Saw it yesterday and thought it was bad. A shame, because I was really looking forward to it. Enjoyed the first part
when we get to know the characters
. It's all downhill from there in my opinion. Too many one liners (some of which I did enjoy, just far too many), bad pacing too. Some of the dialogue towards the end was laughable.

Saw it earlier. Like BvS, better than what the critics made it out to be, but unfortunately not as good as I was hoping it would be from the trailers. I thought it was better than the Avengers movies at least, but then again I never thought too highly of those films to begin with.

Loved some of the visual effects, though. Enchantress and Diablo were awesome.

Just watched it with a friend. She has mixed feelings, I didn't like it that much. Joker could've been been entirely cut from the movie and the plot would've remained the same.

Just saw it with a friend. Unfortunately, I've got to agree with the reviews. The movie wasn't a dumpster fire, but it was definitely a dull mess.

That said, I super loved the looks for Katana and Enchantress' form at the start of the movie. Anyone know if either character has any action figures?

Yeah, really most of the characters could have been cut from the movie and the plot would have been the same.

Seriously what was up with Enchantress's spastic movements when she was in her "not ashen" form. David Ayer had to look at that and giggle uncontrollably.

Never thought I'd defend BvS but I honestly can't comprehend people liking SS over it.

BvS was trash but at least features some some interesting visuals and fight scenes. Even had an interesting WW track.

SS was a hot mess all around.

I agree!

I was super disappointed with BvS and had a better expectation for SS after seeing the trailers.
But after the bad reviews came in, I lowered my expectations. I came in knowing that there isn't much of Joker and Batman (something I was looking forward to), the bad editing, etc... I just wanted to enjoy a fun summer movie. And even after doing all that, I still thought it's worse than BvS.
BvS was bad but it's beautifully shot, the fight is pretty entertaining and loved every Batman scene in the movie. But SS is just so empty, the fight is boring and the CG is terrible. I thought Doomsday was terrible, can't believe those shitheads are even worse than Doomsday.

yeah I hope Suicide Squad is the lowest point that these films stoop to. They would have to actually put in effort to purposely shit up their future slate of films to make it even worse honestly.

keep will smith and viola davis tho.

Saw SS last night.

Thought the movie was pretty decent and better than BVS for sure.

Movie's nowhere near incredible, but it wasn't the trainwreck that a lot of reviews made it out to be.

I saw it last night. Well, at least it was better than BvS.

I would rank the DCU as:

Suicide Squad
BvS
Man of Steel

Goddamn that is a terrible lineup so far.

Saw it last night too and wasn't impressed.

It shares some of the same problems that BvS had, especially editing and pacing. Thanks god it was shorter.

Tells you much when a movie with these full arrange of different characters, the best one was Will Smith being Will Smith. Even Harley wasn't that interesting (even though Margot was awesome). Her plot with Joker was kinda bad, and he could be erased from the movie and nothing would change.

I think Leto did OK as Joker, but I don't really like his design, especially when he's dressed like a shitty thug.

The Enchantress had a cool design (well, her first one) but
her defeat was so so stupid.

Just saw Suicide Squad few hours ago. Didn't hate it whatsoever.

The first act is a complete mess. I have no idea what the original intention was supposed to be. Felt like a Harley Quinn film with a Will Smith/RebootCop bromance.

Leto Joker wasn't bad either. There was more substance for this character than a few others, but there really wasn't a particular moment or standout action that made him unlikable.

It's better than Batman v Superman by a country mile.

Just got back from seeing it as well and my thoughts on the film mirrors yours with the exception that it was better than BvS by a tiny mile.
Glad I didn't listen to the critics on this and went to see it for myself, really enjoyed it.

saw this at a drive-in, drinking beer, hoping for a fun kinda bad movie. this was just shitty.

editing was HORRIBLE. the flashbacks just happened out of nowhere and barely gave any context to what was happening. it was as if when they asked the trailer company to edit the movie they went back to some old comps for trailers and just used those 3-second clips.

Harley Quinn was not nearly as entertaining as she should have been. it was really like being a sullen teenager eating dinner w your parents and saying "I HOPE I DIE" or something similarly juvenile to get a rise. it was like that over and over. only there wasnt the context of a nice family meal crushing your teenage spirit to make the act rebellious, it was just noise in a vacuum.

Will Smith was cool. he's a charming guy. but he's not a villain. i don't care how many times you make him say "Remember, we're the bad guys!" it's not convincing at all.

Joker was meh. maybe this movie wanted to be like Spring Breakers too much, Leto spinning the wheels w a stock gangster villain. it helped him that the rest of the movie was so boring you were glad whenever he showed up just so the screen wasn't 90% shadows but still...

Waller was cool. or she could have been cool but her character and her plan made no sense. at one point she is escaping in a helicopter and then an edit happens and the copter is crashing. they must have cut a crucial scene here cos it felt like it was missing something. oh yeah in this movie EVERYONE survives helicopter crashes unscathed.

worst bit was the ending, when they kill the witch by destroying the heart. THE HEART WALLER HAD AT THE START OF THE MOVIE. ???? and the shocking reveal that they were actually rescuing her.... made no sense at all.

damn. Batman v Superman was a shitshow, a complete ride of utter nonsense lacking any fun.

this was like they were going through the motions saying THIS IS FUN, ISNT THIS FUN? WE ARE HAVING FUN LISTEN TO THESE FUN SONGS.

lol no. i would rather watch Batman & Robin again. at least that is actually fun.

Leto was fine. I liked the psychopathic gangster persona he had. Obviously he was only in it for a short while but I liked what I saw.

Why are people expecting Heath's joker?

Movie is definitely not as bad as people say. Not the salt of the Earth either but hey, he had six weeks to write the script and no Geoff Johns...

WB really, really needs WW to be a hit with critics, fans, and general audience. Given that this is only their third (technically second) cinematic universe film, there's plenty of time to steer things in the right direction. WB just needs to get out of their own way.

I thought the movie was flawed, but fun not as disastrous as it was made out to be and definitely better than BvS. I would've preferred to have seen the original relationship dynamic between Joker and Harley and whatever other scenes were cut.

As for a rating:
2/3
7/10
3/5
C

I saw the movie for the second time unfortunately, worse the second time around. Leto was not very good as the Joker, he had the unhinged part down but he didn't feel scary (and that laugh was ROUGH). Also I wish they would have further fleshed out characters other then Deadshot, Harley, and El Diablo. Croc, Boomerang and Katana were forgotten unless needed for a punchline or a fight scene, even ignoring them completely during the
Enchantress "Wish come true" vision
scene. Editing was jarring, example was in the very beginning when the guards enter Deadshot's cell block then instantly they are at his cell, as if they had just cut out some in between walking shots. Also what the fuck was with that one scene with Amanda Waller, that seemed so out of character for Flag.

Action was fun to watch at least (the first time around)

6/10

Just got out of watching this. It is amazing to me how bad this movie is. Its unfathomable how much it failed at everything it tried to accompmish. Everything is just a mess. Horrible editing, horrible characters, horrible pacing, horrible directing...just over all horrible. I have not wanted my money back more than now. I'm just angry at myself for hoping this movie will be decent.

this movie was flawed like a frozen pizza that you dropped on the floor and lost all it's toppings and then you cooked it in the oven and realized after 18 minutes that it was cooking at 200 degrees instead of 400 but you still ate it is flawed

Saw it today. Maybe it's because of all the bad press, but didn't think it was that bad. Comparable to BvS, which I thought was mediocre. I think it was cast pretty well. They did a good job with what was given. It was cool to see different things in the DCCU. But the movie is just plodding. Terribly written. Trite story. Way too much exposition.

The bar scene really killed it for me.
I thought we'd have a nice character moment between the characters, but then they drop all this emotional backstory to try and give characters weight, and it just stops whatever momentum the movie has.

Also this might just be me, but did anyone else get Power Rangers-esque vibes off the movie at some points? Like the cannon fodder reminded me of the Putty Patrol

and then there was the endgame.

its not just you :3

the putties were one of the most unthreatening putties force i have ever seen :< and it did make some of the action sequence power ranger esque :<

See, a part of me is glad this is flopping. If it was a success, and because of it's success they decide to introduce all Justice League characters like they did in this movie... ugh, I'm out.

P.S. Post # 3333. Half Life 3 is happening.

I really wish they handled that bar scene better. It could have been an iconic moment that really gave the characters pathos, but just felt forced and unearned.

Maybe it was the best they could do given what they were working with. With how bloated the cast was, maybe it was impossible to give all the characters their moment and relationships with each other. Either way though, the bar scene felt flat to me.

Also why the hell did Katana follow them to the bar? Literally her only interaction with them at that point was pinning Boomerang guy to the world with her sword

she was thirsty ?

but yeah, i agree. it was weird. she literally havent had any bonding with them but was like suddenly.... "im with these guys, flag, bye~"

so many things were set up terribly in SS :<

The movie isn't flopping unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your POV). Ghostbusters and BFG were flops, Squad doesn't compare.

About what I expected after the reviews. It's an entertaining movie that completely falls apart when your analyse it critically. Pacing is all over the joint due to the fact that there are a bunch of fringe characters that don't really matter. The plot was just silly with all the ridiculous Enchantress shit. Boomerang and Croc were terrible characters.

Margot Robbie as Harley essentially saved the movie for me. The visual effects looked fantastic and there are definitely some very strong action scenes in there. At least half the one liners in the movie were complete flops which was surprising. I had no expectations for the Joker but the scenes he had were alright despite being completely inconsequential.

I'll still buy the blu ray for Harley and the extended cut.

Seriously what was up with Enchantress's spastic movements when she was in her "not ashen" form. David Ayer had to look at that and giggle uncontrollably.

Ha, ha. Yeah, parts of it reminded me of Ghostbusters II.

It was a very silly movie, but not in the way I think they intended. It was my most anticipated movie, and it ended up being one of the worst movies I've seen in a very long while. But the candy was good.

i was fine w this fwiw, it fit her weird character design, at least in the beginning of the movie. what i had a big problem with was her VO at the end, it was way too clean, like here is the climax and lightning is shooting everywhere and you hear her and it's just her straight vocals, no phasing, no echo, no reverb, no effects at all, just sounding like a person in a VO booth.

Another problem with this movie:

On their mission they didn't kill anyone. And none of them got killed either (aside from Slipknot...forgot if El Diablo survived).

Those aliens goofballs don't count.

How do you have a Suicide Squad movie without them killing bad guys in a blood bath??? What was David Ayer and WB thinking??

scott eastwood got blown to bits, i think. so ... he and slipknot were the real 'suicide' squad? :>

though el diablo would be likely to return, he was an aztec god of fire as he was

Saw this on Saturday... I thought BvS was okay, so I expected this to be at least palatable, but holy hell was it a mess. The intro consists of several poorly mashed together flashbacks with upbeat music that's beating you over the head with a false sense of fun and liveliness. Batman's cameos are worthless and go against the character we saw in BvS--the Batman in that movie would have simply blown the Joker and Harley to bits.
One of my biggest issues with the film is the false sense of camaraderie that it insists is being built between these villains. The film earns exactly none of it; none of the villains have any sort of chemistry, and their motivations beyond the whole bomb in the neck thing are never fleshed out despite the script's insistence that they exist. This manifests itself several times throughout the film, from Deadshot's mercy and the bar scene, but culminating in the Diablo scene where he calls the squad "his family." Their motivation to stick together is absolutely not explained in the movie, and comes completely out of left field.
The entire setup and plot make very little sense, and most of the performances ranged from subpar and uninspired (what's with Joker's laugh? Christ.) to outright bad (the Enchantress). Several of the squad members had no reason to be on the team, and the entire stated purpose of the squad (to protect innocent lives by sacrificing the lives of expendable villains) is instantly undermined by sending in an entire complement of soldiers to babysit them. Waller's motivations and plans are murky and nonsensical as well.

TL;DR: I'm not sure how this film got made, and am not sure what anyone involved was thinking. I regret spending my money and time on this movie.

I thought it made sense in that they were all weary and facing doom - who doesn't want a drink in that scenario? She was more driven by revenge than the "mission" anyway, which makes her closer to them than him.

It would have made sense if she went with Eastwood and the rest of the military, but not the bad guys she despises.

Saw it. I thought overall it was a cool movie. Nothing about it was glaringly bad imo. Were some characters underdeveloped? Sure, but that's usually par for the course imo with CBMs. I will echo that the pacing was off at times. I remember telling somebody that I feel this would work better more as a Netflix type series. Each character should've gotten their own episode to flesh then out culminating in a 2 part finale of them doing the actual mission

Anyway my main takeaway after seeing this is that I want more of it. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to interpretation. But a lot of movies recently haven't left me with that feeling so that's a plus for me I guess

7/10( a 7 isn't bad in my book. I'll definitely catch this again on blu ray)

Other thoughts

- Joker was cool. Not enough to really make a firm judgement. It'll all be about he and Batmans interactions

- wasn't a fan of Harley. She had good moments but she tried a bit too hard to be iconic Harley and fell flat imo

- will was fine

- El Diablo, I feel could be an interesting character to give a Netflix series etc too. That is if he's not truly dead

- Boomerang and katana were underused

- I could've used an actor with a bit more charisma to be Flagg

- Waller was great

Watch Breakout Kings it's practically a Suicide Squad tv show.

Leto to fans at Camp Mars allegedly:

"He was very honest about the film this weekend; his disappointment in what he’s learned of the theatrical cut; feeling sort of tricked into being apart of something that had been pitched to him very differently; thinking it would’ve been more artistic than what it became, feeling overwhelmed by the hate regarding the look and choices…"
