maybe a dumb question, but is it fun guys?
Not a dumb question; it's the only question that matters.

Simple answer is that if it seems to you like it'll be fun to you, it will. It's really almost to the tee exactly 100% what I imagined so far.

If it doesn't look like it would be fun for you it will probably feel mindnumbingly boring and pointless.

Huh, so is the code that Amazon sends is that the ship or the theme? I really don't want the ship right away.

Also if you did redeem it, if you delete your save is it gone?

So my advice for people getting started-

Neutral elements are your friend. Emeril, Gold, Nickel. Farm the hell out of that shit early on, because it sells for a lovely profit. You're going to want a few hundred thousand Units to buy even a cheaper Starship and around 50-70 thousand Units for a non-entry level Multi-tool.

Making some bank is going to be my first main goal.

I was swept away by just exploring and taking it in last night.

Edit: Ignore me. My question was already asked and answered in the time it took me to write my post.

Is there a way to set a marker or waypoint or something on a planet in case you want to go back to a specific location? I found a crashed ship, almost fully repaired it, just needed to get to a trade station to get 20 zinc and never managed to find it again :(

I figured this was the best place to ask for some information. I'd just like to know if the game has a story or narrative? If so, is it like an RPG type linear story? I'm really interested in it and this is the information me and my friends need before considering a purchase. Normally I'd search the thread but it's already massive. Thanks in advance! :)

I played it so long last night I forgot to eat. And it's all I've been thinking about today at work.

Not many games get me glued to the TV these days but this certainly is one. Has that "just one more thing" aspect to it that ends up dragging your play session on longer and longer lol.

I'm finding it fun right now. Whether that's the same come 30 hours in all depends on the variety of the planets and such. Won't really know that until I plough further on :)

This game will not be for everyone, but I think I will enjoy it, because I like when I can write my own stories in games. NMS seems to be more about exploration and the journey than anything else. I am still interested, just the price tag still makes me a little unsure whether to pick it up now.

One thing I've always wondered about though: Are there any urban structures in NMS? The game is about exploration and feeling the wildlife, but it seems odd to me that there are so many civilizations out there capable of building space stations - yet they have deserted from their home world?

Anyone have a neat planet naming conventions? I was thinking about something simple like astronomers.

Something I saw on Reddit, which I thought was kinda fun.

So with the way people expect to never see another player... they can't say that and also expect to arrive at a true "center" in the galaxy... it would be full of players.

Alright! Time for me to head out! Got to drop off a few giant zucchinis from my garden at my parents so my dad can make zucchini bread, pick up some food for my turtle, and be at BestBut at 10 so I can finally get this fucking game!

The hell...Zucchini bread???

Thanks for the headsup about that preorder ship, everyone, won't be redeeming until much later in the game.

The inventory management is not ad tedious as I was fearing. It's actually fun. I didn't know there was a way to find all the important things on a planet ... guess I'll head back to my starting planet.

This game is what I wanted it to be and more. Amazing.

Man, this game is like Tetris. I could seriously see myself spending forever in the same star system flipping back and forth between planets, grinding up some upgrades. Oh, and yeah, the writing for some... things that happen is pretty damn good. Feels like a pure fun space adventure.

It'll refill if

a) you ever return

b) if someone else visits it.

Planets reset once you leave them.

No they don't, lol.

What game have you been playing man? Any changes you make to planets are saved locally to your PS4. If you mine a big vein of gold, leave, and come back two years later, the gold will still be gone. But if someone else visits the same planet, the gold will be there for them because they don't have the destruction of the gold saved to their HDD.

I wish I knew how to get rid of the unredeemed items pop up. I don't want to use the Alpha Vector ship and I don't know where to navigate to delete it if it's installed.

Edit: Found it.

sean said yesterday if something is gone its gone forever

and i came back to the planet and it was still gone what i mined

Interesting, I am sure they said prior to release planet states weren't persistent.

apols if I was wrong.

As far as moment-to-moment fun, I don't think there's anything to be done if it's just not appealing to you in general. BUT I do think there are some things to consider that can be considered basic tips to improve the fun factor:

  • Consider switching L3 and R3 in your PS4 accessibility options. I don't like Sprint on R3 at all. Just a personal preference though.
  • Boost dashing is super crucial and fun as hell, get the hang of it ASAP.
You want to Melee + Jetpack for a momentum burst. Sprint, then Melee + Jetpack for the biggest of all. You can really cover some distance this way and jump some big chasms. You can maintain momentum as long as you have jetpack charge.

I have seen "slow movement speed" as one of the most oft-cited complaints so far. IMO this is completely solved with this trick and on-foot movement speed doesn't need to be adjusted at all.

  • Your mining laser should never overheat- when your bar turns red, remove your finger from the trigger for a second and then squeeze it again (you don't have to wait for it to "cool back down"). Play with the trigger until you get the rhythm.
  • When you pulse jump, you've effectively "laid in a course" for your current destination/direction, you can take your fingers off all the buttons and access your menus while you cruise. Particularly great for organizing your stacks on the journey between surface and space station.

What the hell is "a $60 game"?

I paid $60 bucks and I'm having fun, so yes it's a "60$ game"?

I played it a couple hours last night and I've been playing it a bit more this morning and I'm just... It's just a randomly generated game like we've seen hundreds of times, only the gameplay isn't exciting and lacks depth. I dunno. I'm really trying. It'd make sense at $20.
