Anyone wanting to watch the BBC News segment on No Man's Sky you can see it by scrubbing back on the BBC News live feed here.

No time stamp unfortunately with how the stream works, just keep working your way backwards until you find it (it was on about half an hour ago).

Cheers for that. Very cool seeing them on the Beeb. It starts at 18:24 btw.

Why do people say this? 1% of planets with life still means that only 1% of the planets you randomly visit will have life on average, even if you visit 100 or 1000. That there are X billions planets with life means nothing because there are 99*X billion planets without life and your chance of hitting one of those is much larger.

Not that this matter at all because in the pre-patch version of the game every planet had some life and I don't think they adjusted it that much in the patch
Yes, but "on average" for such a huge amount is still such a huge amount that even visiting a hundred planets and each one having life wouldn't exactly go against that ratio. That's not big enough of a random sample to disprove that 90-10-1 ratio

So I've just installed the game.
Reading patch notes.

"Servers will be wiped on Sunday and again Monday in the lead up to launch."

Has the servers been already wiped today? It's safe to start now?

Decided to preorder. Downloading now!

Think I'm going to try a one life only game. If I die, I'll just start over. Should make getting to the center that much more amazing.

How did you start downloading? I preordered on PS4 store and I am not seeing any download option or seeing an active download.

I love how I have to pay tax on all my Amazon orders now because they opened a facility in Baltimore, MD. But where's my NMS copy coming from?

New Jersey.

If only 1% of planets have life, the probability of hitting even three planets in a row with life is 0.0001 percent. No.

...and I caved...bought the digital version for PS4...

How do I get the game to start preloading? Was under the impression it should start automatically.

Make sure you actually started the download. People often get confused as PS4 will start downloads automatically *at night*, but if you bought the game today that won't have it ready for the midnight launch.

How you decide whether to preload or not depends if you bought the game on your PS4 or on the website, but just to be sure check your "downloads" section of the Notification tab. If you see it there then obviously it's going even if you don't see it on the main screen yet. If you don't, go to the Library and click on NMS so it starts downloading. It *probably* already is, but doesn't hurt to check.

Was having tremendous performance issues on ps4, but restarted and it's all fine
Loving this game
Niiice. How sexy is the exploration in this game? Does going from planet to planet feel natural? Have you discovered any sexy aliens?

They couldn't have put it back up before the standard editions started shipping :/

LE Wednesday at soonest or Standard tomorrow...

My guess is that this newest stock consists mostly of last minute cancellations or declined cards.

Either way, you've waited 4 years for the game. If you want the LE, what's one more day?

All weekend my copy said it would be shipping soon to arrive on Tuesday.

Got it in the mail a half hour ago, right before I have to leave to go somewhere. :(

He is now Super Saiyan 4. Transcended.

So eager to see the reviews and impressions! might buy if it's all good.

Still wondering why spoilers are such a big thing for a procedural generated game. Must mean there is something awesome like an earthesque-populated planet in the center of the universe/endgame

Those who played so far the ships that you sometimes see in the sky as you explore are people in real time or just pirates?

Excited for this, but had a chuckle at this in the OP: "No Man's Sky is a game focused on Emergent Gameplay. What this means is simple. The game tosses you in and leaves you to your own. The "Gameplay Loop" is yours to decide. "

That's not what emergent gameplay is. Even the snippet you posted from Google gives a different (and accurate) definition. "Choosing the gameplay loop" is not it. I'm not saying this game doesn't have emergent gameplay (I really don't know, I haven't been following it) but the description of "do whatever you want" doesn't mean the gameplay is inherently "emergent." In no game can you "do whatever you want." They all have rules, abstractions, and limitations that make them playable. But some games (especially Will Wright games like SimCity and The Sims) have emergent gameplay and behaviors despite having relatively simple systems.

Enough of the sidetrack, though. Really hoping this game is good :D

Hype levels rising. Watching one of the NeoGAF livestreams from the moon in VR.

Things like this have me more excited about VR, than the actual games. Space exploration (like No Man's Sky), realistic ones that NASA is producing, etc..

Just a starter ship that gets you up and running a little quicker. Streamers have said it maybe saves you an hour or so?

And it looks pretty rad. I like the X-Wing feel it has (engine placement, fuselage), minus the other 2 foils of course.

Just done with my first session! What an atmospheric game. What an amazing experience. Bullet points from the first impressions:

- Had no idea about mostly anything when I started playing, exploring and piecing it together without any full fledged tutorial was amazingly intuitive, while still requiring a keen eye to understand what's what
- Amazing pacing on the first hours of the game
- Had to push myself to not just continue exploring. It was very much "oh, piece of candy. Oh, piece of candy" until I was far away from anywhere
- Intuitive interactions with other species, both intelligent and otherwise
- Controls feel great
- Intuitive inventory system

Still a bit weary of some of the pit falls of a game like this, in that it might suddenly feel like it's repeating itself. While the creatures I've encountered so far have been fun and unique (One I saw was basically a hippopotamus with tiny butterfly wings that was able to fly), but so far so good! The aliens are definitely unique and won't feel repetitive anytime soon.
