Just as I stopped playing last night I realized I could encounter NPCs in their own ships at a space station and make an offer for their ship. If I buy their ship, what happens to the inventory in mine - is it instantly lost?

Nah you can transfer your old stuff over but this is not automatic and you have to do it yourself.

So this game managed to consume my girlfriend who rarely, RARELY, plays games. After my first few hours with the game, we went out for a bit of shopping. I'm sure you can imagine that during this entire shopping excursion all I could think about was the game. Finally we get home, and I'm ready to sink in and play for the rest of the night. But then I hear, "Can I play?" ring out from behind my head.

I figure, "Fine, it's the novelty of the thing. She'll get bored after about 30 minutes." Flash forward to three hours later, and I'm falling asleep on the couch because I have to work at 6am. Meanwhile, she's still playing. I had to be the one to say, "Hey, let's go to bed. It's getting late." for the first time in our relationship. I think I might need to get a second PS4 lol

Mined aluminum too far I guess to where I found a crack in the world... Fell through into water under the map, swam up under my ship and got in, took off and the moment I lifted off I was miles into space and under attack all in a split second.

Yeah you need to transfer it to the ship before buying it.

So I think reporting hides it, too, which is silly. I just don't think the planet should be named Poop. I can't unhide it, so I can't go back. Something must've happened with the unreliable online services that overwrote what I had named it. The solar systems of this game are kind of cheats. I don't get the reason to do that. Implement a solar system map like in EVE Online and let us see where we are. EVE also has way too many systems to handle, and it works there because some systems carry more importance than others. They start to feel like home. I'm afraid NMS doesn't do that. Feeling lost in space is daunting.

Maybe a silly question, but did you actually upload the planets to the database after discovering it, or did you simply name it?

If you didn't lock it in, someone else can swoop in and upload it before you. I noticed this happened to me last night when I didn't realize I hadn't uploaded my actual systems/planets, just the locations and flora/fauna.

We would welcome you to the couples with two PS4s groups. It's a good place.

I feel like Sean Murray has at times been deliberately vague about the game, and I'm not sure -- having played it now -- that it was necessarily in the interest of not ruining things for gamers. I mean, he seems like a good, well-intentioned guy, but I think the MP thread shows that he could have been clearer in his messaging around the game.

Anyway, to those who are wondering whether the game is worth it, I think it really depends on your nature. I'm not 100% sure I'm keeping it (I'd previously cancelled my preorder, but realized I could try it risk-free)... that said, I enjoyed my first few hours with it on Tuesday.

People who feel compelled to explore every nook and cranny of a game world might hate it, because there's too much to explore, maybe even on a single world. Maybe there's enough purpose for people who need a purpose in a game, but I'm not sure. (And maybe there's enough story, I don't know about that, either). If you enjoy any sort of open/free world game like Minecraft or some of the survival-type games on PC, I would imagine that you'll find some enjoyment in NMS. Otherwise, I'm not really certain.

EDIT: Me? I bought Minecraft for my son on PSN, but I do like on occasion jumping in to a world I created on Vita, just to dig some holes and build a shelter and crap... so the exploration in this kind of feeds that same chill-out desire.

And while I'm not sure about whether I'm going to keep it (we'll see how the new car smell is in a few days), I do know that if I don't, I will undoubtedly return to it sometime in the future... maybe when it's a bit cheaper than $80CDN.

The game will give you the opportunity to transfer your inventory over but you have to do it manually.

You can't name planets without also uploading, do yes :)

They weren't in the same instance (basically a "server"). One player was on the planet during the day, the other at night.

i cant believe it reached that far lmao. I figured immediately time would be the factor why someone wouldnt see someone.

I dont know specifically how the in game time is vs real time but im sure that is factored in to some extent.

If it is intentional, that is fine. I just don't want to think it was not and the game just did a poor job explaining things and I am fumbling about unnecessarily.

Definitely intentional. IMO it's an aspect of game design which is really important and the industry spent the last 12 years trying to move away from it.

so what the hell are Atlas cards and did I fuck up by choosing to explore by myself instead of following the big red orb? It's kind of annoying that at outposts and the one space station I've found there is locked doors and I have no idea how to get the keys.

Game is really great so far.

I've been to four total locations, one being a space station. The only variance I noticed between the planets was two were frozen and the other one was snowy.

My First 4, was a snow/frozen planet at night, a lava like planet, a planet with acid rain, i forget what my 4th is but they all have been pretty varied.

Yeah. I don't get it.

They did say you can't see yourself but others can and you can see them but on launch day I don't expect anything to work properly.

I'll give them the benefit of doubt but the shitflinging is reaching comical levels.
Others could see me, and when I say others I mean these tentacle monsters that chase me back to my ship and just circle above it and around it. I can't escape because I'm out of materials, what do I do now? Just start a new game? Also how do I change to Fahrenheit? Do I have to upgrade my toolkit to do that? The options under options are extremely lacking, not even a subtitles option.

This isn't good man. Are you stuck in a loop or can you leave the thing you're trying to open?

Not good either way!

The 4th time in that spot I avoided the multi-tool upgrade and everything carried on as normal. I haven't tried picking interacting with multi-tool upgrades at any other outposts, but my new sort of issue now is that every time I takeoff in my ship, I launch into space :/

So I'm assuming that not everyone gets a starting world that's irradiated? As someone who didn't pay attention to all the tutorial prompts, that was a bit of a sink or swim moment. I definitely had a couple close calls while getting the basics sorted out. I really like it though. I'm probably not going to be able to play for a couple days and that's going to bother me.

I just had four sentinel starships shoot me down after leaving a planet. I took a gravitino ball and they did not like that one bit.

Can't even remember what inventory I had in my ship but it's gone now!

Wait you could follow it? I mean I chose the "atlas" option, but nothing happened I only got a "maybe you'll meet again in the future" sentence ~_~

Deleted my save to start again to avoid the dlc ship glitch, the starting planet I got looks crazy. Lots of weird looking trees and greenery. Spawned in a big hole in the ground too, like a crater.

I got you fam

I'm sure it's out of context and that he hedges the pure 'yes' statement right after but... Damn!

I found a new ship on my starting planet. It's better than the starter and I'm not sure how it compares to the pre-order one but it looks cool. It's called Jisanmul S87 best I can tell. I can't really look up anything about it but how do you know where a ship you find abandoned ranks among other ships?

no, i don't think so. i read somewhere that someone tried it but they just never got any closer to it.

It's hard to know without the distance of the star and how long it would take to get to it. They may look close but it could take a week. Or maybe it simply can't be done.

Giant Bomb tried it but they didn't fly towards the sun for too long. Could be that the sun is just really far a way.

I hate to quote myself, but I didn't get an answer to my questions some pages back. Does anyone know the answer to this?
From what I understand similar upgrades grant bonuses if they are next to each other, right? Do they actually have to be next to each other or can they be on top of each other too?

Can anyone else connect to the server? Spent the entirety of last night offline for no reason. Figured it was due to an influx of players.

Also my general impressions of my first 5 hours with NMS.

My starter planet was fairly nice, though not as nice as some I've seen. There was a Big planet hovering above the horizon like something straight out of Mass Effect, which made it a sight to behold.

I admit I had a hard time getting used to the inventory systems at first but it quickly becomes second nature. I'd recommend hunting down suit upgrades fast though as you fill up those spaces very fast!

Mining for stuff is actually quite fun, your constantly aware of the Sentinels watching you and when they attack your left running, gunning and hiding behind rocks and in caves. Sometimes they will send the ground (bipedal) Sentinels after you which really ups the ante. Last night there were 2 Dog type Sentinels that ran like Cheetah's and hit like a Rhinoceros.

Lastly I'd like to praise the space combat and flight controls while in space. They feel really good, sometimes they felt comparable to something like War Thunder but I think that maybe because you lead your target when in combat (I don't know I was tired but it felt awesome).
One thing I didn't like though, was the flight controls when on a planet. There's an invisible force stopping you from flying low and if you go too high you auto go out the atmosphere. The controls just don't feel right in this situation and it gets irritating fast.

Pros-
• Mining is fun and exciting.

• Sentinels add an extra challenge in the fight to survive which I found thrilling.

• planets are exciting to explore, theres a LOT of hidden things to find which keeps it fresh.

• Combat and space flight feels good and the starmap with that music feels godly.

• Buying, Selling and Upgrading.

• Lore and story based stuff is fairly interesting and I can't wait to find out about other alien species other than the Gek.

Cons-

• Planet based flight needs to be reworked.

• I feel inventory spaces need a little boost. Especially the amount of spaces in your ship.

• Space Stations while cool are a tad repetitive.

• I've only had one crash but with reports that others are having a ton i hope this gets sorted.

All in all I'm impressed with what HG has created, it's what I wanted, expected and even more. HG made a galaxy sized promise and delivered in spectacular fashion! I wish them the best of luck and can't wait to see what they have in store for us in the future.

GG Hello Games.

This question might be better asked here.

Just to make one thing clear, if I land on a planet that someone else has named or see creatures that someone else has named, I will see the name that person gave to them right? I won't get to re-name creatures someone else has already discovered or planets right? (you can name planets yea? solar systems?)

Finally I have the game, in a box, in my bag. Hopefully I'll get to play later tonight. Very intrigued.

It all seems to have gone a bit toxic on here regarding the game though - I'll draw my own conclusions.

Correct, yes.
