PS2 Appreciation & Celebration Thread, long live the King!

Guys, did anyone happen to buy Metal Slug Anthology from DealTavern through Amazon? They have it new for 50 bucks

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HTWWUU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Reason I ask is I´d like to know if it is a reprint with those newer PS2 cases and no memory card slot or if is old stock with the old PS2 cases. I know it is kinda silly to fuss over the case, but I really don´t like these new ones, would rather try and snag a used copy on ebay for a bit less.

I got Beef Bowl Simulator in the mail today.

Looks like I won't be getting a Japanese PS2 this year, oh well, there's always next year or 2018.

Just got one last December. For the ps1 library alone it opens up, you gotta get one (the prices are probably as low as they can be for now sadly).

That reminds me I never showed my import library here. Mostly fighters. Animu trash like me.

Super small PS1 Library (I have a cool game sitting at the post right now I'll share once I actually get it)

I am so getting The Rumble Fish!!! And other games you listed.

Rumble fish was for sure the dark horse on my list having only heard good things before dipping in. Glad I did. Fantastic fighter that deserves way more recognition. I just wish we got the sequel ported to consoles in some capacity.

I played the sequel the other day on DeMul. It's pretty cool and I agree, I would buy it if there ever was a console release.

Nice collection!

I am interested in picking up a Japanese ps2 as well. How does one determine if they are NTSC-J? Some ebay listings indicate they are NTSC-J but the markings on the back are in English and have FCC tags. Is that normal? Were there certain slim colors only available in NTSC-J configuration? Specific serial numbers?

*Crosses fingers for impossible ps4 psn port*

Just glanced at mine to make sure but all Japanese consoles will have a NTSC-J for sure plus all English manufacturing information. Not sure about specific serial numbers but chances are its legit listings. You could post any links if you want us to vet its credibility haha.

Good to know, thanks. I'm a complete noob to the subject which is why I was asking.

Not sure where to post this, I just bought a copy of Digital Devil Saga 2 from Amazon and I am not sure if it is legit.

I will edit with pics when I have time. Is there anything to look out for to prove its legit?

I noticed that Ntsc PS2 games don't have the shiny sony seal and the quality of the print looks questionable.

does anyone have any pictures of the game I can use as reference?

Brand-new?

The low-quality of the print is most likely because it's a late reprint with minimal costs involved.

Post a pic , i still have original game release seal at home i will compare to your picture.

I'm pretty sure that's the latest reprint.

No playstation sticker seal, no memory card holder, cheaper plastic case, cheaper print quality, etc.

Hmm, ok.

The thing that gets me is the black mark over the "www.atlus.com" It looks like it was a leftover from a photocopier, it's in the bottom right.

Cheers, though.

Hey PS2 Gaf - hoping someone here has a clue. I got a slim PS2 recently for free from my wife's coworker. It's a SCPH-70001 model. It does mostly work but I've noticed some odd behavior and I'm hoping someone can give me a hint on what the issue might be.

1. It plays CDs and CD games just fine
2. DVD games it's choosy about. It seems to me that games that are slightly scratched have a better chance of playing. Games that are in great shape or have been professionally resurfaced it doesn't always like. I've tried the same discs in my launch unit and they read fine so I know it's not the disc.
3. It also doesn't always read DVD games on the first go - I sometimes have to restart the whole system to get them to work.

I should also note that it has a 3rd party/gamestop power brick. Since it seems to function fine I doubt this is the issue but thought I'd mention it. I did clean the lens when I first got it but it's had these issues from day 1 of my ownership.

Thanks for any help!

Yeah the quality of the paper look like the reprint, but i know they reprint that game so that's probably why the quality is lower. The only different i see from the image is the paper quality.

Edit: The little atlus Mark is actually kinda weird, but everything else look legit so.

Just picked up a component cable for my PS2, and while it looks a lot better, I'm getting some weirdness. Does this look normal? These were taken with my phone so that probably doesn't help, but the open world stuff in Yakuza looks almost abstract at times. The smaller scenes and close ups on faces look good though. Not sure if this is the cable or just weird old PS2 game.

I found a CIB copy of The Guy Game at a half price books today...couldnt bring myself to buy it, even at the stupid resell price it goes for.

...I need to get the one you linked as I get white spots even at 640x480!!!

Me too. I don't know why.
After playing around with this yesterday, here's what i noticed:
- all resolutions have white spots, at first. after a few minutes on 640x480 and 800x600, white spots are gone entirely.
- cvs2 and vf4evo run at x768 for several minutes before the display eventually goes bonkers and start looking like a striped sweater.

What's your console region ? PAL or NTSC ?

I read quickly on another forum is possible it was the power of the console, gave too much power to the video output.
