No Man's Sky - Early Impressions/Reviews-in-progress Thread

Citations needed. Because I have been heavy in these threads on here, and I have not seen people get nuts to say, "this will end all space sims". Only that this is the space exploration game they were hoping it would be.

Maybe I am reading to much into it. It is twitter afterall.

Yeah, same.

Have you been on reddit? The subreddit got out of control around the time of the delay leak, and the same people going crazy on Jason were making outrageous and threatening posts towards anyone that had reasonable expectations of the game being exactly what it is.

I wasn't referring to GAF exclusively, but the entire internet fandom of this game as a whole.

That is the concensus I gathered. Which kept my expectations in a healthy check. I just want to explore and chill, and that seems to deliver.

It's kind of antithesis of what I usually expect from a space game and I think that's why it interests me so much. Instead of being focused on all the stuff most space sims focus on it targets the exact thing the rest seem to lack. Exploration when you land. Elite was one where I did my absolute best to force myself to enjoy rolling around on barren rocks in hope of a bigger rock with a mineral and it just doesn't ever become worthwhile.

As Sean said it's incredibly niche, but it's also one that has never been filled well.

Got to admit, there was likely never a more boring embargo lift before. I added all current stuff to the OP.

Need to return to bed now and will be back in 4 hours updating again.

I also wrote up some impressions if you'll indulge me for a few minutes. It hasn't clicked with me yet, I must admit. Please don't take this as some kind of final assessment - it's just musings really:

It doesn't get much bigger than No Man's Sky – quite literally. Hello Games, the humble British developer behind the likes of Joe Danger, caught the imagination with its retro sci-fi romp from the minute that it was announced – but many pondered whether the slender indie studio could possibly deliver. Three years later and the ten or so person team has answered its sceptics emphatically: the firm's first PlayStation 4 game really is as enormous as promised.

Well then that sheds more light. I am glad I stick to a more selective and tempered group then. Thanks for the 411.

The feeling is mutual. Well said.

The internet is very big. The chances of opening a web site and finding a review of No Man's Sky is close to none.

Well.. where are all the reviews??

man come on dude are you serious did you know that reviewers got copies so late and they have barely had any times to mess with the definitive day 1 patch that actually makes no man's sky no man's sky come on dude you didn't seriously expect scores to drop right at midnight right i'm sure some reviews in progress will trickle in but don't expect any definitive word on no man's sky until friday

This is to be expected. Destruction and Eurogamer, among others, already explained that their reviews would be a bit late due to the nature of the code literally being just updated and finished. I'm honestly not expecting many reviews tonight, and the ones we do see should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah, other mods agree, so when site reviews proper begin dropping, we'll start a new thread. This thread can continue being the one for those early impressions and such that are coming out until we start getting scores

PodcastFips, you got dibs on that new review thread if you'd like.
