Most likely on the other side of the planet. Fly to it through space.

In terms of hyperdrives: I have a feeling HG will issue a patch that fixes the recipe. Fortunately new ships have the hyperdrive, but not having the recipe is a bit concerning for me.

I did that, got attacked by hostiles and blew them up. Reentered the planet and still couldn't make it to the beacon.

So uh, don't park you ship near Heredium....

I parked next to it last night and as I was trying to fly away, the Heredium block trapped my ship (twice) and I had to clear the huge block out out so I could get away from it. This was after I had to repair my ship (twice). And when I did eventually take off, my ship basically warped out of the planet and back into space in a flash.

The good news from this is that I got a lot of Heredium, which I was in need of, so it was a trade off...I guess.

Weird.

The ship blasting off into space happened to me last night, and it was on a planet loaded with those heredium chunks. I thought there was some special way to blast off like that I did accidentally.

Did you fly around to the other side of the planet? I had one that looked like it was doing that but I jumped out to orbit, phase jumped away at an angle then back so I could see where the thing was actually pointing at on the surface.

The Utopian planet I never want to leave. So lush and full of resources:

It's surrounded by beauty everywhere with clear lakes and high mountain tops. As I sit high in the mountains looking in the stars:

This game man...

Nice pics!

That creature looks so cool.

I am still on my starting planet, lol. No water, harsh heat, lots of gorgeous purple/green caves/caverns everywhere though.

Day 3 icespide, I still have not left yet, lol.

what's wrong with the preorder ship? I'm using it, no problems.

There's a bit of a glitch some people are running into. I wasn't able to get or make or use the hyperdrive. I searched and searched the system I was in and could not get the blueprint or materials needed.

Fortunately I had only put in about 3 hours.

Another issue is a weird one, waypoints disappear whenever you return back to/reload the game. Even "story" ones.

Noticed it earlier, but then yesterday while doing the "look for antimatter recipe" I had the waypoint, got distracted doing other things and found more waypoints, had to quit to make dinner (saved), returned and no waypoints....and the game handed me the antimatter recipe as I walked to get on the ship.

Got a bugged distress beacon last night. As I fly closer to it, the time to reach it goes down, but then starts to increase, so I can never reach it.
on a planet or in space?

I had this happen on a planet once, I just flew back out to orbit and reapproached and it showed up as expected.

In space, seems like the distress signals don't actually bring you to a specific point so much as alert you to some situation in the area.
Hmm, the one time i tried to approach one of those, that's what happened to me. And then i got wrecked by hostiles. Assumed it was a trap and have been avoiding them like the plauge since then...
yeah seems like they can definitely be traps!

Also you are for sure legit more likely to be attack when you are hauling a valuable load of cargo. Nice touch.
Traveling without your ship definitely needs some sort of boost or ease of travel. I mean I love exploring on foot but it takes forever to get anywhere, and using 25% of my fuel just to take a 5 second flight seems wasteful. I already have one sprint upgrade installed on my suit to make it easier, but it still could use improvement.
Are you using the melee+jetpack move, or what I call boost dashing, to get around? It cuts that travel time. I'll easily go toward something that's 5min or less away on foot, though for more than that I hop in and relocate my ship.

Also, don't worry about "using 25% of your fuel" just for whatever, you'll be collecting Plutonium regularly, it's not precious at all. You're meant to use it. And I'm pretty sure you'll be able to take off more efficiently with tech later on.

Base building could be great for farming/trading. You could choose to build in places with an intense number of resources, put a trading station in your base and then easily farm. I'd also give yourself the option to own multiple ships and store at your base if you build a dock.

A lot of people are saying there should be a buggy, but I'd add an underwater submersible to that as well. :) Easier and faster traversal by land and sea. OH! Or what if your ship could transform into those things?

God damn it, I bet that's what happened to me and why I still haven't gotten the Atlas Pass blueprint. I had a crash right after I left the first Atlas station, and apparently you're supposed to have a WP to where you get the Atlas pass after leaving it.

Is there any other way to get an Atlas Pass?

Still haven't seen a single planet I'd call legitimately "lush," but last night I found my first that is really pretty. It's super green and at night turns deep purple. There are these narrow, super tall stone arches dotting the surface every so often. It's lovely.

Anyone else start getting hard crashes yesterday? I had two and my friend said he had 7 (he plays all day).

Yes, only started yesterday, was fine the days before then not a single crash.

Right now I've had a few crashes just trying to start up the game.

I don't mind using the ship for short jaunts now I have it up and running, but everywhere I have visited has had plutonium to power my engines, some places had loads of it, other barren planets still had clumps every now and then. Are you finding a lack of fuel at all?

This did worry my as I thought I maybe got lucky with a plentiful starter planet/s.

I haven't ever felt like I lacked fuel, but going back to the ship, taking off, flying a few seconds, then landing feels like such a waste of time and resources, even if the resource is plentiful. The lack of a medium between a 2 minute run on foot and a 2 second trip in the ship is what I'm sad about, mostly.

Although I have been on a planet or two that seemed super barren and I didn't find any plutonium nearby where I landed/explored. Don't really stay long in those planets, though.

where do you buy ships?

Hold square on any ship you see it will ask you if you want to buy from the other alien or buy his ship or sell to them.

What's people's best idea for making money?

I feel I need a bigger ship before venturing further.

I have seen discovering all of the animals or "Records" for a planet pay out as much as 500,000 units. It's usually just scanning ~10 animals. Get to an easy going planet and grind away. Expanding your storage will allow you to carry more trade'able items I am getting stuff from crates that is worth ~10,000 - 20,000 units

Really wish they would unlock the flying so you could actually crash into the ground. Maybe somebody will mod it on PC.

Reading the GAF thread is killing me, too much on at the moment with the Olympics and this game is a serious time killer. Not sure if NMS is messing about with my clock as I am sure I have popped it on for a quick run and it is suddenly 3 hours later.

You've upgraded your suit so many times from one planet? Did you just keep finding suit upgrades or are you allowed to use them more than once?

The number of suit upgrades seems to be limitless. Find the orange beam things and select 'shelter'. Always takes me to a drop pod and I have like 20+ slots now. Still on starter planet.

I got the distress beacon through an observatory on a planet, and the beacon marker was located on said planet. I got into my shop and tried to fly to it but never reached it. I went into space and tried to see if I could pinpoint where it was when I got attacked by hostiles. After talking care of them I reenteredd the planet but still no luck.

I entered up leaving and going somewhere else. Maybe I'll go back and see if I can get to it.

Streams are meh for me. All I see is menu's or gathering resources with bad FOV.

Watching isn't the same as playing.

Watching: I am just walking around aimlessly shooting resources and looking at menus.

Playing: I am walking around purposefully gathering resources to build this particular piece of kit I have in mind, so that I can travel to space, or warp to bigger, better star systems, or take part in space battles. For now I have to manage menus and gather materials but in the next couple of hours I'll be seeing new awesome systems, checking out space battles, and journeying through the cosmos.

Hmmm.

Have you met
Nada and Polo
yet?

You'll get it from their
floating space anomaly ship
, but I'm actually not sure if you are guided to them at all if you chose the Atlas path. I just don't know for sure cause I'm not on the Atlas path.

After almost four additional hours I left the first system. The one with toxic rain was a gold mine of stuff. Second system looks much more hostile, but one of the planets is full of resources to sell. Now to fill up the warp meter and then move beyond.

Pardon me if this is a really dumb question, but the lack of inventory slots is really frustrating to me, both on the ship and in the exosuit. What's the quickest way to gain more slots?

Also question I had: can you not "discover" trading posts? I've found two so far but there hasn't been a thing to activate it and discover it, which is weird. I want to be able to mark it as a waypoint, but I just end up naming the first waypoint I find near it "Near Trading Post" for my own reference.

I've tried the melee boost but I can't seem to do it properly. I don't gain any speed, may have to watch a video of it or something.

And yeah, I'm not too worried about fuel consumption but my brain is saying "You just used 1/4 of your fuel to fly for two seconds. Think about global warming you jerk!" :(

That was my exact experience too. I looked at reddit, but that subreddit is nothing more than people posting screenshots and no real info.

Yeah Ive made it my personal quest to find a lush planet. Have you guys been to a red/blue/green starsystem yet?

Exploring barren planets is still fun but it really does feel great when you finally find a colorful planet with an abundance of flora and fauna. I just found one that looks gorgeous and has rare resources so I'll probably stick around here for a while.

Something that indicates it's a 2 minute distance away walking speed takes me about 40 seconds of actual time while boost dashing (melee + jetpack or sprint, then melee + jetpack).

If you're using this technique and still think you're too slow on foot I understand, but want to make sure you're at least doing this. It is invaluable, totally become a key part of NMS for.

Yeah I haven't seen anything remotely close, I can already feel the sensation of what it would be like to find one. It's actually some pretty potent non-narrative world-building... or, universe-building, I guess.

I'd say in the first few hours don't mine except for stuff you immediately need and sell everything as soon as you get to a trade point. The upgrades come and it becomes less of an issue. Concentrate on exploring for the first few systems.

No, I haven't. According to everything I read, you should get a waypoint to the anomaly after you depart from the first Atlas station you visit. I've visited two of them now and never got a waypoint to an anomaly.

I hope to god I don't have to restart the game.

I realize now as I write this that spoilers get revealed when you quote someone, though reading it I suppose it isn't a huge deal. For my part, I am on the Atlas path and I have not received an AtlasPass yet even though I'm a few steps into it at this point.

My starter planet was completely barren, as in no life or fauna, just rocks upon rocks. I thought there would be at least a little life on every planet based on those early "leaks"? Not complaining at all - it was awesome. :D

Find a planet with an expensive resource like gold or graviton balls that has relaxed sentinels. There's probably some other trick but this is what I've been doing.

I've been loading up on iron and plutonium and creating/selling bypass chips as the resources are always plentiful.

It's definitely worth getting the hang of. It's incredibly noticeable in practice, you won't have any doubt if you've done it right. Just need to keep an eye on your Jetpack gauge (hnnnng just remembered I have a jetpack boost tech to install once I finish my current tasks)

Wellllll if it makes you feel any better, these ships are not using anything remotely close to fossil fuels to fly!

Plutonium may not be the safest substance in the world by any stretch, but it doesn't produce greenhouse gas.

So can anyone help with what I asked about before with quests. Without a quest log how can I keep track of what marker goes with what quest. It seems to only have one quest tracked at a time.

Was playing today and ran into a solar system with only 1 planet and two moons. The main planet and one moon were incredible beautiful and abundant with life and the atmosphere and the location of the moon were such that the entire sky was filled by this brilliant red and blue planet. God, I just sat there astounded at the beauty of what Hello Games have created.

Anyone not playing this game and just whinging about it in those threads... I just feel so sorry for them because whilst I'm enjoying this and seeing these things they're writing angry messages about a game they - by and large - haven't even played. Even then, their reasons (such as the current online debacle) are clearly just reaching to dislike it.

You won't find it like that. Best bet is to find a crashed ship and swap for it. Fixed my no hyperdrive issue and got all the quests after.

A crashed ship is how I got stuck without a hyperdrive in the first place :( If I could find my old ship again I'd have no problem but the moon is too big and the ship too small

Does anybody know what kind of mining laser upgrades I need in order to holes quickly in terrain? Like making my cave in a way?

I remember seeing that in some of the early gameplay footage but so far, I'm only able to still just destroy mines/deposits, not actual land.
