That XV review thread is gonna be a fun time, I can already tell.

If NMS review thread could get crazy after 4 years of talk and hype, 10 years is gonna be insane :P

Back on topic, if this delay is real (I can definitely see it happening) , it be more time for me playing that glorious SMTIV:A

Just read the news.

Good.

After all, I'm patient......

I curse you and defy you stars! Why Why!

Bro... if FFXV gets hit with that 2017 hammer....

Wtf.. The moment you try to allow yourself to think positively about this god damned game they find another way to kick you in the nuts.

I bet it's true, as someone else said though wtf is another two months going to add to its development? The Neo patch seems most likely..

9/30 or 11/28. I'm all in on this potential train wreck now. It's not even a roller coaster at this point. It's a drug induced Trackmania track.

Optimization, it would have had a patch if it hits the 30th.

Instead it should have a neo mode on the disk.

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

I'm just noticing that we're getting an early start on ridiculous revelations about prior entries of the series that will be used to defend the latest entry.

Review: "The combat is bad"

Response: "Well, to be fair, most FFs play like shit."

I can see it now. It's nonsense. It's hilarious!

Better than an unfinished product, fingers crossed.....

It'll be "unfinished" either way. That's why there's a season pass with four pieces of story content! Modern AAA gaming is never finished. 3 years and 60 bucks just isn't enough anymore. Chasing "finished" is a pipe dream.

Any idea what happened to the Nomura version of the game? Or how that game differed from the current FF15?

I mean Tabata himself detailed a bunch of stuff they cut aside from obvious character changes. And Nomura had talked about wanting to do multiple games in his "Versus Epic" that's since been forgotten.

I'll humour you. I don't think the combat will be a big point of contention even if the general consensus is that it's bad. For big RPGs, it isn't as big of a talking point for reviews.

Besides, what I said was hyperbole and it's too late to take it back. My second sentence in that post was the main thing I wanted to get at.

I do wonder at times how do you even condense a story that was meant to have sequels in one game.. I mean you could've had a whole Game Centered around the invasion but idk how people would've reacted to never leaving Insommia.

You're so sure it will review poorly? Press response to the demos and much of the footage over the last year or two has been generally positive. Maybe the game will be a trainwreck, but this seems like premature schadenfreude.

Not forgotten around here, that's for sure.

It would be prefect for me if it was true. Some of the other game releases should change as well, so the year can end like this:

Aug: Deus Ex
Sep: WoFF
Oct: TLG
Nov: FFXV

Perfect. Please just separate WoFF and TLG.

Play Dragon Quest VII instead. Having two huge Square Enix RPGs launching within two weeks of each other made zero sense.

Yeah but like players can pretend that stuff doesn't exist or something.

I'm losing track of all of the XVsplanations.

Probably for the best. I didn't like the sound of that with or without Nomura at the helm.

Fair enough. Although I do think that second sentence claim is still highly debatable.

No, I honestly expect it to review solidly, but I also expect it to have some obvious problems that some people will cobble together very weak arguments to explain.

How it reviews is irrelevant, honestly. FFXIII reviewed well, but that meta score doesn't illustrate it's place in the eyes of the fandom or the series legacy at all. However it reviews, I think the game itself could be a very huge point of contention as people grapple with its shortcomings.

I would honestly say most FF games play like shit (OK maybe not shit). At the very least, the series isn't a paragon of outstanding combat like your post hints at.
I wouldn't say they play like shit but most are just holding down X (or A) to attack. Occasionally a boss comes which may require more input and thought, but that's it. And I'm a huge FF fan.

man, this thread...
just wtf

Delay threads and review threads are NeoGAFs true treasures.

Edit: on that note, the review thread for this game will be legendary.

Gotcha -- I agree that reviews are largely irrelevant to the place the game eventually finds in the FF Pantheon, and regardless of how polished XV is, it represents a big enough set of changes that it's going to inspire long-standing and heated debate.

But I do think in the eventuality of mostly positive reviews that the review thread itself won't be that heated. Even long-term hype train riders don't seem to be expecting anything above high 80s. Not potential Uncharted 3 situation I don't think.

Aren't delays a good thing? Gives the developers more time to work on their game. I'd rather they fine tune issues rather than rush it out early.

I'm neutral on this but you must compare it to some other games to be able to say that.

It's just a simple curiosity

Are we just talking overall favourite games?

Ōkami, Pokémon HGSS, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, FFVII, Mega Man Battle Network: Blue Version, Persona 4. Probably in that order?

I don't really care about combat as much as everyone else. None of those games are amazing at that component.

EDIT: Totally forgot about Mega Man. I would say that game has the best combat of any game I've played. Heck, the entire Battle Network series from 3 on.

Fine by me, I was busy those first few weeks post launch anyway. As others have said, I waited 10 years, I can wait 8 more weeks.

If this does get delayed I'd honestly be more upset at the prospect of not having something to tide me over the temptation of P5 spoilers. Because otherwise I wouldn't mind waiting a couple extra months for it /shrug

I've been expecting 84-85 the whole time never in my mind have I gone higher. Idk if the passion we show at times makes people believe we are expecting the second coming of Christ. Or that it's going to be the Goat but members do make the mistake when they see us talk.

That's fine.

I was only planning on getting this and Battlefield for the rest of the year. Turns out I might be only getting Battlefield. Wait and see

I like playing games with great combat, I've just never expected it from a Final Fantasy. It's always serviceable at best and occasionally stimulating on a tactical level.

See Xenosaga 3. It was 3 games condensed into 1.
