I think what's going to happen is that the Queen will come down to appoint May tomorrow, but gets stuck in traffic, while Gove launches a legal bid to make this a contest, but something makes May pull out and Gove loses his leadership challenge, sparking a whole new contest.

It's the only right way for this clusterfuck to end.

The Tory-lite or [insert main conservative party]-lite rhetoric is widespread all over Europe within the left wing political circles partly because of history. When we track back to the origins of labour movement the struggle was much more ideological, it was there to change the establishment of capitalist state and to liberate the workers by forming new form of governance. Even up until 70's and early 80's it was still common to hear left-wing politicians and parties state that the ultimate goal is in fact building the socialist state.

This has changed of course, partly because of increasing wealth, globalization and the end of cold war but also partly because of the success of the welfare state. Center-left parties have adopted a different approach over time: because capitalism didn't fall and could not be toppled, the aim is to accept and reform it to be more socially just. Now, this is not a new development as it basically started in late 1800's with Eduard Bernstein being one of the pivotal revisionist theorists within the movement, during most of the 20th century there was a huge debate over what is the correct path forward. It was only in the last decades when the concessionist view really took over.

Tory-lite is basically a slur used against people who have adopted these views. They're in cahoots with the establishment that they should be fighting against so to speak.

Why isn't it the other way around? Well, to put it simply they have the advantage of being viewed as the aforementioned establishment.
 
I'm hearing that the '22 is not going to nominate any other candidates, and Cameron is going to step down as soon as the Queen is available.
 
Haha, she manages to twist the knife into labour. Says that with only 25% of the parliamentary party behind her that's not enough to form a stable government so she's stepping down.

Poor poor labour. May moves in on their territory with her speech and they are left with Corbyn in a bunker still repeating sound bites on austerity that have even less relevance now than they did at the last election.
 
So with Leadsom out and "Brexit means Brexit" May uncontested to be PM, does that mean we're more or less on the fast track to Article 50 once she actually gets the position? (Will she actually wait until the new year to trigger it if her being in PM is such a safe call?)

And my God, eagle, can someone ship milliband from america. I can't take this labour party anymore. The leftist communist corbyn or the dead eyed eagle. Where is jarvis?

She's said she won't trigger it this year, I doubt that will change. Depends how informal talks go with Europe and the state of the Labour Party mind you.
 
If May effectively gets crowned like this, it really screws her over on mandate, doesn't it? Only chosen by MPs, not even members. Will a snap election be back on the cards?

No. The 1922 can nominate a candidate to contest now that May is sole contender. Don't think anyone will run, mind, so May will probably be PM as soon as the Queen is back from Scotland.

Corbyn: 177 Mps voted against me. I should still be leader!

Party members may not like comrade Corbyn, but the people do and getting rid of him will destroy the labour party for years to come. Take a look at the Tories after the fall of Maggie. The bitterness of that fall is evident for all to see, even leading to the end of the UK as we know it.
 
The only positive for me as a left winger is the Conservatives have done enough to create internal division within their party to make things interesting if times get tough.

Brexit will come back to haunt the party if it goes off the rails.
