No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I am at a point in this game where I am starting to feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. I love the concept and landing on and leaving planets is something I will always remember it for. But I don't know if I can keep warping to system after system with nothing to do but grind for materials and learn words. It would help a bit if I could get some good planets, but they are getting worse and far too samey. I am seeing nothing like the promotional footage.

Essentially luck of the draw, I guess. I had seen a single lake and nothing greater (as far as liquid) in my first 10 worlds, then I came across a world that was 90% ocean. As for the promo footage specifically, the 2nd to last world I was on looked like that. I named it New Greenland so hopefully somebody someday will see the name and check it out. Flowers/grass everywhere, many types of trees (mossy, palm trees, spiky palms, etc), lots of wildlife. It had everything except an ocean/lake/river. I have yet to come across an actual river, but I doubt those were programmed in.

Oh? When I just took off with my ship, instead of being lifted to a height of like ~20m as usual, I was boosted all the way up to the edge of the atmosphere. Surely, that's a glitch? I can't figure out how to do it again.

Found a apparantly booring moon with lots of copper. Did a scan and found it had underground treasures, so I blew my way into the underground caves and what did I find? Wortex Cubes everywhere. One 20 min run yelded 2,4 milion credits.

So the lesson I learned and I share with all you explorers out there today is: Never underestimate a planet/moon, just because you do not find much of interest on the ground. You never know what you might find underground...
I'd like to do that but I still don't understand how to 'laser beam' the terrain. My Multi-Tool is equipped but I'm not carving any terrain.

How to?

This has happened to me quite a few times. Seems to be a glitch.

So what's the consensus on what's better, cannons or beams for ship weapons? I've only gotten in a few dogfights but I barely lived through them.

Also does upgrading your pulse thrusters actually help you maneuver better?

The ending spolier stuff made me think of the three paths thing.
I want to ask something that has a spoilery answer without getting spoiled (which is why I don't want to ask in the spoiler thread) or spoiling for others. So please mark the answer in tags if you answer this.

Since there is only one save and such, is the path choice "permanent" and lock you out of the others forever (until you delete your save file)? Or is it more like you can follow one, get to the ending of that and then either just explore the other paths or get some sort of "new game plus" where you can make different choices? I feel like I can't progress the story because I'm scared of missing out on other things the game has to offer. Is there a reason to worry or can I drop it and just enjoy? :P

Played about 10 hours. Your a spaceman, mine/gather resources, explore planets, sell and buy resources/items, battle, upgrade.

Game is legit good.

Oh fuck, the crashed ship didn't have it installed but I got it from its debris lol.

Not that long at all once you find the right Transmission spot. Just ping a whole bunch of sites and stick with ones close by. In a separate incident, I kept running into a glitch where a site located on my planet was 15-18 minutes away by ship and would never get closer. I had to leave the planet, fly in space and then re-enter the planet to get close to it. So watch out for those. But it a lot of cases you get crash sites that are only 1-5 minutes away by ship. I jumped two spots in a matter of 5-10 minutes, including travel. Had to dump some trade after that and then another 5-10 to do the next one.

Make sure you have plenty of Thaumium on you. Always needed to recharge the Pulse Engine it seems and that resource was the one planet-side that is hardest for me to pick up.

This particular bug is the absolute worst!

After getting to my first Atlas station, I just have one question:
Can I alternate paths, like go into a random free roam planet, then use the second map (R1) for my next jump, then get back on Atlas path?
Or will I get lost and should just stick to one map?

so, i think i just finished the atlas path?

SPOILERS
it took 10 atlas stones from me and created a new star (which is not shown)? then it pointed me to a black hole, which i used, but nothing else. is that it? really?not even a milestone or a trophy?

I took a chance and looked. That is all I am grinding to the center for?

I don't think I want to even bother. I would feel like I was forcing myself, which is when I know it's time to put a game down. Or at the very least just take a break from it.

Can someone comment on the suggestion that different star types have different planets? I saw one say "teeming with life" and I kinda don't believe it.

Am I crazy, or are the astronomical distances in this game faked? Early in the game, I set a waypoint that I never went to. Since then, I've been doing some testing to see just how fast I could progress through the critical path of getting to the center of the galaxy. I spent a full hour with an inventory full of Warp Cells doing literally nothing but jumping my max distance (8-10 systems each time). I progressed around 6000 light years in that time.

So then I decided I wanted to finally check out that waypoint I set earlier in the game. So I decide to use the waypoint mode in the galactic map to get there the fastest route. I'm jumping my way there and noticing that my distance to galactic center is actually going down when I should be getting further away.

What's up with this? Am I misinterpreting these distance readings? Is the whole thing just faked numbers and really it's just based on how many systems you've jumped through? Someone please help me understand this.

Reposting... anyone have thoughts on this? Further testing shows that I'm still getting "closer" to the center when I should be moving away from it.

I didn't realise for ages you can toggle between shoot and beam mode with the multi-tool (pressing triangle on ps4). I just thought my top wasn't good enough yet.

I can't be the only one who doesn't give a flying fuck about the end or center and just plays...
It would just be a bonus for me, if I ever reach it.
lol this is like Euro Truck Sim 2 feeling for me. So relaxing.

For what's its worth I hadn't seen jungle planets in ages then warped to two red star systems and both had them. Then I warped back to a yellow star system and found purple class materials so who knows haha.

Ugh that fov is too much

It can get a little weird in the ship but I'm glad I have the option to play around with it, the default FoV was too low for my liking.

Some nice chilly places from my journey so far.

After about 10 hours and switching from mouse and keyboard to a controller, I'm really enjoying this game a lot. The ship in particular handles so much better with the controller.

Guys, I found an amazing trade station with a ton of glowing gem eggs outside of it. I've been farming them and selling them, but then suddenly I can't pick up the glowing gem eggs anymore. Is this a bug or is this something they have put in to stop you farming? Maybe it's related to them respawning and you can't pick the same one up twice despite it showing it's there? Anyone else seen this or had this problem?

It was relaxing for me as well until after about 20 hours. Now it is about like watching paint dry or playing in the dirt with a stick. I am definitely down for trying out some of the updated content, though. That should help.

Second hard crash in 30 minutes. Never happened before tonight.

Think I might switch back to Fallout 4 for a bit until they release another patch.

Yes, I'm switching to a Bethesda game to avoid crashing. Lol

Still loving the game. Just don't want constant crashes to sour my experience.

Yeah, same here. I mean, I'd like to get there, but when is not important.
I did accidentally manage to avoid that spoiler a few hours back, so I'm still in the dark, but personally I hope that reaching it kinda gives a New Game +, basically catapulting me somewhere and asking me to reach the new center.

Yeah, for me after trying to remove a steel door panel for ages.
The game desperately needs some basic tutorials at the start.

If you're grinding for some definitive end point that seems like a really poor and unrewarding way to play the game IMO.

Anyways the crashes are happening far more frequently for me than they did before and every time it just kills my will to play. I might be stepping away from it until they patch it.

It disappears, right? Yeah it is a bug. You can't pick up the same one twice.

I believe that's a waypoint you set inadvertently by scanning a building. When you look at it the hexagon shape and blue background will disappear leaving only the white dot and circle which can be easy to miss. Only way to remove it (AFAIK) is to go to the building you waypointed and walk across the spot to make it go away.

Ah, that makes sense.

I posted this in the other photo thread but this is pretty funny.

Apparently, this is how your ship looks in space when you use freecam

Yeah, same thing happened when I was on foot. I was at a monolith and a sentinel started to attack me. The game zoomed out and the sentinel was just attacking the air lol. So I guess there are no player models.

No, I was playing for exploration. But that only takes it so far with such a limited game loop and so little to discover. I feel now as if I am warping to system after system in order to keep getting fuel and life support, with little variation in worlds. Some greater goal at this point would be welcome is all.

And yes, the hard locks and blue screen crashes are also annoying. I don't really want that to keep happening to my PS4.

I live in the UK and preordered this game but what are my chances of getting a refund if I phone Sony support tomorrow because of the crashes the game is doing?

I hope in an update they include more environment variety like dense forests, wetlands, rivers and streams. Maybe I just haven't come across any?

Rare but populated frontier towns would be cool too. I hope they plan to release a steady flow of content updates going forward.

Going to pass on this until they put base building in the game (maybe). Looks like the Forever Alone Space Explorer Simulator. There's hardly any sentient beings you can actually speak to.
