Can someone explain the calculus involved in Trump choosing Pence as his VP? Both from his and his campaign committee's point of view? I read a few articles that claims he wanted him but then tried to replace him at the last minute but couldn't.
When I look back at McCain's choice to go with Sarah Palin, I see someone who brought nothing to the table and was only chosen in order to mitigate the notion that the GOP platform was antiwoman, as well as to appeal to religious conservatives.
With Pence, the only thing of considerable note that he was involved in was his passing of the religious freedom restoration act in Indiana. So this guy is another religious nut. Didn't the GOP do an autopsy after 2012?
