More I play more I think that this game is a victim of its own scale. Imagine this game with only several star systems, where you would mine and explore on much smaller place, but with more diversity...

I have been playing since launch day (around 12 hours so far). I have been to only 4 star systems and visited maybe 16 planets. My suit as a lot more open slots than in the beginning (man theses upgrades are starting to cost me some money!).

Sometimes, I stay on one planet for 20 minutes, others for 3 hours. Surprisingly for me, I am not tired of it even tough it's very repetitive and you see the same types of fauna and vegetation on almost every single planet.

Best one so far has been one with a lot of water. I really enjoyed swimming with peaceful creatures and trying to get out of the way of some shark type agressive one.

In my opinion, aside from the same locations on planet time after time, I am having fun and that's all that matters.

That's what I was using.
However the upgrade for terrain destruction has the beam logo and is also in the mining category and also displays white adjacency bonuses with the mining beam.

If it really is just for grenades that's OK too, but everything points toward a beam upgrade. I use grenades to make hidey hole shelters during extreme storms.

Edit - One of these.
I guess it could be just for faster mining.
Like these?

I guess I could be wrong, I believe that speeds up mining like, a block of heredium or copper.

I don't think the beam can be used for voxel geometry terrain at all, not sure though

Just foot and ship but if you go too far on foot there are outposts you can call your ship to. It needs a bypass chip though (super easy to craft)

Gotcha.

I wonder if some of the complaints people have about exploration would be alleviated if traversal of the planets was more fun. I keep thinking back to the boring planets in the first Mass Effect game which were still fun to drive around on just because the Mako was a wonky piece of junk that was fun to play around in.

Found save game in %appdata% folder. New planet is super nice and im not spawning in the air. Cool.
Thanks for the suggestion Hawk, I believe it was.

Traversal is much more fun if you use the jetpack jump. Sprint(you don't have to hold it down, just click it once), then hit the melee button and the jetpack button quickly. It's so much better and faster.

I almost wish that this game was announced as PS4 console exclusive with a PC version giving a bit of a nebulous release date.

I say this not because I want PC gamers to get shafted, but because I feel bad for PC gamers that are having to suffer through all of the performance issues. I have no doubt that if Hello Games were able to put more time into the PC version, instead of having to release it within days of the console release, it'd have launched in better shape. I think their small team has bit off more than it can chew, and now they're being worked to the bone to fix the game.

I've worked on a lot of games, and post launch is supposed to be where you can sigh that breath of relief, take a break, get your bearings and recover, and then get to work on the next project, or any scheduled updates. Hell, we're currently in the midst of that down time, and have been for a few weeks now, so I feel really sorry for the 14 Hello Games employees that are no doubt still working long hours to improve the quality of the game across both platforms, as well as the planned update 2.

I hate that excited PC gamers are having to deal with shit like this, because I know if given more time, they'd be able to iron this stuff out. I've never worked on a team that was less than 100 people, so I can't imagine how stressed the Hello Games guys might be right now, when they should be celebrating.

I honest to god find it fun as hell.

It's night and day if you're using the melee boost dash or not so I'll just ask to make sure you are. If you still think it's not fun at all I understand, just making sure.

An update with something like a drone, rover vehicle, and underwater exploration vehicle would be awesome.

I wish I just have performance issues. Game locks up PC on a i7 4790K 32GB RAM and Titan X Win 10. Game is garbage for me.

I'll give that a shot. Not saying the planets are boring, haven't had nearly enough time to play just yet to make that kind of judgement. More that some of my friends are complaining about it. Don't think they're aware of the jetpack jump thing though.

The thing that gets me though is I see some of the terrain in screenshots where there's huge hills with drops or drops into smaller canyon type things and I keep thinking it'd be fun to drive off.

So last night I read about the hyperdrive problem with the bonus ship. I had already swapped to using it and went to the second system. At that point, I started looking for ships with hyperdrives before I dumped the dlc ship and this doesn't work because the game knows I haven't found the blueprint yet so no ships have the hyperdrive. Today I decided to just jump back to the first system and buy any ship I could hoping that would trigger the game to tell me to find the blueprint (which the NMS website later confirms is exactly what should happen).

Forward 4 hours of game time later and still no blueprint. I've cleared out every single 'map' marker there is on all the planets in my first system and have been just going to random camps trying to get this mission to trigger somehow. I'm now at the point where I am going to just put the game away and be done with it but before I do, I wanted to check to see if anyone was in this spot and figured a way out of it.

Uh. When am I going to find a warp drive upgrade or some way to travel faster? I've been through quite a few planets and maybe twelve systems and still nothing.

I've already left my starter system (after discovering the 4 planets) and I'm onto the second planet in my new system. Should I slow my pace down a little?

So... I see most of my friend list refunded the game already.

Its that bad? I feel the visuals are a bit shitty for the performance. Also even at 100 FOV it seems so narrow.

Not unless you want to... you are not intended to get super attached to any particular system, it's a big universe.

So I found this planet with these gravitino balls all over the fielded areas. They're worth 30,000 each, and there's a space station a 3 second pulse jump away. Can make $1 mill each round trip.

So got into the first Space anomaly, whats the best choice
Atlas or seek a black hole
?

I've chosen black hole each time, however each warp didn't seem to bring me any closer to the centre. So you pick Atlas then tell me what happens lol

Is there a way to have the left or right joystick set to roll in the PC version? I basically want Battlefield jet controls but I don't think it'll let me. So annoying. I really don't like the defaults.

Got 100 percent on my starter planet last night. Had to shoot down an annoying bird thingy to do it though. It was the only time I had to use my boltcaster on the planet. That's what I like about this game. The ability to spend hours exploring and not have to worry about some 13 year old little shit shooting me out of nowhere and tea-bagging my dead body. It's just a relaxing time sink.

I came across an
exosuit upgrade
thing, but I can't find any new ones anymore. Is there any way or indication on how to find more of these things?

Every drop pod I've come across on a planet has been an upgrade for that so I imagine that's what to look for. My starter planet had a ton of them. I'd suggest just flying around low as you can make them out pretty clearly. I've also read you can find them behind locked doors in space stations. I've also had luck choosing "search for Shelter" option when using bypass chips on transmission beams. A few times they've lead me to those.

How are you supposed to take advantage of synergistic upgrades (bonus stats for placing adjacent slots) for the jetpack when the original node is stuck at the top left corner of the exosuit and blocked off by other immovable slots?

I don't know. Maybe the jetpack's upgrade is just flat and not meant to be buffed? I haven't seen any exosuit screen shot that shows the jetpack in a place other than the one it starts in.

Still haven't left my starter planet!

my man! Yeah I had a great time on my first planet as well. Didn't leave it until day 3.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there an easy way to find/fast travel to locations you have discovered on a planet?

Not that I've seen. I think it's meant to be "throw away" if that makes sense? I was bummed about not being able to find my way back to my initial go-to airport with shop, but I quickly realized that a billion others will pop up eventually, so not getting attached to a particular place has saved my sanity.

kill them...then scan

Hah. Never even thought of that! That'll make 100% certain planets a lot easier.

switched the sprint/zoom and scanning between the sticks

now my R3 is the scanner and L3 does the sprint/zoom

I want to do this but don't want to have to keep switching it back for other games :\ Really wish we could have controller profiles for specific games on PS4. Oh well.

Great game, I'm loving it the more I play but for fucks sake please fix the life support timer and please let me have more inventory, that's the only two things ruining this game for me

Possible the game could come to Xbox One? Saw it on Reddit
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/tech/gaming/537409/No-Mans-Sky-Xbox-One-release-steam-pc-PS4

However whether the game is a PS4 exclusive or whether this was a timed exclusive that might one day come to Xbox One.

So when we spoke to Hello Games Sean Murray, the man responsible for creating No Man's Sky, we asked him and received a rather coy response for what we assumed was a very straightforward question.

In response Murray told us he wasn't sure what he was "actually allowed to say" at the time, noting that he needed to be "very specific with my words".

Before going any further though, Sony's rep stepped in to move the interview along, explaining that at this time there was nothing more to add.

Feels good to have a ship strong enough now to hold it's own in space fights.

4 pirates warped in and tried to jack me right as I was about to enter a planet. Took them all out before they could take any life off my ship. Only lost my shield.

Thread moves fast, Anyone have some input?

I guess I'm a bad pilot. This just happened. And it is so high that I can't jetpack back to it. Guess it's time to load the last save restore point. lol

Can upgrade your existing multi-tool, or do you have to buy increasingly upgraded versions?

Like your ship, MT slots are hard-coded to the one you bought (afaik). The only way to go from a 9-slot MT to a 12-slot MT is to buy a 12-slot MT. What you actually stick in the MT though is for you to decide. Also, once you start getting accustomed to aligning upgrades for synergy bonuses, you realize that how the slots on the MT are laid out also makes a huge difference.
