camera Obscura, there is no special reason to hold onto it if I have no intention of making the badge right?

Not that I know of nope.

I think its been bundled 569 times recently, and is in fact in a bundle right now also?

thats what I think

It's been in 9 bundles.

Anyone have any thoughts on The Silent Age?

It's a good PnC game. It originated on mobile before getting this new Steam release that comes with Voice acting. If you like PnCs, then you're bound to like it.

https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/indie-heroes-2-bundle
It is currently in this bundle if there are any other games that interest you in it as well.

Nonstandard game over go!

Chapter 4 Mid-Boss just beat me in Disgaea. I'd been trying to even out some of my lower characters and went in woefully underlevelled. It was still close, but such is life (death.) Ah well, I know you need that game over to get all the music, so it's fine. :)

I just bought Hard Reset, I should get the Redux version for 3 dollars more right? I heard gameplay wise it's improved.

I bought the Redux for $3 from having Shadow Warrior, and it granted me both versions of Hard Reset. Original and Redux for $3.

Just mentioning in case you own Shadow Warrior. You might want to refund the original and just buy the Redux.

I played the demo for Lightning Returns on PS3 way back in the day and was intrigued by the combat system. The only JRPGs I've ever beaten were P3P and P4G and the only other I've put any amount of time into was Ni No Kuni, but that clicked with me somehow.

I'm not sure I feel like going through Lightning's whole "saga" and from what I've gathered, the story/characters aren't exactly great so my question is: am I missing much by jumping into LR? Obviously, if I like it enough to want to go back and play FFXIII and XIII-2, I'll have had some of the story spoiled but is that even likely to happen? Will I want to go back?

edit:

Oh, and another question. I'm working on building my son's first PC with him over the summer. Getting him to do chores for money, learn about savings and then going over all the components, what they do, etc. before actually buying the parts and assembling the box with him. I'm looking to get some starting games for his Steam account. He loves the Lego games so I'm grabbing some of those. Minecraft isn't on Steam (ugh) though I might get him Story Mode (he's watched his preferred YouTubers play through it already and thought it was really cool.) Other than those, I'm looking mainly for stuff we can play co-op that's all-ages or PG-13 level. (He's 10 but we allow him to go a bit above that.) I'd appreciate any help here, too.

I have pretty much picked up everything that I wanted from this sale - the only exception is actually just State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition (it only had a mere 15% discount. I will buy it when it goes lower. I am not trying to be cheap, I already own the original release and all the DLC, all of which I bought as soon as they were released).

Bought
DOOM
Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition
Wolfenstein: The New Order (I recently played through The Old Blood, looking forward to dive into the main game)
Invisible Inc. Contingency Plan
Fran Bow
Dex
Dishonored Game of the Year Edition (I bought it for the DLC, I bought the base game on release day)
Prison Architect
The Room
Legend of Grimrock 2
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma
Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes of the East
Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Pre-ordered
INSIDE
Phantom Brave

Good sale overall, I was really surprised to see Doom with a 40% discount, I only expected it to be 10% off.

They practically ignore the events of the previous games. Don't go in for story, go in for gameplay. LR is the director's waifu fetish power fantasy, so you'll do yourself good if you just ignore the plot :P

I don't have Shadow Warrior, but the original was $1.50 so it isn't an issue.

Zero Time Dilemma does an absolutely amazing thing that i can't talk about because it'd be a hardcore spoiler.

But it made me go

Thanks for this and the other threads on the Steam Summer Sale, Gaf. Over the week, I kept adding cheap games to my wishlist, and after days of research and careful consideration... I just ignored my wishlist and got Sunless Sea and Darkest Dungeon on a whim :)

LOL, well, I can't say I expected more. Am I right in thinking that the general consensus is that LR has the most refined gameplay of the three? And the port's okay, right? Any Durante fixes I need to apply?

why are there pain killers in woman's bathroom in america, according to the max payne game

They're in all the bathrooms? Don't think the gender has anything to do with it.

Well, you would need to reguarly visit both to say that with any certainty. This reminds me of Deus Ex where the game actually reprimanded the player for that.
