Sounds great but wasn't it always advertised as exploration first and foremost? Not sure where space sim came from

A high fidelity go-anywhere space sim has been a dream game of TONS of people for ages. I suppose this looked close enough?

Did the reviews get delayed?

Eurogamer wrote about why their review is delayed: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-08-08-our-no-mans-sky-review-will-be-late-and-heres-why

Maybe it influenced other publications.

Tragically, I'll need some review convincing to buy this one at full price so I'll miss out on the gorgeous PSN avatar preorder bonus

In-game pre-order bonuses are pretty lousy in general but they're even worse when there are no pre-release reviews.

I think its clear we really won't get a good feel for how good or bad this game is or if its worth the price for a few weeks. People are really gonna need to dive into this universe and claw a good chunk of meat off its bones.

Who has ever said that, like at all? I have not even seen the most hardcore fans in here make that proclamation.

Jason, what say you, sir?

ya can't say I have even heard that once. But sometimes its the group you travel in

Oh wow... Think I'm going to wait a week to hear what consensus is. Seems insane to review this game based off less than day of play.
I rarely feel this way but a game like this...ya I would agree

I'm going to be waiting a long time for this one given the rate that reviews will release.

Curious to see Totalbiscuit's impression on it.

You haven't been looking very hard then. People have been extreme on both ends regarding this game. It's either going to be boring and have no gameplay, or it's the ultimate cancer-curing greatest and most ambitious game of all time. The really fanatic people have had some outrageous expectations of what this game really was.

Due to how I am playing it during the livestream is going to be very interesting to see if extended playtimes adjust the way the game feels to me now. Repetitive and so forth, versus more quick jaunts.

I mean, when you ask "what do you do besides walk around and look at shit", you are typically informed of the various space sim elements/activities like crafting, trading, shooting, etc.

Some people might think those elements are a larger part of the experience than they are.

Ah ya ok I get it as well. The way it was written seemed like people were comparing it to deep space sims versus just expecting a large number of sim like activities to do.

Careful what you wish for. Biscuit has a habit for tearing shreds off a game for not having a certain graphical setting something out of the box like NMS

Citations needed. Because I have been heavy in these threads on here, and I have not seen people get nuts to say, "this will end all space sims". Only that this is the space exploration game they were hoping it would be.

Maybe I am reading to much into it. It is twitter afterall.

Yeah, same.

he is going to go in with all antennas twitching for the slightest sign of "horrible PC execution 'cause 'console parity'" thing.

I'd say the most comment expectations tended to be "awesome exploration, weird creatures, interesting secrets, everything else is a fun extra"

That is the concensus I gathered. Which kept my expectations in a healthy check. I just want to explore and chill, and that seems to deliver.
