How concerned should I be that my psu isnt even listed?

I guess that all depends on what you're doing with your computer.

Unfortunately I'm the furthest thing from an expert on PCs, especially PSUs. I just jumped back into PC gaming a few weeks ago after a 6+ year break and that was on a gaming laptop. The last time I built a computer was around 10+ years ago lol. Do keep in mind that link is to another forum post, not an actual article. However the list is referenced in an actual article and they suggest not to have anything lower than a tier 2 level PSU for overclocking.

With the boost technology we see in these cards, I'd apply that rule even if you don't manually OC. However I could be entirely wrong there.

So I replaced my g3220 with a i3-4160. When I first turned the computer on, it went to boot for a few seconds, restarted, then shut down again when it started loading Windows. When I tried turning it on again, it booted up normally, and a few days later it seems to be working fine.

Anyone know why it seemed to have some trouble the first time running?

Also, is it normal for the CPU fan to rev up so high on boot before settling down again? I didn't even notice with the previous processor, but it stands out with the new one using the stock fan.

I made that exact upgrade last year. The CPU fan did the same thing with the i3, but never the Pentium. Now I'm using a low profile cooler on my 6600K, and it never does that. I have no idea why it happens only with the i3, but nothing is wrong.

Glad to hear it. Pushing that power button for the first time is always so intense, so when anything unexpected happens, I poop a little.

+1 from me as well. I've built several systems in my life, and the S340 is the best case I've ever built with. Really clever design that hides all cables easily and with a PSU enclosure and hidden HDD bay. Just great design.

One thing I would add is, if you are going to use an air cooler, buy a few extra 120mm or 140mm fans for front intake.

Finished my build. Got 4.6ghz out of my 5820k easily. Not going to try for more. The H115i was a cinch to install. The 950 pro SSD M.2 slot is ridiculously omg fast. Super happy with everything

I run into a problem with my new PC, anyone know what could be causing this?

Every time I turn on the computer, it will light up for 1-2 seconds, then immediately lose power and turn back on after a second or so. The "booting fail" error would came up after the reset, asking me to change my bios setting, if I exit the bios without changing anything, the computer will boot to window without any problem.

After that everything run smoothly, I did some benchmark using firestrike, and my score is comparable to other similar PC online. I can run any game/software for hours without running into problem.

However, if the PC goes to sleep, and I try to wake it up, the same problem will happen again. The PC will light up for a few seconds, lose power, and restart(the same boot up fail menu), then take me back to window without problem.

I saw that case and actually really liked it. But! It doesn't seem to take a cd drive on the front (unless I am mistaken?) and I actually have a a Plextor Burner I use.

No CD drive bay.

+1 for the S340. Really nice case, though I can't get the front panel audio to work for some reason. It doesn't really matter, since I use a USB DAC/Amp combo anyways.

Yeah, I'm about to switch my air cooler (D15) out for a water cooler (Kraken X61). This is my situation:

The motherboard only has x16 on the top and third slots. The top slot has maybe 2mm clearance from the cooler and the fan clips would touch the GPU, so I have a little non-conductive silicone rubber mat in there in the mean time to avoid any accidental damage. Looking forward to a cleaner look!

Hi PC GAF, I'm having an issue with my PC. I built it in 2014 using some new parts and some I had left over from a prebuilt PC I had purchased a year or so before. My specs:

CPU - i7-3770 @ 3.4 Ghz
RAM - 12GB; I don't know the manufacturer as the two sticks came with my prebuilt PC and they're some no-name brand
Motherboard - Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155
Graphics - Intel HD 4000; previously MSI R9 270 2GB
PSU - Corsair CS750M 750 watts
Case - Corsair Air 540
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB
OS - Windows 10 64-bit

Basically for the past two months I had a problem where I turning on my PC would sometimes result in a black screen. I would be unable to log in to my PC as the screen would remain black no matter what (I could not even boot into BiOS). I had assumed at the time that the problem was with my graphics card (R9 270 2GB), as it had been giving me problems for a few months. I removed the graphics card and my PC now seemed to work fine. While attempting to solve the problem I had received a CPU voltage error upon booting my PC, but as it had only occurred once I assumed it was just due to the troubleshooting.

The black screen became rare, but it would crop up from time to time. I would usually unplug my PC and leave it powered down until it started working again. Last night I went to turn on my PC and once again received a voltage error. I was able to boot to UEFI BiOS, which showed the voltage error, and them I was able to reach the Windows log in page, but I decided to restart the computer as I was not sure if the voltage error was persisting and didn't want to fry anything. I hit restart and I was once again greeted with the black screen error. I attempted my usual troubleshooting routine, and now nearly 24 hours later I still have the issue.

I am assuming it is either the PSU or the motherboard, but I am not sure which part. I know the following:

- It is not the HDMI cable as I have swapped out cables while troubleshooting and had the same issue
- Whenever the black screen happens the light on the front of my case turns off
- Connections from my PSU to motherboard are secure
- My motherboard does not make any beeps upon startup, nor are there any abnormal lights on the board
- My PSU is a bit dusty and I plan to clean it
- I do not have an alternate motherboard or PSU to troubleshoot with

Is it likely that I have a faulty PSU? Thanks!

Gpu and psu are both new. Only reason i got the psu was because the 1080 i got needed two 8pin power connections and my previous psu only had one pair of six pin connections. I didn't feel good about using cable adapters for the second 8pin connection.

Did you try clearing the cmos with the jumper on the board?

Also 12 gb is a weird amount on ram, as far as I know 6 GB sticks don't exist.

Not yet, it had crossed my mind but I wasn't sure if it would help. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.


Edit: it's one 4GB stick and one 8GB stick. I've been planning to upgrade to a proper 16GB setup.

No, no need. Unless you really want to use your own paste. The paste on the Kraken's is pretty good.

Update: I was still awake so I decided to try clearing the CMOS and that didn't fix it.

USB 3.0 front panels work for me, but I had severe stability issues. Updating to the latest bios version helped.

I use MSI afterburner, it needs to be on startup and the option "enable OC on startup" to be ticked. Probably similar in EVGA Precision X. If this is a GTX 9 series card you can do a bios mod to get around this.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to do a bit of testing to see if it does indeed need to be running at start up or not. I can just easily run the benchmark again and see if it matches my pre or post OC tweaks. I don't have a problem with it running at start up, but if it's not necessary then that's great.

Edit: Thinking about it - there's a version of Precision X on Steam, so I can't imagine that runs at start up unless it can bypass the Steam interface? Hmm. Will have a further look.

I unplugged all my fans -- including the CPU fan -- and the rattling still persisted. The only other component that can rattle is the PSU fan. The PSU fan also blows directly into the bottom of my motherboard, so there are no cables there...

Do you have HDDs? Maybe it's resonance. Test by shutting the PC down and unplug a HDD. See if the problem goes away. Repeat till all drives unplugged.

Have you tried moving the usb connectors to another slot on the MB? If yes, it could be one of the front panel connection is bad.

Front panel case connector only works in one slot at the motherboard.

The usb slot on the MB is the one which is located in the right down corner.

How do I use my VGA monitor with this thing? I mean I refuse to settle for 1920x1200@60. I would, at least, like to be able to get 1280x2048 out of this card through some kind of VGA adapter. 2304x1440 or 2560x1600 would be ideal though.

I noticed that the DVI-D is dual link but I'm not sure if a high resolution adapter to VGA exists. I did find some DisplayPort v1.1 to VGA adapters that are supposed to be capable of 2048x1536 @ 24bit color. Assuming it will provide 2048x1280@80hz that would be OK with me. I just don't know if down-sampling is possible with the adapter. I also wonder if they will make DisplayPort 1.4 to VGA adapters and if they will provide higher resolutions.

You need to redownload your USB 3.0 drivers. I had the same thing happen to me and my ASRock Z77 board on Windows 10. Some recent update screwed the drivers for it and every single USB 3.0 port on my PC didn't work.

There is no configuration required, its plug and play.

Its up to the AMD/Nvidia drivers to handle the performance/optimistaion on a per game basis. So you have to wait for a new driver from them to support SLI/Xfire to see any significant benefit. That can be on release day or soon after. And the benefit can vary a lot per game.

Most will recommend going with with single most powerful card you can afford. This avoids other multi GPU problems like possible micro stutter, extra heat, extra power consumption, extra noise. A single GPU will give a much smoother experience overall on PC.

I think DVI D needs to be converted from digital to Analogue, ie you need an active converter for this. They are costly =(

Kraken will be installed at the front of the case, with the included 2x 140mm fans in front of the radiator (intake).

The S340 comes with two 120mm fans pre-installled: one at the rear, and one at the top (exhaust).

I’m tempted to replace the top 120mm exhaust with a 140mm, but I’m wondering if it would just be best to keep everything as is? I won’t replace the rear fan since a 140mm won’t fit (because of the motherboard).

Thoughts?

What is the rest of your PC like? the 730 (I believe) would have shipped with Haswell PCs, so you've got to have a 3.0GHz+ i5 or i7.

Assuming that is the case, you just need a new power supply (I would recommend an 80+ Gold model, specifically the Rosewill G550), graphics card, and maybe some faster/larger RAM.

Nope. Unless you're buying it used/bare or you're going for absolute silence. The stock cooler is good enough and very quiet at light-medium loads.

I'd leave it. It's always (usually) best to have more air coming in than going out.
