It was actually very hard to die before the patch. The patched the difficulty in because people said it looked too easy. Watchagonnado?

In my experience it was actually harder before the patch. Your inventory slots could carry less and the hazard and life support drained faster.

Lol, Did you? I read the whole thing. The title was about how the game wasn't what he was expecting, he thought it was an exploration game where you could aimlessly go where you want and do what you want, but in the end, this is a survival game.

That was a Summary, yes. And the reasons he wasn't expecting that, was because he said he didn't follow the game or interviews much before release.

What am I missing really? The title was about This Wasn't The Game I was Expecting, and the reason was he was expecting a little more than a survival game, maybe more freedom. So as a Summary, I think that sums it up.

Well you left out a of nuance and context. As if to imply the guy didn't know what he was getting himself into. A little unfair. That was only one part of his takeaway, and it's a fair one. I didn't know survical would take that much of a precedence either.

im sure this has been said many times but christ that FOV is absolute garbage. like seriously, even at TV distance it would give me a headache. unacceptable.

Wow, I'm just noticing how truly horrible the FoV is on the PS4 version. Hopefully that gets improved at some point.

Worst I've played on console. Is it some kind of bug??

Yeah I'm considering asking for a refund and getting it on PC

I keep hearing, "It looks amazing considering the size of the universe!" but if each individual thing I'm doing is unpleasant and ugly, then why is it better than there's 18 quadrillion of those unpleasant and ugly things to visit? People are talking about bad framerate and FOV and muddy textures and pop-in and bare-bones physics and each time it's like, "Yes, but there's so MUCH of that to see!"

Are people kind of hoping there's a version of this you can run on a superpowered PC that fixes it all? This thing is getting graded on such a curve...

Tons of positive reviews, and you come away with that ... Ever heard of confirmation bias? The fact is, you decided what you would think about the game before it released, now you are seeking out sources to confirm your beliefs -- all with never having played the game.

You're making a lot of assumptions about a guy who simply wrote a sentence about thinking he'll dislike a game. Everyone has a right to an opinion, no need to jump on someone for disliking something you do. And besides, there's enough gameplay out there to where people can see what the game is all about.

Fair enough, good point.

A couple of hours ago I was hyped out of my mind. Having watched some livestreams over the last hour or so, my excitement has mostly died down. Yes, there's a lot of explore, but most of it looks so dull. Most people seem to love it though, so I guess I'm in the minority here.

Yeah, this game is really not for me.

Don't read anything negative into the avy quote, it's just that this is how I imagine you right now and it was a perfect fit lol.

2 dumb questions:

1) Does the game auto-save? can I quit at any time, or is there somewhere to manually save?

2) Is there a way to teleport to your ship?

Sounds boring just like sterling said. Could be biggest flop for an anticipated game

Yeah, but come on. The game was made by, what, 15 people? Planets and animals are procedurally generated. I was kinda expecting that after visiting a few planets, there wouldn`t be many surprises left.

1. You have to manually save by getting into/out of your ship or saving at waypoints you can find on planets.

2. At certain bases, you can craft and use an item to summon your ship to the base.

I really don't think we should be giving a "free pass", or an exemption on the flaws of the game just because it was made by 15 people....

Streams aren't getting me hyped in the slightest, but the impressions I've read make the game sound at least decent. Still holding out for full reviews and friend impressions before making a final decision.

I'm reading this too. A lot of apologizing already.

Anyway, if it's decent I'll grab on PC. Where the textures won't be muddy and the resolution won't have to be excused away.

Especially given the uberhype around it

After watching some videos and reading these impressions, I'm now certain that the game isn't for me. I may still check it out eventually, but maybe when its discounted.

I hope everyone looking forward to it loves it though. It seems like a special game either way.

so if its made by 15 people the game should get a free pass? Sorry but with that logic than the game shouldn't cost $60 either.

Wait I thought it had a FOV slider? If not there's no way I can play it without getting a headache.
Crap nevermind was told there is no slider. :'(

I didn`t mean it should get a free pass. My point is that people can`t have too high expectations when going into this game.

I just haven't really seen anything that has impressed me so far. It seems like this game would be ok in small bursts, but definitely not worth my $60. Sounds like it'll be a good pick up in 6 months or so when there's more content and a likely cheaper price.

I dunno. Inside was made by a team of similar size. Maybe a few people more. And it is one of the most critically acclaimed games this generation. Size of the team doesn't matter as much as picking a project you can pull off and nailing the execution.

This is kind of where I'm leaning. I love the concept and have been pretty on board since launch but the final product doesn't look quite like something I want to spend $60 on. It looks like the sort of game that in 6 months when it's had several patches + is $30 I'll jump in

Can you travel to other planets whenever you want? And where ever you want?

Seems limited by the level of your ships tech(travel distance), but yes, you can freely just wander space and nearby planets at will. Seems a lot of time is spent powering up by gathering and trading resources...which will excite many but I don't think will keep me engaged long.

Am I missing something, or are those early-impression quotes in the OP not positive?

They sure read like impressions for the NMS a lot of us were expecting.

They're fairly neutral. People don't seem to be blown away by it, but it wasn't deceptively marketed. What was in the marketing is whats in the game, it just happens there isn't a whole lot there unless you really like exploring procedural planets.

I had a feeling this super mega hyped. But i will reserve my judgement until i play it tomorrow. But I regret getting it on ps4. based on the video and impression looks like it's far inferior to the PC version probably.
