I think I'm doing it wrong: Flying around a planet (after landing) shouldn't take launch thrusters right?

Launch thrusters are used to, well, thrust ship off the ground. So you have to use them every time you take off from surface of the planet or moon.

Edit:
I'm using the pre order ship and I'm about to buy antimatter to fuel my hperdrive. What exactly did I miss?

Some tutorial stuff like "Use this to do this to do this" kinda things.

It takes 25% of your fuel on the basic launch thruster to take off from a landed position. So you can land and take off 4 times on each tank. It only takes Plutonium to refuel the launch thrusters though, which seems like the most common isotope.

So I redeemed the pre-order ship and saved right after I had to restart due to a game crash. I'd like to start over again and not redeem the ship the second time around. How do I reset the save without getting a new planet assigned? Do I just delete the save? Is the starting planet somehow linked to my game anyways?

Pretty sure this is incorrect. This isn't an MMO connected to web servers. You can play it offline, it's all procedurally generated. There's no "multiplayer" whatsoever. You can name stuff and have it show up in other people's game (almost like a leaderboard) but there's no matchmaking, you're never in the same instance as another player. Everything is locally generated on your hardware. It's just generated the same for everyone because that's how the algorithm works.

Uh, nothing in what you said is inconsistent with players being in different locations in the same universe. The issue of whether that universe is online is independent of whether that universe is the same for every player, which is what his question was about.

So my advice for people getting started-

Neutral elements are your friend. Emeril, Gold, Nickel. Farm the hell out of that shit early on, because it sells for a lovely profit. You're going to want a few hundred thousand Units to buy even a cheaper Starship and around 50-70 thousand Units for a non-entry level Multi-tool.

Are they actually called factories? The only locked up places I've seen so far are called Operation Centres.

Yes. Operations Centres are collections of buildings with aliens in them or some interface objects. Factories have locked doors, are patrolled by sentinels, and contain really important/high-end schematics and upgrades.

I hope the freighters that they are added later can act as carriers so you can keep multiple smaller ships.

Shiiiiiiiit

Mind blown at the thought alone

I think they need to do this to ensure there's enough to spend money on moving forward.

Damn didn't know about that preorder ship stuff. I was wondering why the game has been so light on details about how to play.

Is there a good guide on all the stuff I missed?

Okay, I was confused because in some streams I saw people taking off without consuming launch thruster fuel.

Good to know :)

When I use a bypass credit on a beam (sorry, don't know the exact term) to mark a knowledge stone/ruin there is a finite amount on each planet right? I'm trying to level up my known words and I've gotten about 90 words on my starter planet alone. I'll eventually run out of these markers on this planet right?

Ah, I see I misread. Just didn't want people to be confused into thinking there's a possibility for multiplayer in this game.

Good question, I want to know this as well, because the items never go from the beams menu.

I wouldn't get hung up on trying to find all the words in a language. There are thousands of words for each race according to Sean. So I would kick it in and move on :)

Definitely not trying to do that, I'm already at the point where I can piece together what a lot of the conversations/questions are with the words I know now.

I'm just wondering if I can 'exhaust' all the ruins/obelisks on a given planet or if they are generated each time I use the bypass credit and are thus infinite.

Most of the reactions I hae read here are very positive, but I fear that I will get bored after some hours. Maybe I will rent it for a few days and I will decide if I choose it over Battlefield 1. Also, I hope they will add the option to build our own civilizations.

Alright! Time for me to head out! Got to drop off a few giant zucchinis from my garden at my parents so my dad can make zucchini bread, pick up some food for my turtle, and be at BestBut at 10 so I can finally get this fucking game!

Ah ok hmmm. Not sure!

I liked that when I met a korvax it got mad because I insisted that I came in peace. Lucky I wasn't able to blast its head off.

About 4 hours of gameplay in now, and still being amazed every minute. My starting planet was a semi desert biom that had a decent amount of vegetation and minor life forms and resources, and by resources I mean over 1000 emeril and 750 iridium, emeril value over 125k and the iridium was about 70k.

Upon leaving my third planet I get a message "enemy ship scan detected" and then I get attacked by group of 5 pirates. I swerve in and out of meteors on my way back to the planet I just left looking for shelter, and they follow! Shields gone, no iron to replenish them, taking crit damage when I see the blip of the outpost I recently discovered. I barely make it inside and wait it out.

Then I made my first light speed jump, and as soon as i start moving about the new system I'm attacked by a new group of pirates and was unable to escape. So I'm pretty sure I was being targeted by groups of pirates based on my cargo value, which is awesome.

My sole complaint is that, Atleast in the systems I have been in so far it's impossible to unload high value cargo. Neither at the kiosk (both space station and outpost) or from pilots coming into the space station, ended up stop trying the pilots coming into the station after the first 20 only wanted low tier resources.

this is going to be the most brutal day of work I can remember. I've been here a half hour and it feels like six or seven weeks so far.

Anyone who feels like they may have screwed up the quests with the preorder ship, definitely don't just delete your save, you should be able to get back on track by just continuing until you acquire antimatter;
scan and look for Factories on nearby planets, bust in and it should have the recipe.

My connection to server screen thing was sporadic- I definitely saw it connected (green) a fair bit of the time but it also just said "connecting" a lot.

Last thing I found before bed was a deep underwater cave. I got to about 30% breath remaining and had to panic swim for the surface, felt like I had barely even seen the first 10% of it. Hopefully there are suit upgrades for underwater exploration...? Though truth be told if any scary creatures are down there I will probably nope the fuck out. People aren't meant to go under the ocean :X

Tell us more about this turtle.

So I just woke up and I'm about to drive to Best Buy to pick it up. Before I go and buy it, how is it? Haven't been able to read impressions since I have been asleep.

Don't think it can be the same because they're designed in such different ways but that was how Driveclub looked on my console. I took it to a Sony repair centre and they said it was a gpu issue.

He's underneath the ground. That's what just about any terrain-based game will look like if you drop through. It has nothing to do with the GPU.

I imagine there's quite a bit of a split in the playerbase on it, but I am in the camp that actually enjoys the crap out of the inventory management aspect. I love this phase of learning the basic recipes and what farmable elements equate to what in-game actions you need them as fuel for. The transfer between suit and ship is great, and having filled up a whole inventory of slots with stacks of mats is a great incentive to leave the surface every so often to clear things out and reorient, whereas I'd otherwise easily get distracted enough to wander aimlessly for hours and lose sight of goals like I do in open-world games a lot. Feels a little like filling your inventory with loot and returning to sell off in an action-RPG.

The struggle atm will also make it more satisfying to get a better suit and ship in terms of cargo space.

My starting planet was a radioactive hellhole with some cool creatures and a lot of gold. I really hope gold is valuable later because I got a ton of it. I cheated and used my pre order ship with the hyperdrive. Is anyone having a beacon glitch where you never reach the beacon? More time gets added the closer I get

Seens there are thousands of words for every language.

So, my starting solar system has a green haze miasma in space so I can't see the space station. Is there a way to ping it or something? I have no icon for its on my hud.

Game crashed twice on the same planet, the first time putting me back quite a bit.

First time that's happened in over 30 planets.

The space station always has a icon, but if you want to see easier maybe try lowering the brightness in settings.

You most likely not taking the planets rotation into account. Distances are very, very far away in this game. Try to get out of the atmosphere, and go down on the planet closer to the point you are trying to reach.
