Just came back from seeing it. I echo a few of the other comments I've read here, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting based on reviews but it definitely had problems. Overall it was better than BvS but not a great movie by any means. Too disjointed and feels undercooked but it was mostly enjoyable.

Margo Robbie and Will Smith did a good job with their characters. The Joker was super awkward though, I don't know why he was shoehorned into this movie. A cameo would have sufficed and then have his character fleshed out in another movie but this was a poor introduction to the character by having him pop in randomly.

Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Just saw it.

Its ok -good.

The Good
- All of the "squad" are great. Deadshot is witty and cool as most Will Smith characters are. They made Guy with Guns actually cool in a world of super shit. Harley was hit or miss at points. The crazy either hit or was just a bit too over the top in a way but I guess that fits. Others were fine but I'll get into the issues later.
- twas fun. Not dry and so self serious. But not tooooooo jokey all the time (cept a few times).
- Twas pretty. Some nice effects and shots in this film.
- I like the use of the soundtrack actually... at times.
- Action was cool.
- Viola Davis is a scary lady.

The Bad
- Shit pacing. The movie felt rushed or disjointed at times. Its pretty jarring at times.
- The romance between Flagg and Enchantress' host...was kinda weird. Felt out of place.
- Flagg himself was pretty boring and felt outmatched as a actor next to these larger than life characters.
- Harley getting the biggest of pushs at the end there is just weird.

The IDK
- Diablo's entire arc is rushed. In fact most characters don't even get a chance to shine really...which is always the issue of team stories I guess.
- The Joker. I like Leto's take on it and I think too much would have been too much since it's not his story (and lets be honest the character of the Joker tends to overpower things) but yet...the fact that if all of his scenes were cut nothing of value would have been lost is saying something.
- Rope Guy.
- so what was the mission? Was it to get Waller....or stop things.

but flaws and all I enjoyed that. It was dumb fun at the very least. Flawed editing an I am looking forward to the extended edition even if I don't think the supposed leaked list of cuts would add much. I think at the very least a better flow would vastly help things.

I get why some would hate this movie but not to the level it has been trashed so far. Its fine. Nothing special overall and yeah with the poor flow due to cuts it hurts it even more but I liked it,. More than BVS and more than some Marvel films.....

hopefully they learn from their mistakes, give us a more diverse team and give each member something cool to do...and boom a much better film.

buuuuut i doubt we get there/

Never thought I'd defend BvS but I honestly can't comprehend people liking SS over it.

BvS was trash but at least features some some interesting visuals and fight scenes. Even had an interesting WW track.

SS was a hot mess all around.

That's the thing though, Ghostbusters was equally bad with blatantly poor editing. There are more than a few things left in that movie that make no sense without further context. The big crowd dance number that was clearly supposed to be part of the film but gets awkwardly shuffled to the end credits, the reunion scene between Erin and the other Ghostbusters that isn't set up properly because she never actually leaves the team, the random ghosts from various time periods that were a holdover from when the villan had a completely different motivation, the white hair after coming out of the portal, etc.

Ah, fair enough then. I hadn't heard about that so assumed the movie didnt have much, if any, issues.

I hope we get a joker edition with like another disc and 30 minutes of Harley and Joker backstory....

There's a reason why it's called the DC Extended Universe.

The real movies are always in Extended Edition versions.

At least it was a little fun at times. BvS was the anti-fun movie. I couldn't believe when I watched it just how dour the whole thing was. Plus the way it was edited made it feel like a 2 hour trailer.

From what I saw of Letos Joker on in the cut, it was shockingly average. Like, not the worst but also not interesting. Felt like your run of the mill gangster that laughs a lot. Nothing to distinguish himself.

Here is the problem.

As an actor, you don't act a scene the same way if you know you only have two scenes, or if there's already 30 minutes of footage of your character.

There are several scenes where he stands out ( the asylum one, the brief flash back with Harley in costumes, the dialog before Harley jumps in the acme ), the others were meant to be regular scenes among many others. Trying to stand out in all of them would hurt the character.

Problem being that they kept the scenes that were somewhat relevant to the plot instead of cutting Joker out after the flash backs and maybe have him at the end.

They probably did this for Jared, so all his work isn't discarded even though it hurts his performance a lot and also ruins 90% of his work.

Joker edition PLEASE.

Wow, I really liked it. Came away very confused about the scathing reviews. Its not amazing but its a very enjoyable film. I didn't even have a problem with the editing in the beginning like I did with the BvS theatrical cut. Everyone who is on the fence, please just see it for yourselves.

Feel sad for Jared. I hope he gets another good chance soon to show more of what he can do with the Joker in another film.

Anyway i just rewatched Suicide Squad. First time I went in with all the Joker hype to then find out his scenes were actually cut to pieces so left a bit disappointed.

Second time I watched it knowing the film isn't meant to be a showpiece for him, and watched it for the squad instead and came away with a whole new appreciation for it.

With all the talk about Letos scenes getting cut, I actually had no problem with Jokers screentime. In fact he was in it more than I thought he would be. Might be because I've always expected Joker was a background character from the start.

Saw it tonight, movie was fine. Not great, not horrible. Spent a worse couple hours watching a super hero movie. Like BvS.

BvS was a 2 and half hour stranglehold. Suicide Squad was at least fun at times.

Much better movie than BvS.

Jesus Christ, what a disjointed mess. I mean, the character personalities felt good and spot on...But the motivations?! The actors got it right but the writing was abysmal... And well, everything else too. Yessssh.

Just out of curiosity, how was the reaction of the audience? Did they laugh a lot, was there clapping.

Well, that was the most plot-less movie ever. It was an okay popcorn movie, though.

Biggest surprise for me was how much I didn't like this Joker. Not a huge Leto fan cause he's such a poser. But, dude can fucking act. This white trash meth head Joker is just the fucking lamest. Absolutely the worst Joker.

Listen to this man.

Holy shit, Slipknot's real life backstory is depressing as fuck.
Parents died when he was 8
Mom hit by drunk driver
Dad drowned months later

Don't forget.

Soooo I paid $15 to see this abortion this afternoon. What. The. Fuck.

Worst film I've seen in a long time. Thank goodness Margot Robbie and Will Smith were in it.

Remember when Rope Guy illegally sold fireworks to Joe Dirt and ended up in a prison with Harley Quinn?

So everyone's talking about el diablo being a high point but he was more hilarious to me than anything. The scene
where he turned into a flaming Aztec warrior and said "Ya te chingaste buey" had me busting up in the theatre and I was the only one :/ Might be a cultural thing for me.

Saw it midday Sunday with about an 80% full theatre against my better judegment. nd lots of the humor felt flat as there wasn't very many laughs to go around. It was definitely a meh movie. Not horrible but not something I'd watch again as the constant music felt more like a challenge to see how many licensed tracks they could fit into the smallest amount of time possible. Would definitely be interested in a longer cut without all the music and scenes put back in that have been rumored. Movie wasn't good but no where near as bad as I have been reading. Main villain was definitely weak and felt like a throwaway at the end.

Hopefully they'll invest more time into the other characters in the sequel if it gets greenlit.

Lol that scene reminded me I no longer live in LA and live in Seattle now when I was the only person laughing :(

As someone who lives in California, that scene got a big laugh in my theatre and it was easily my favorite Diablo moment. Yay for diversty and it's broadening appeal! lol

Honestly, this is probably what's making sell out shows over here.

I think there was a poster awhile back in one of these threads that thought he was speaking the same language as the Enchantress and her brother. Lol

Just got back from it.

I liked it. It could have been better. I had a fun time, but there's definitely unexploited potential, and you can sorta see that the film's been "meddled" with. The pacing also needs work (develop Joker more, Flagg/June relationship more). Sometimes it felt efficient/economical. Other times, just too damned fast.

Liked:

The characters. The selected a solid set of actors to bring these characters to life. We've got some great characters like Deadshot and Harley in a fairly bog-standard summer blockbuster, which isn't a horrible thing. Even Will Smith, who I was dreading, did a good job with the material he had. I wound up really liking Deadshot. Like that he pretty much remained a jerk even while doing the right things and so on. Margot was great as Harley. I like Leto's take on Joker, harkening back to "The Crown Prince of Crime" instead of aping Ledger's anarcho-terrorist take.

I also liked the soundtrack choices (mostly). Was a bit much sometimes, but eh.

Didn't like:

Pacing needs fixing. Characters need more development. I'm not hating on the way they depict the Joker/Harley relationship necessarily but I think they should have included more of the abuse angle. I guess WB preferred going for the more genuine Bonnie-and-Clyde vibe instead of domestic abuse and mental trauma.

And honestly, would have liked more cohesive joining of the humor and events. Some of the jokes are funny, but a more even blend would be nice, but it's fine as is.

Development of June for sure. More Diablo/Boomerang/Croc/Katana. They felt quite superfluous at times, but I hope these characters get more time to shine in the inevitable sequel.

All in all, the movie's "pretty good". I had a fun time. I like the characters. It's got a nice 'fun' vibe at times, and I like following these scumbags around in a shitty situation lol.

So far: BVS Ultimate Cut > SS = MOS.

Pretty good. Best scene was the rooftop escape with the helicopter. Villain had cool powers.

Joker was underwhelming. Katana was embarrassing. Rick & Morty's "Asia face" in the flesh. Even Capt Boomerang was more fleshed out plus he had the comedy edge whilst Katana was played super-serious.

I see what people mean about the editing. Some really rough cuts plus the slow fade-out in the middle of firestarter-guy talking.

Perfect example: Don't have Waller narrating a scene about how Harley is more crazy and more fearless than the Joker when at that PRECISE SECOND Joker is fearlessly driving a car off a dock whilst Harley is panicking.

Suicide sounded like a great idea while sitting through this. Whew. What a mess of a movie. Yet, this has a 7.1 on IMDB right now for some stupid reason.

Not with Enchantress or Diablo on the team, seeing as Krptonians are notoriously weak against magic.

- And man, after seeing and hearing so many dissenting opinions on this, BvS, Ghostbusters, MoS, and just most AAA fictional movies these days, I'm just completely done with movie reviews. People are just too different, and saturated with certain material in different ways. Unless you can find one specific, trusted movie reviewer who has the closest opinion you do to most movies, it seems pointless now.

We have no idea if they are weak to magic in this universe and more importantly the characters in the universe have no idea and barely understand magic as it is. Even if we were to just go with those two, what is Deadshot, Cap Boomerang, Killer Croc, or Katana going to do? Rope guy?

Saw it yesterday and I would give it 4/10. Viola Davis, Will Smith, and Leto seemed like they were the only ones that showed up to give a good performance. I didn't like Margot's HQ because it seemed like it was just a lazy impersonation of HQ from Batman:TAS.

Find some Kryptonite:

Deadshot - shoot some kryptonite
Cap Boomerang - boomerang some kryptonite
Killer Croc - Ummm throw a really big kryptonite rock
Katana - kryptonite sword

Thought this was OK. It's not a genuinely good movie, writing is pretty thin and the pacing is off at times, but the cast and characters are diverse and likable, the plot is pretty straightforward, and there's levity and charm, which makes it a lot more watchable than BvS. Would like to see a sequel that fleshes out some of the characters and has a less generic story.

There weren't any standout scenes in SS. At least with BvS, there was the warehouse fight and the opening. SS had nothing. The action is generic as hell. Even when Deadshot has his big moment, he's just standing on a car while shooting things. The coolest thing he did was using that ricochet shot to assassinate someone, but he doesn't do anything like that afterwards.

This was my first DCEU film and I couldn't believe how bad it was. WTF are they doing? I honestly couldn't name one thing that I liked. One of the worst films I've voluntarily seen in theatres.

I agree with your first and third point but I dont think BvS was trash lol.

SS is indeed a freaking embarrassing mess.

I didnt even hear Steven Price OST because of all the cringeworthy placed songs all over the movie jeez.

BvS was the bigger disappointed for me because I wanted it to be good. I wasn't really invested in Suicide Squad and so it was easier for me to shut my brain off and just be entertained. BvS was putting me to sleep though.

Just out of curiosity, how was the reaction of the audience? Did they laugh a lot, was there clapping.

I saw it at time thats generally very quiet for movie theaters since everyone is at work and on top of that the theater is normally pretty quiet so there were only probably like 5 or 6 other people there and they were pretty silent throughout.

Film was alright, not awful but not amazing either. It doesn't feel long but comes across as a bit disjointed.

Story and direction was middle of the road. I was surprised there were no decent lines or stand out action sequences. There wasn't enough development for all the characters, only a few scenes which is a shame. Would have been nice for more interaction and learning more about them beyond just shooting stuff. The cast was good but it feels like a wasted opportunity and the villains were pants. Joker had enough scenes and Leto's performance was average.
