It was especially bad in the scene where they were showing what el diablo did in the prison.

oh, when he area of effect fireball? yeah, it was kind of cheap looking effect, but it was only shown on a monitor screen so i thought it was their way to show cctv camera effect... the one that i thought looked really bad was mostly the incubus effects, to me, he was such a terrible cgi monster >___<

She stole a purse!

but that's like ... you know, it didn't quite impact any person kind of thing... :x

Gotg was infinitely better and more entertaining but honestly that ending confrontation is pretty damn awful.

Yea dance off was a wtf momemy for sure and power of friendship disentegrator was an odd choice. At least they felt like they had been through enough to feel like they cared about each other though. Squad they just decided at some point that they were family.

I've tried rewatching MOS and BVS but I can't make it through them again.

We just got back from seeing it.

It wasnt the greatest move ever, but everyone in our viewing party enjoyed it. As usual, Im glad I never listen to GAF. Id never be allowed to like anything if I listened to this forum. :)

Seen it. I think it's pretty underrated. It's definitely better than the last two films and restored a little faith. The acting was great for a cbm. I'd suggest ignoring the critic reviews. They are way off.

Nah, a lot of the critic reviews are right on the money. The movie was bad.

The movie is decent is from the perspective of pure entertainment value (which is the main reason to watch this type of movie anyway), Margot Robbie is essentially worth the price of admission alone. Just don't think about the plot or characterisation too much otherwise the whole thing just falls apart.

Completely agree. It's not much worse than most comic-book movies out there. And if you're a DC fan or just a fan of those characters the movie delivers in spades. The circle-jerk hate bandwagon is insane though. Like, I personally didn't like Civil War but I didn't spend everyday on the forum bashing it in the CW threads trying to convince people of my opinion. Internet people are funny.

Honestly i'm not expecting a Director's cut to make the movie much better. With BvS i went from "meh" to "fuck yeah", even if i understand the problems some people have with it.

SS was a fun movie, Margot Robbie was great, would've liked a bit more of the Joker. Very messy though.

Nope. They are pretty damn spot on (the ones reviewing this as mediocre), no matter how much regular folk enjoyed it.

The fire in my loins. The itch in my crotch. The one, the only, the infamous Harley Quinn

There are certainly people who are doing what you're describing but most seem to be responding to claims that critics are all wrong and that people shouldn't listen to them. Everyone can make up their own mind after seeing it but that doesn't invalidate critics just because some people like the movie. We had people in the civil war thread trying their damndest to paint it as a poor film but I can't recall anyone trying to discredit critics because they disagreed with the consensus.

Agreed.

In fact, there are even plenty of fans of this film that say stuff like, "turn your brain off" or "superhero movies are dumb anyway" or "if you ignore the plot" when defending their enjoyment.

This doesn't invalidate what the critics say regarsing the film's serious problems, just that most people don't give a fuck, and apparently great cosplay and explosions are enough.

see i get the idea that a movie can be bad and dumb and fun. it's the reason i like a lot of cheesy 80s movies like American Ninja.

this was not fun. even the "fun scene" where they are in the bar was kind of a downer. all the one-liners were just kinda eh, like farts let out in a vacuum.

again i can turn off my mind and enjoy mindless fun. i've seen Batman & Robin multiple times and got great enjoyment out of it.

but that was fun. Squad isn't.

Just got back from the theatre, what a disjointed mess of a movie.

I'm conflicted as I would love to see another movie with Harley Quinn but for that to happen the worst worst iteration of the Joker (Mad Max version!) would undoubtably need to be included.

Also what skill set did Captain Boomerang bring that made him desirable? I don't recall his boomerangs doing anything outside of being used for knives.

boomy used it to scout the inside of the enchantress' place at the final battle

Just came back from watching it - didn't like it at all. The movie felt off, it wasn't funny and the villain just plain sucked.

WB is 0 for 2 in the DC universe, I'm hoping they can redeem themselves with Wonder Woman and Justice League. Please let those movies be good...

holy fuck this was way worse than i expected

and people were mocking me on here for thinking it was gonna be bad, lmao thats a lotta crow to be eaten

near unwatchable... holy...

I'm prepared to eat crow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the foreseeable future. The marketing was so good, even right before release. The leaks in the boat started showing up right before it came out and we got those clips of the car chase and helicopter banter...but I still wanted to believe.

Whoever was making the trailers for this movie deserves several raises. They did their job and then some.

Only issue with Civil War is that a straight up WS sequel done ala Heat with Cap vs Pantjer trying to both find Bucky would have been God tier.

But they wouldn't make 1 billion with that so right business call

Saw it today. I dunno seemed kinda average to me. Weird editing for sure. Joker reminded me of the bad guy in Jupiter Ascending. Which is not good.

Also, why was Killer Croc even in the movie? He had like 3 lines and punched maybe 2 dudes. Seems like he was just there to be there.

He just agreed to appear so he could get BET.

What is it with people saying "it wasn't the greatest movie ever"? Who on earth goes into a movie theater expecting that in the first place.

I love the hyperbole in these threads. I swear eventually it'll become "Croc is there for one second."

Meh, I have to agree. When he isn't being "a black" for a few seconds of screentime, he just sits in the background. During the end fight, the sewer he takes was right out of an epsode of Knightboat. After a brief water hug, he pops up and then takes a couple of swings through out the end, but what else can he do against magic? They ruined the scale Snyder was going for with metahumans every action having consequences, and whittled it down to machine guns and family(so unearned).

Just got back from finally seeing it. I liked it much more than I thought I would based on reviews.

For me it's at the same level as like an Ant Man or GOTG.

Better than Age of Ultron or BvS, but behind Winter Soldier and Civil War.

Waller, Harley, El Diablo, and Deashot were all solid. Joker was fine, but not amazing.

Katana was not really much of a presence, nor was Croc, but overall I thought it was solid.

Well, just coming from the theater.
All the negative reviews made for a somewhat pleasant surprise, as I didn't find the film downright horrible. Would probably have enjoyed it even more if my colleagues didn't drag me in a German Dub version *shudders*

Still miles away from any Marvel film I've seen though (I have seen neither Hulk nor Thor 2).

I'm on the side of thinking this was a very disjointed film. Editing felt very choppy and it seemed like some scenes were put in out of order (not referring to the flashbacks). I think there may be a decent movie in there, so I'd be interested in seeing Ayers original cut, even if it's not the wild and wacky trip the trailers promised. On the plus side, it was the best Ghostbusters film I've seen this year.

Late but finally seen it. It wasn't very good.

The members were all great. Harley Quinn...my god. Perfect cast and best lines. So hot aswell. Will Smith was also fantastic. He nailed it. Jai Courtney redemption? Yep. I liked him a lot. Killer Croc, I wish he was bigger, but with what they had he was also good, especially his lines.

I think these characters and actors could have made a great movie, but with this terrible plot it really wasn't that, quite the opposite actually. These guys in an Assault on Arkham type movie? That would have been much better, because their interactions were the best part about this. Them fighting generic monsters isn't exciting and it got boring by the second encounter. And the ending? What the hell, how cliche can you get. The slow motion bit was hard to watch.

The editing also left a lot to be desired, which again is why I can't fault any of the actors. The music overload in the beginning already made me scared of what was still to come. It got better (as in, there were less tracks), but it also has some really weird effects that I didn't really like, which brings us to the Joker.

I will say this: Jared Leto goes for it, but I don't think it really worked. I didn't like the whole crime boss angle to be fair and I would've prefered a more traditional version, but from what we got I was pretty lukewarm on him. There was lots of cut stuff so who knows, but this is what we got.

It was worth a watch, kind of, but won't rewatch or buy it.

Finally saw it over the weekend. This was worse than BvS. I can at least think of parts in BvS I enjoyed. This movie had no redeemable qualities. Not one part I can think of that would make me want to watch the movie again. The action scenes, the comedic moments, the exposition...all flat out terrible. I was struggling to stay awake and then I got to the final act, which is where this train wreck of a movie became an absolute abortion. And a big middle finger to whoever wrote that Croc "joke" at the end.

Kudos to the marketing team. Those trailers were so good I thought maybe this movie would at least be entertaining. Boy was I wrong. Never again. Unless WB can put out a DC movie that gets at least decent reviews, I'm done.

Saw it yesterday. Had pretty low expectations due to the reviews but I'm able to enjoy movies despite some flaws.
This movie was a straight up dumpster fire. :(
The three others I saw the movie with liked it, though.

I still don't get why they didn't just do a straight up "Attack on Arkham" adaptation.

With Batfleck being the endboss and Joker being the wildcard.

It would have been TREMENDOUSLY better.

Man, what a poor movie. The only thing it has going for it is Margot Robbie, asides from that... Directing, editing, writing, action, everything is poor as fuck!

The movie was great. Not a masterpiece, but great.
The intro was awesome.
I liked how they presented each member's backstory.
The fight scenes weren't bad, but not civil war good.
There were jokes, but fortunately, the movie was not full of jokes, because that would have ruined the movie.
I loved Deadshot and Harley Quinn.
El Diablo was good, but not like Deadshot and Harley.
The villain was meh.
Joker was really good.
The most important thing is that the movie stays really true to the comic books.
On that, I want to make a list of the comic book influences I noticed.
Spoilers:
Deashot's suit, having a daughter, him caring about her and making a deal with Waller to see her is from new 52's suicide squad.
El Diablo doens't uses his powers much, but he's very powerful. He is like this in new 52 suicide squad.
Harley Quinn's main outfit is from the new 52 suicide squad, but her shot with the Joker is inspired by an Alex Ross' drawing.
She uses a baseball bat and she moves like an acrobat, like in the comic books.
Also, she uses the word pudding when she speaks to Joker and generally, she behaves and talks like the comic book Harley. Her origin is true to Mad Love, too.
Rick Flagg is in love with a squad's member in Ostrander's run of suicide squad, but I'm not entirely sure that member is June. Maybe she's her, though.
Killer Croc looks like Kinghtfall's Killer Croc.
Joker is on point, he's just the very ruthless version of Joker and not the more philosophical Joker of the dark knight's version.

Finally watched it yesterday. Some thoughts:

- Waller was fantastic. Viola Davis might be the best casting choice in any DCEU film so far. It's weird how she was the only character in the entire movie that legitimately felt like a convincing villain.
- Deadshot as the emotional anchor was a good choice and they should have played up the contrast between him and El Diablo a bit more.
- Speaking of El Diablo, I really felt like his backstory was rushed as hell when the movie would have benefitted the most from more of it.
- Harley was hit or miss with me, more hit. Had some great moments but a few lines were very jarring. I don't know if she was stuck between accents or whatever but the delivery was very off sometimes.
- Joker was super disappointing. I was one of the few that defended Leto for a long time and was confident that he'd give a great performance even after all that stupid behind the scenes "method acting" stuff came up. I don't know exactly what he was going for but I really wanna see the cut scenes of him.
- The entire Flag-Moone-Waller relationship was convoluted and unconvincing. Waller banking on Flag and Moone being in love felt out-of-character.
- Slipknot's death was fucking hilarious.
- Boomerang was the only one in the troupe that was actually kind of a dick. I liked him. Him dipping from the bar and then coming back (get it?) was such a stupid moment though.
- I have no idea why Katana was there.
- Killer Croc has gotta be the most racist depiction of a black person in recent memory. Holy shit. What was Ayer thinking.
- Enchantress and her brother were a goddamn dumpster fire. Malekith levels of garbage but made even worse in the last act when she talks some shit and, to say it in the words of Korey Coleman, keeps popping and locking. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I hope I never have to see Cara Delevingne act again.
- The "twist" with Waller being their extraction target was lame. It wasn't hinted at in any meaningful manner and then... I dunno? Why even include this entire plot point to begin with? To show how corrupt Waller is? From my understanding they also didn't really have a plan how to deal with Enchantress?

There were 3 scenes in the movie that made me die of laughter and I don't think any of them were intended to be funny:
- As I said Enchantress' weird movements.
- When the special forces dudes want to go down to the flooded metro and Killer Croc tries to get his Bane on with "I live in the underground" and then he goes down the stairs in fucking panther mode.
- When Flag looks out of the window. Super dramatic scene. It's dark. Maybe even raining. And this motherfucker is just eating a drumstick. I couldn't believe my eyes.

It was a pretty bad movie, all things considered. I hope that whoever was responsible for the music gets his hands broken so he can't music ever again. It was so apparent that they were trying to ape Guardians of the Galaxy in this regard but didn't actually have someone competent oversee this. The sad thing is, just like BvS, I think it fails on a fundamental level as a movie because of the script and piss poor editing.

My DCEU ranking currently looks like this:

1. BvS: Ultimate Cut
2. Man of Steel
3. BvS: Theatrical Cut
4. Suicide Squad
