The fact that small inventory objects like chips and alien artifacts can't be stacked is infuriating. And also upgrades that take over one spot.

Why the fuck do we still get this limited inventory bullshit in 2016?

Quick question about the Atlas path.

I didn't pick it up until later in the game. I got to a space station and downloaded my DLC ship. Then I read about the Atlas path and was lucky enough to find my starting point again. Am I Ok?

Boy this inventory management is terrible, to the point where I wonder if anyone at Hello Games has played an RPG.

- Items are split into what you carry on your person and what you store on your ship, but you can only trade with merchants with the items you have on your person. You have to back out of the trade menu, shuffle your stuff around, then go back in and wait for all the slow-ass text to appear. Except some merchants (those computer terminals on space stations, I think) actually do let you trade straight from your ship's inventory. Why not all of them?

- There's no way to make two items swap places with eachother between your suit and ship inventories; you need a free inventory slot to move items from one to the other. And dropping an item means losing it forever.

- Using the stack function only works within the window you're on. You can't combine the Plutonium in your suit inventory with the Plutonium in your ship inventory. UNLESS you use the button that moves it to the other inventory, which makes it automatically stack if there's anything to stack with.

- EQUIPMENT UPGRADES TAKE UP INVENTORY SLOTS! Like, holy shit, way to completely devalue upgrades. My inventory slots are as precious as Gold in this game; being slightly more resistant to acid rain is absolutely laughable in comparison.

I'm pretty much riding the inventory limit at all times, and have been since about twenty minutes after the start of the game. Obviously I'll eventually be able to buy a better ship with more slots, but even then I can't see myself ever wanting to waste a slot on some reload speed upgrade or whatever when I need to carry half a dozen different types of fuel just to keep all my stuff loaded and fueled, then all the stuff I need to sell to make progress.

Yup. Played for about 7-8 hours yesterday and so far love the game, but constantly having to deal with inventory shit because the green/"special" items don't stack along with dealing with the back and forth between your exosuit and ship is really infuriating. I don't think it should be unlimited or anything, at the same time though it's waaaay too limited right now. Especially since with playing all day I found exactly ONE suit slot upgrade -_-. I dunno that it's feasible for them to just raise slots across the board especially post-launch, but they definitely need to make the green items stackable at least, and maybe either make other things stack higher, or maybe give us an option to access the global market at any time (maybe via craftable item?) so we can at least dump stuff that way etc.

Edit: Unrelated, but I got a Multi-tool that already had an upgrade in it that made your mining laser do more damage in combat....but it doesn't do any damage in combat. Is that a separate upgrade I need to get and this one just didn't have it already or what? lol.

Also do we have a clear understanding on what the colored circles all mean around the stats on your ship/multi-tool?

Anyone getting lots of crashing? I am and it's quite annoying. Every 20 mins or so. Only happened since I delete my save and started again to avoid the DLC ship bug.

If you're not mining... How are you constantly fueling your ship/suit/multi-tool then?
I've had absolutely no problem so far mining enough resources to keep systems charged without falling afoul of sentinels. I don't try to overmine any one area, keep moving and mine enough from more dispersed areas. If I seem to be attracting sentinel attention, I begin to mosey.

How's the general consensus?

Is it still catching your interest or has it gotten boring/repetitive?

Might be a good game but walkthrough breakers and crashes are kinda hiding this. We'll know when they patch I guess.

I have a 100% crash blocking me to reach my first annomality

Atlas Interface
Anyone following the paths to the Atlas Interfaces? I made it to the first one, then they set up a waypoint to the next one that is about 8 jumps away. Is it worth chasing these down? They seem to be moving away from the center of the universe.

Don't give up, I read that scanning for factories with the beacons can give it to you. I will try that as well.

well to be honest I don't even remember if I actually did get the blueprints. I have the recipe for warp cells but I'm not sure about warp drive blueprints.

and there's no way to check what blueprints you have if your ship already has a warp drive. I dont want to endlessly search for a blueprint I may or may not have

So I want to continue on the Atlas path. I built my Hyperdrive and then warped wherever the gold line led to on the galactic map. Am I on the right track?

So what was the deal with the multiplayer thing that blew up yesterday? Is there actually no multiplayer, or was it a server/instance issue? I don't really care much for it, I expect to be alone for all of my journey, but a ton of people are freaking out it seems.

Fair enough I guess.

Does path selection in the beginning of the game happen with the red orb? I don't remember when I chose, but do remember a red orb.

This game is really something special. These skyboxes are beyond what I could've hoped. My last 6-7 planets have been real gems.

If anyone finds the Ferraro systems, let me know! There are 6 of them now! : )

It is crazy how little I have done for the universe. I have claimed 17 planets and that is only about 0.0000000000009% of all the planets out there...and that took me 6 hours.

We should keep a running total of how many planets and systems GAF members here have taken so we can keep a cumulative number of how much the GAF Empire has taken over the Universe.

I don't really see the problem with this. What's the functionality that's missing?

Yeah, but have you seen the cost to make most upgrades? They're extremely inexpensive. I have several swimming tech upgrades, some acid and some heat tech. If I'm ever on a hot planet, I'll just make one of those and throw it away when I don't need it. I think that's a point you might've overlooked.

Actually, I've been playing for a long time, and it's all beginning to come together. There's a certain elegance to the system, I feel. It is frustrating not being able to make Atlas Pass v1 because you miss 10 iron, and the space station doesn't sell it, so you stand around waiting for traders that might. No one had, so I just dropped down on the nearest planet and it took three seconds. That aside, I'm not up to 17 exosuit slots and 23 ship slots. I'm restrictive of what upgrades I have, but I use about 20-30% of my space for upgrades. I always have certain elements on me, and another set in my ship, and then I gather whatever I need for what I'm doing. I'm getting good at feeling what I need. This isn't a hoarder game, and I appreciate that. I can't stash all elements I come across in a chest, and I'm actually coming to like it. I feel the game would just be kind of ruined if you could, because you'd just be able to always fix everything. I'm currently looking out for copper, and I have encountered it earlier in the game, but now I have to find it again, which isn't really a bad thing.

It's one of those things, kind of like in EVE Online, where you can never spend all your money on one ship. In EVE you always need to be able to afford the ship you're flying, and in NMS, you can't haul everything around. I like that.

Further, inv space is really opening up for me, now. I think it won't really be the issue it is now for much longer. I like the way it is, because it gives me a certain sense of accomplishment when I make something. It's not just like in Minecraft where I have five large chests, and I just have to filter through to find the relevant material.

still rocking the starter 7 slot multi tool because the game hates me and I can't find a new one. is there somewhere I should be looking?

All of mine have been given to me by Aliens at outpost stations and space stations. I got a 8 slot one within the first hour of playing the game, and I was given a 10 slot one last night. I was also offered another one, but the Alien was giving it to me out of fear, so I didn't take it.

Talk to all of the aliens. Make friends with them and eventually you get one. If you don't want to do that, you could just buy a new one. Some of the space stations and outposts have them on the wall for purchase. Just keep a look out. It's likely that there's at least one for sale in your system. They usually cost about 50-60K, from what I've seen at least.

So I want to continue on the Atlas path. I built my Hyperdrive and then warped wherever the gold line led to on the galactic map. Am I on the right track?

Yeah, pretty much. As you progress through the game, make sure you scan the system upon your arrival. One of them will end up having something that will lead you to an Atlas Station. You'll be given another option to choose your path, and from there it'll be quite clear. I found it in the 4th or 5th system I visited.

I don't see why you have to mine on dangerous planets in the first place.

Think ahead, the planet tells you if the sentinels are dangerous as soon as you land. Why would you then get out and mine anyway instead of finding a better one?

You don't need to sidestep anything. Just find good places to mine.

When your system has average and above Sent life in them, that's a little difficult. Plus that is still sidestepping planets. It's not that they are overly dangerous. It's that they are annoying and stalk you for doing a central compenent of the game.

It's all part of the fun!

Couple star systems in and haven't found a way to create or find those atlas pass/keys. Did I miss a blueprint for this somehow? I remember there was that locked case near your broken ship when you start but I just created my hyperdrive and dipped out.

I'm finding the upgrade system confusing now I'm going deeper into it.

If something has a red outline does that mean the upgrade/technology isn't active?

Edit: aha, or does the colour just indicate which systems are linked and providing buffs?

Did they completely remove those Atlas beacons/upload points from the game? I assume so since all your discoveries are uploaded through the options menu.

Yes. Upgrades are cheap and designed to be trashed when you no longer need them. Sean mentioned this on his stream.

I have a 100% crash blocking me to reach my first annomality

Crashes everytime at the same spot? I'm getting a crash every 20 mins or so, just went for dinner, left it looking at a tree and came back and it had crashed back to XMB. Hope it's patched soon.

I just had a really good session after I had my first slightly boring one a few hours ago.

Flew back to a previously-discovered planet to explore it a bit more and just kept wandering into the horizon and ended up finding cool thing after cool thing.

Then I found these adorable little bouncing shrimp things and that was a real highlight.

Cool, thanks for the info. Knowing me I probably walked right past one.

Pretty sure the patch notes state they removed rotation because playtesters would get disorientated.
That sucks.

Also, trying to Google an answer has led to the scary discovery that many people think that day and night are caused by the Earth rotating around the sun. Sean help us all.

On the Giantbomb quick look they thought the moon had no gravity and chickens were mammals.

Trying one more time. I refuse to leave my first planet until I find this thing. :P
Anyone have any advice on how to find one last species? I already scanned a flying creature, don't have water on my planet, and spent about 3 hours walking around caves and I haven't found anything in them so far. I feel like I'm missing something obvious.
